How to unlock the PP Powerhouse achievement in NHL 12 - Definitive Guide

The best way to do this is to sim your games and then intervene when your team is on the power play. This is because the other team will rarely take penalties when you actually play the game, but in the sim it happens pretty often.

First, make sure that you are on your team's PP line. This may not happen in your first season, although I was lucky enough to make the PP line in Nashville during my rookie season.

Next, turn all of the sliders all the way in your favor so the goals will come easy (same as the other NHL guides).

Lastly, just go to your calendar, sim the game, and then pay attention to when your team gets on the powerplay. Hit A to intervene and then score a goal. Pay attention to what type of penalty it is. If it's just a minor (most common), I would suggest waiting until later in the game and hoping for a double minor or a major. I was lucky enough to have the other team commit a 5 minute major a few times.

Do this for 30 goals in 2 different seasons and the achievement is yours.

Also, I set the periods to 4 minutes each for this achievement so I could get through the games quicker. You could also quit out after the goal and the rest of the game will be simmed.

Yes, you need to get 30 in 2 separate seasons.

So you will need at least 60 career PP goals before this pops.

You should select the game, hit sim, then the scoreboard should show and start simulating. You can hit A to intervene at any point.

You don't start the game before simming, you sim the game and then play when the penalty occurs.

Does the Achievement pop after the season or after you get the 60th goal in the 2nd year?

It pops after the 60th goal.

This doesn't work that well, been trying it but every time I intervene I'm on the bench (despite being the top line center on the team and on the #1 pp unit) and the penalty is usually done by the time I get on the ice.

You're doing it wrong then. There are two different modes you can choose when you start Be a Pro. You can do the more realistic approach (where you actually have to sit on the bench), or the classic approach where you can basically play the whole game.

Just hit B to get put on the ice and they will change lines. If for whatever reason it doesn't work for you, I'd suggest playing the game under the other setting. You're either misinterpreting the guide or it doesn't work as well using the other mode (I haven't tried it). All the achievements are much easier in the other mode, so I'd suggest switching to that.

I've got 2 30+ PP goal seasons now. Achievement didn't pop. Any ideas?

If your player got any PP goals while simming, they will not count but will still show under your career statistics. Make sure you have 30 goals that you yourself actually scored, not just the number listed in your stats. I made sure to get about 35-40 so I knew I had 30+ the first season.

If you know that isn't it, then I'm not sure what the issue you're experiencing is.

That's a good point Doc I hadn't thought of that. It is possible that the my player may have scored PP goals while the computer simmed parts of games or seasons. I think will start from scratch and keep a meticulous record of my PP goals scored by me personally.

On my second season and still not on the powerplay line? I was put on the PK as soon as I started my career, I got over a 1000 points in my rookie season and I'm still not on the PP :/

You NEED to be on the Power Play line and you usually get placed on your team Power Play line in your second season when your overall ability is near 74. Your team will have a one man or two man advantage against the opposing team for at least 2 minutes. The opposing team will try to clear the puck into your side of the ice. When your team has the puck, press for your AI teammates to pass the puck to you and score. Once you score, the Power Play is over. Rinse and repeat each time your team in on a power play and you should easily rack up over 30 power play goals in a season. Do this one more season and the trophy is yours. If you have the game settings in your favor as suggested in the road map, then scoring will be no problem.

*This trophy does appear to be glitched for some, but thanks to Stephleref for finding a way around the glitch, and you WILL want to make an extra save of your BAP to use as a way around the glitch.*

Create a NEW BAP just for this trophy, but change the BAP settings to CLASSIC and time limit to 20 minute periods. Have your BAP be a Defender. Adjust the sliders in your favor as suggested in the roadmap, and play the first two preseason games. Score at least 4 goals and quit the game. Simulate the rest of the preseason. You will get told by the GM you have made the 3rd line. Before the first game view the NHL lines for your team. Scroll with to Power Play(PP) lines, and see if you have made the Power Play line. DO NOT play any games, instead SIM each game, and press to intervene when your team is on a PP. Score a power play goal, and quit. Rinse and repeat 29 more times for this season and do it all over again next season for 30 times, and the trophy will unlock right after your 30th shorthanded goal in your second season, but this seems to be glitched because the tracker does not acknowledge the fact that your first season has ended.

The way around the glitch is after you get your 30th PP goal in your first season, for the remaining games simulate games to get sent to the AHL. Boosts will unlock and you will get a 1 next to the "Score 30+ PP goals in 2 seasons in a single be a pro career" Legends Milestones.

Next season play well enough in the preason to make the NHL team. Then after your 30th PP goal in your second season, the trophy will unlock.

The hardest part about this achievement is getting onto the powerplay unit. My advice is to play as Center. It seems hardest to get on the PP unit as a LW but if you have a good first season, you should be moved to the PP during the off season. Once you are on the powerplay unit, slowly simulate each game until your team goes on the powerplay. Then you can quickly intervene, score 1 PP goal and quit out. You must score 30+ goals in each season for 2 seasons. If you want to know how many you have, check you career performance. Simulated goals do not count.

See Superstar achievement description for scoring tips.

Only those power play goals that you score against your pros in person, without taking into account match simulations, count. To win the trophy, you need to score 30 goals in two different seasons while your team is outnumbered. Many players have a bug in the game - it does not count towards the end of the season. This can be checked in the main menu “Pros” - “Goals for Legends”: after your first season with 30 goals scored in the power play, a one should appear opposite the corresponding item. If it says “zero”, it means you have caught a bug and you need to finish the season in a lower league - skip all the matches after the 40th game of the season and you are guaranteed to get a relegation. Then play well in the preseason, return to the NHL, and score another 30 goals the next season to win the trophy. The trophy drops immediately in the match, no need to wait for the end of the season. Good luck!
This trophy is best combined with another long-lasting trophy - "One Great Career".
