How to unlock the Top Prospect achievement in NHL 12 - Definitive Guide

This achievement can be a little tricky, so I'm going to make a step by step guide.

1. First of all you must choose Be a pro and Start in the CHL (I selected the Vancouver Giants of the WHL). Also, you must choose the right age for your player, 17. I originally chose 18 and I wasn't eligible for the prospects game. I then tried age 17 and it allowed me, this has been confirmed on the EA forums (authentic to the actual CHL prospect game). 16 year olds are ineligible. An easy way to check if your player is eligible is to scroll through the weeks until you reach Jan 18. If you see the prospects game, its just a matter of being invited.

2. To get invited, I turned all my human sliders up and all the CPU sliders down. I then played the first few minutes (until I had 3 - 4 points) of 10 games, and then I quit (the rest of the game simmed). I also simmed a few games in between the games I played in because there are a total of 45 games before the Prospects game. The bottom line here is just to establish your player as one of the top players of the year so you get invited.

3. Once you have played and/or simmed your way to the Prospects game, if you've been invited, it will ask you to stop and play. You must play the game from start to finish to get the achievement, your performance doesn't matter so you can just leave it running if you want, or get into fights so you can sim to your next shift and take 5+ minutes off the clock.

The achievement should unlock as soon as the game ends.

If you are still having any trouble getting your achievement leave a comment or PM me and I'll try and help as best I can.

Would I get this if I am playing in the OHL, I am English and don't really understand the lower league set-up over there.

Thanks alot! I'm 17 and have 48 points from 14 games, so I should probably get picked!

So since their are a total of 45 games before the prospect game, how many full games do you recommend playing? I currently have fully played 16 games and have a total of 61 points.
I'm tired of playing all these games and I want to start simming, but I don't want to do this all over again if I dont make the top prospect game.

Well, as I said, when I did it, I would sim 2 or 3 games, then play part of a game, ensuring I get some points, and then quit out of the game so it would sim the rest of it. Seeing as you have already played 16 full games, I would think you'd make it. I'm not sure if it docks you if you sim too many in a row, thats why I spread out the games I played in. If you are at all worried, just change the sliders and pad your stats to increase the point gap between you and the other top players. Its always better to err on the side of caution, as I had to restart several times because I didn't make it.

Yes, you can chose any team in any of the three leagues. The CHL, the Canadian Hockey League, consists of 3 separate major junior leagues, the Ontario Hockey League, the Western Hockey League and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The top prospects game is held for the top draft eligible players from all three leagues, so you have to be a specific age, and also one of the best players, not just in the league you selected to play in, but one of the best players out of all three leagues. Hope this clears it up and good luck.

The only thing I can think of is how much you play. I think the amount of games you manually play in has a large part in whether or not you get invited. You may want to try playing upwards of 15 + games making sure to manually score at least 4 points in each game. How many games did you play in, in the seasons where you weren't invited?

For this achievement, you will have to play as your Pro in Be A Pro for a few games at least. Basically what I did to qualify for the game was play about the first 15 games of the season, then simmed to Top Prospects game in Mid-January. I had 24 goals and 22 assists when I started simming. All 3 of my grades every game were A's. When I reached the game, I was 3rd line on my own team and was on the 3rd line for the Top Prospects team. Play through the game and the achievement will unlock.

This game is available in your second season (though some have had it appear in their first season), if you choose start your BAP career in the CHL and at age 16. You should be on at least the first line of your team to qualify along with averaging a grade of an A or better. Also, your GM of your CHL team will update you throughout the season of your draft status. You need to have a draft status of early 4th round or better.

Using the following method below by Stephleref, will help you reach the prospect game in early January.

Simulate the first season or play the first few games to unlock Happy 20th EA SPORTS™!. In the 2nd season for every game, score a goal and quit. (This is the fastest way I know of to get a good grade every game, and a good grade is an A or better.) By mid-January, you are on the top line and can play in the top prospects game.

When starting Be A Pro, select start in the CHL. You are going to need to play some games to try and stay in the top 5 - 10 in scoring before the Top Prospects game which is on January 18th. All you have to do is play through the entire game to get the achievement, win or lose.
NOTE: People seem to have issues getting into this game. I would recommend you play 4 out of every 6 games. But when I say play, I just mean score 2 goals or so and then quit.

In CHL Pro mode, select a player 17 years old. There will be a CHL rookies' match in mid-January, we agree to take part in it. The match must be played to the end without simulation, the trophy will drop after the final siren.
