From the main screen go down so you can see all of the options.
Select Ones Now
The left player will be you, the right 2 will be the 2 players you face off against.
I scored 3 goals and my opponents scored 0. I'm not sure if just winning the game gave me a new character or the amount of goals, but all I did was a lot of poke checking and once I had an opportunity alone at the net I was able to score without much issue.
