How to unlock the Greatness achievement in NHL 21 - Definitive Guide

So this is not particularly hard just very long and grindy you need to beat Wayne Gretzky points record which is a very high 2857 points in total. The best way to do it is play your rookie career and get the Calander and Stanley Cup trophy achievement out of way and the sim until your last year unfortunately you can't turn off the cutscenes so just try and decline any offers players/coaches offer you and it should be the quickest way to sim the season I think a year took me about 20-30 mins max not long just annoying how many times the scenes pop up 😐

The mistake I made was making my player a offensive D man so as I've been simming the seasons my max points have been on average about 60-70 a year so best bet is to make a winger that is a sniper which should sim better than a D man will and rack up more points. I'm now on my last year with about 1500 points so still loads left to go it's just a case of playing the games on rookie and scoring as many goals or assists as possible until you get past the 2857 mark it's very do able just a grind hope everyone gets there eventually 😁

Just a little warning this achievement seems to have glitched on me and won't unlock I currently have 3000 points on my milestones but on the record book I'm only down for 1000 points just make sure you have plenty of back up saves and keep an eye on if your points are been recorded hope no one else runs into this issue and if anyone has a fix please let me know unless I find one myself redface

Update after starting a new season as a RW and playing the full first season and simming the rest I can happily say the achievement has unlocked for me just keep you eye on the nhl record part and make sure it is tracking the milestone page seems to say on 1000 points but it was fully tracked on the records page good luck to everyone 🤞👍

What did you have for points after rookie year? I played most of rookie and a lot of sophomore year and going to try this method of simming the rest. I just finished 3rd season and have 1049 points.

No playoff games are separate so they don't count unfortunately

this might have been fixed, for those still going for it. I had a player with 1600 points and on the milestone page it stopped tracking. I figured I would sim ahead in that to at least get the retire with gold status achievement and I was getting close to breaking the record, so I went for it and even with the milestone page not tracking the achievement popped. I did have to play the game to get the point to break the record.

How does EA manage to come up with achievements like this? I’m still on my first year and I’m trying to get at least 10 points or more a game. What a grind! And I thought the 300 laps in Forza 6 was a grind.

Edit: just saw they added this same achievement in NHL 22 🙄

I agree makes you play the game unrealistically in my opinion I played my 1st season not going for point but after that was just a drag and a boring grind playing easy difficulty 20 min games dragged I hope it's not on nhl 22 but knowing Ea it will be same list again 🙄

You can also in the stats section go to your player card (RS) then look at Full Career Stats (A)

This is a very time consuming achievement (roughly 50 hours).
You need to pass 2857 points in 25 seasons. Simming entire seasons only got me around 75-100 points per season so you’re gonna have to do some extra scoring. For this just turn difficulty down to rookie and change the sliders so your player becomes faster than everyone else and has higher shot power / accuracy. Turn down goalies reactions etc. Also turn off all penalties and rules. Make your character a center and with adjusted sliders just easily win the faceoff, to your bottom left teammate request a pass from him and score a goal. It should take you 4 seconds of the gameclock per goal scored. Score 50 goals in the game and then sim to the end. Then you can sim the rest of the season and hit roughly 125-150 points which is more than enough for the achievement over the years. Some tips:
- character should be Center so you get the faceoff
- sim using the „sim to next big event“ as it’s faster than calendar simming
- upgrade your player asap, especially passing / offensive awareness
- I’d rather score more goals in the early seasons so your player levels up quicker (eg.: had multiple 2-300 point seasons in the first couple seasons by playing more myself / less simming).
- buy the salary perks that level up your player permanently, once you’ve done that you can get bonus trait points by buying the art (under things) and euro trip (under leisure) every 180 days.
- in teammate conversations always do „Star“ and „act out „ as this will not give you a follow up pop up.
- if your team is not one of the best teams in the league you can request a trade under „GM“ and ask to be traded to a contender. You will obviously score more goals / assists if your teammates are better.
- sim through the postseason as those points do not count for the achievement (must be regular season points).
Good luck

In my opinion the best way to complete this trophy as quick as possible is to:

Make a quick speedy character (easier to get breakaways)

Rookie mode

Get at least over 10 goals /game

Leave (ur points will still count and u might get more through the auto sim)

Repeat those steps and keep doing it until u get 2.9k - 3k points!

honestly i recommend simming the first 24 years as you need to play 25 years to retire. it will require to grind way less points manually in the end

Yeah auto-simming is going to take forever if you have to stop the sim every 10 seconds when a teammate/manager stops for the convos.

Just to give others an idea, I simmed 23 seasons after playing my rookie season and got 1,633 points out of it or 71/season. I regret picking winger as my centre loses faceoffs all the time so it is slower to score, and I also regret being a 2-way forward which may have slowed points/season as I was often not even the team leading scorer. Even with an overall rating of 99 I only had 1 season over 100 points and otherwise was basically never more than a point per game. Your stats start deteriorating in late seasons I an 89 in my final season.

As far as the constant conversations they are a huge nuisance but I learned it is better to navigate any issuing challenges than it is to just mash the button. Accepting a challenge means it stops the sim so you have to resume, and then another conversation to evaluate how you did, whereas if you spend the extra few seconds to make sure you decline it the sim keeps going and you avoid the second conversation.

Whatever you come up with, it will be a very long and boring achievement that will take you about 20 hours.
A few tips that will speed up the process a little.
-Turn up all the player’s indicators to maximum - speed, throws, etc. For the goalkeeper, on the contrary, everything is at a minimum. This is done in the game settings, do not confuse it with player indicators such as passes and speed, which are adjusted in the mode itself.
Set the match time to 20 minutes.
-Create a sniper center.
-Since no one will put you in the center in the first seasons due to the presence of stronger ones in the team, then simulate them. The only thing is that you can go in and play a 20-minute match to get an achievement for the beginner trophy. The season simulation takes about half an hour.
You can simulate until the last season. You will have around 1000-1200 points.
And so, if you are in the last season with good results, then you will play in the center. Hence the next advice.
-When throwing in, use a throw between your legs (Lb+Rb+Up left stick) or L1+R1, as you prefer. This way you will immediately go one-on-one.
On average, such a match lasts 1.5 hours, during which you can score 150-200 points on average, my record is 250, with a score of 256-0.

Another important thing to note is that goals in the Playoffs do not count, only regular season goals!
