It's easier to do this with NHL BE A PRO. I did mine with Zdeno Chara.
Stay in good position, don't be out there when goals are scored against your team (+/- is a key defensemen stat), kill any penalties (don't get any yourself), and get an assist or goal (or have a positive +/-).

You can win this achievement in Be A Pro Mode, Just Start a Career as a Defenseman and in your first Game of the Season you need to achieve an A Overall rating. If you don't achieve it your best off starting a new career as it will only unlock this achievement on your average overall ranking for that career.
