Therefore this achievement is unobtainable. I will leave this solution up in case a miracle happens and the servers come back at some point in the future.
To maximize the chances of getting a shorthanded goal it is best to take control of a forward to defend the top of your zone when they are in your end. Try to poke check the opposing player when he is near the blue line and you could get a breakaway which can lead to a goal.

It might be good to mention that EA is scheduled to turn off the online servers for this game on Feb 8th 2011. So anyone wanting this achievement needs to hurry up and get it! Here's a link to EA saying they are turning it off for various games: http://www.ea.com/2/service-updates

In a ranked match, slash someone to go on the Penalty kill. Once on the penalty kill, try to score. Having a friend helps with this too. Just make sure to score when you are on the Penalty Kill, NOT the Power Play.
Note: This is now un-obtainable since the server for this game have been closed.
