In Be a Pro Mode, create your own player (don't select NHL Pro), and after you are drafted, you will need to perform well enough in the preseason games to earn a spot in the big league lineup. You can drop the skill level down to Rookie in order to have a better chance at improving your ratings.

To keep your Position score high, pay attention to where you're skating. Watch for the arrows on screen that tell you where you should be if you find yourself out of position. The less those arrows appear, the higher your score will tend to be. (i.e. if you're a defenceman, don't keep joining the rush.

To keep your Team Play score high, make successful passes, don't take penalties, clear the zone on the penalty kill, block shots, make sure you don't turn the puck over when you deke, and come off the ice when you are called for a line change. All this will add up to a good rating.

And naturally, for a good Stats rating, set up your teammates or score goals. Defensemen will also get rating boosts for keeping their +/- high. (You get a + for being on the ice when an even-strength or shorthanded goal is scored by your team, and a - for being on the ice when the opposing team does the same.)

You'll probably stay up if you keep around a B overall rating, but it depends on the team you're with. If your club has a lot of skilled players at your position, you might have to up the ante a little.

Create a pro, then complete the pre-draft games, then stay on your team until the regular season begins. the achievement should pop up right as you finish the preseason.
