How to unlock the Faceoff King achievement in NHL 10 - Definitive Guide
This all depends on how well, your opponent plays, reacts and how high his attribute "Faceoffs" is for the player he is using.
As of writing, I still havent got this yet, but here are a couple things to show how you win a faceoff:
1. Pick a good team. It's likely that a good team will have a center with a high faceoff attribute. Picking a team from the AHL or Great Britain, won't help you. But that doesn't mean it's impossible.
2. Don't take a penalty. It's also very likely that your center is the only person on your team with a high faceoff attribute, if he takes a penalty you are forced to use another player for, and his attibute may be low.
3. Remember that right stick controls the direction you want to move the puck in. You can still move it forwards (instead of towards a defenseman) if you win the faceoff, the game still counts this as your win.
Note: If your attribute is high enough (87+) and your opponents is low enough (less than 79), you may not have to move the stick at all to win.
4. The minimum number of faceoffs you have to play is 3 (one for each period). Meaning that you will HAVE to win a minimum of 3 faceoffs to have a chance with this achievement. Playing more faceoffs will only decrease your chances of getting it, so if your not that confident about winning faceoffs try not to do the following:
4a: Don't shoot at the goalie, 'cause he may freeze the puck.
4b: Dump the puck carefully, as it may go for icing or out the rink.
4c: Watch your offside warnings!
4d: Don't take a penalty. Or get into a fight.
4e: Don't concede or score a goal.
4f: Make sure someone has possession of the puck, as if everybody leaves it alone, the referee will stop and restart play.
It's also impossible to control what your opponent will do...remember that. Unless your boosting (this guide was written in mind that you aren't boosting).
That's pretty much it. If your not sure about if your on the road to get this achievement, divide the number of faceoffs you won by 4. If the number is equal or higher than your opponents, you should get it at the end.

This achievement can no longer be obtained due to the Recent Server closures of NHL 10. If you have yet to start this game, keep in mind the 1000 gamerscore is now out of reach.
This is easiet with a boosting partner. All we did was use a really high rated team against a low rated team. We used the Montreal Canadians Historic team against Poland. You don't even have to touch the joystick and you should win every faceoff.

No longer possible due to server closure.
You have to win 80% of the faceoffs in an Online Versus Play ranked match. This is easily boosted since you can create a ranked match with someone on your friend list. Refer to the boosting thread to find a boosting partner.
You can get this on while boosting other ranked achievements, just make sure you will all of the faceoffs - you can loose a few, just make sure you have over 80% at the stats screen. You win the faceoff by going down on the :RS: when the ref moves his arm. This will unlock at the end of the match. See 'Out of the box' on how to boost a ranked match.
