How to unlock the Friendly Goliath achievement in Neverwinter - Definitive Guide
You get the first 3 lore from each of the first 3 chapters in the Maze Engine campaign.
The 2nd and 3rd Chapters have a problem currently--if you aren't careful and/or in a group, someone else can activate the character's dialog that continues the Chapter and you won't get credit for the lore, AND have to redo that chapter again!! Make sure you are the one to activate the lore dialog choices, which are WHITE not dark orange. If you don't then the lore might not count for you and you'll have to replay the mission!
In general, the lore found in Chapters requires you to have found ALL the previous lore.
To see which lore you have or don't have, go here: , "Quests", "Journal", "Lore", "Featured Quest: Maze Engine". They will be listed alphabetically starting with "Lans".
Here are the lore locations:
1. "Lans Thuliaga - Warrior" : Chapter 1, after defeating Lans Thuliaga for the first time, right behind him near the edge are two emblems you can activate.
2. "Lans Thuliaga - Lord's Alliance" : Remember to make sure it counts for you! Chapter 2, after finishing the boss in Fiery Pit - Cultist Assault, talk to Lucas Shaneway III and choose the WHITE dialog options first!
3. "Lans Thuliaga - Hero" : Chapter 3, there will be a place a little while into the Chapter where you have to enter a door and then talk to Lans himself to continue the Chapter; in this dialog, choose the WHITE options!
After getting the first 3 Lore's, Sergeant Knox will have a piece of white dialog about Lans when you talk to him; it's recommended that you go to the Dread Ring to talk to Knox as the next lore is right nearby!
4. "Lans Thuliaga - Survivor" : Speak to Sergeant Knox in Dread Ring or Protector's Enclave and select the WHITE dialog about Lans Thuliaga.
5. "Lans Thuliaga - Unlucky" : Speak to Makos in the Dread Ring or at the start of Chapter 4 for this lore. To find Makus in the Dread Ring, look just to the right of the Gauntlet Forging area near the entrance to Dread Ring. Makus is standing at a table facing the Gauntlet Forge. See screenshot:
6. "Lans Thuliaga - Slave" : Go to Whispering Caverns, and find a sword floating right above a rock 'sky-bridge' in the NE corner area of the map. These are the coordinates of the location: 1798, 1011. To get here easily, take ALL the right turn pathways leaving the spawn location until you come out at the bridge. See screenshot of bridge(sword is just above target on screen):
7. "Lans Thuliaga - Baphomet's Pawn" : Chapter 9, after the boss battle, examine the dagger Lans dropped. Coordinates: 422, 225. It's right next to the little pond there. See screenshot:
8. Final Lore : Chapter 11, talk to Lans Thuliaga after defeating him!
Thanks
Lans is our misunderstood antagonist, you'll see what I mean. You will have multiple encounters with Lans across the campaign. Learning about him will range from dropped lore, speaking with him and others, and fighting him. If you miss a lore entry, you won't be able to do the subsequent entries. The entire Lans Thuliaga questline must be done in chronological order.
Chapter 1: Lore - Warrior: 3483, 435 (red banner behind the fire after the boss fight)
Chapter 2: Lore - Lords' Alliance: Once you save Lucas Shaneway III at the end of the chapter; speak with him and select the 2nd speech option that reads: "Do you know about a warrior named Lans Thuliaga?"
Chapter 3: Lore - Hero: You will speak with Lans as part of the questline. Once you do, choose the 2nd speech option which reads "Is this is a trick? You just fought me in the Underdark". Lans protests your claim and you should again choose the 2nd speech option; "Linu, can you tell if Lans is telling the truth?". The next screen you'll get the speech option "Before we go Lans, why did you travel to the Underdark with the Order of the Gauntlet?" Lans will give new dialogue here, then select "No, I wasn't. Very well, you're with us, Lans. Let's go deeper." The mission will continue from here.
After Ch. 3: Lore - Survivor: Talk to Sergeant Knox in Protector's Enclave or Dread Ring. There should be a "Do you know about a man named Lans Thuliaga?" speech option. Knox will elaborate that Lans was captured by Drow. Knox will mention he was with Makos.
Chapter 4: Lore - Unlucky: Talk to Makos in the Dread Ring or at the start of Chapter 4 in Mantol-Derith, if you still need to complete the campaign mission. There should be a "Do you know anything about a man named Lans Thuliaga?" speech option. Makos will elaborate about Lans capture and escape; and will mention Mind Flayers which leads you to the Whispering Caverns.
After Ch. 4: Lore - Slave: Examine the Rusted Greatsword on the high bridge in the Crucible area of the Whispering Caverns at coordinates: 1799, 1013. If you find yourself near the coordinates with a stone pillar in your way...look up!
Chapter 9: Lore - Baphomet's Pawn: Shortly after you dispatch 7 groups of demons, you'll encounter our friend (or foe) Lans at coordinates 437, 154. During the cutscene, Lans will escape by jumping off a ledge. Return to this ledge and examine the Dropped Dagger at coordinates: 417, 223.
Chapter 11: After you defeat Lans again you'll have the option to speak with him. Do so and your final conversation should look like this. If you've missed something you will only see the speech option that reads "Take your time and rest, Lans. You'll be better one day."
If you've gotten all the lore entries to this point then you should see an orange text speech option that reads, "The Lans I know wasn't a monster. All he wanted to do was save a group of slaves in the Underdark. You were being used by Baphomet...it wasn't your fault."
Lans will protest your claim and you'll see the next speech option that reads, "I've gone to great lengths to find out everything I could about you, Lans. You weren't a bad person...and you can still come back."
Lans will begin to remember the life he previously had and he'll thank you for your deeds. You final speech option will read, "That's good, Lans. Take your time and recover."
Once you exit the conversation the achievement and title will unlock.
1. Examine the piece of clothing thrown by Lance after the battle with him in Chapter 1. (there will be a red bandage lying around, you need to interact with it)
2. Talk about Lance with Lucas Shaneway III at the end of Chapter 2.
3. Talk to Lance in Chapter 3.
4. Talk to Sergeant Knox about Lance (in the Protectorate or the Dread Ring).
5. Talk to Makos about Lance (in Chapter 4 or the Ring of Terror).
6. Examine the two-handed sword sticking out of the ground on the 2nd tier on the bridge in the Whispering Caves, near the duergar forges (see screenshot).
7. Examine the blade thrown by Lance after the battle with him in Chapter 9.
8. Talk to Lance in Chapter 11.
Do everything in order without skipping anything. If you missed something, you can replay the chapters in the dialogue with the gnome Bruenor.
If this is not done immediately, then the sword will be inactive. For this reason, you will not be able to fulfill further conditions to receive this trophy and will have to replay the chapter.
