How to unlock the Golden Years achievement in NHL 24 - Definitive Guide
October 17, 2023 UPDATE: Already got a report of retirement happening at the end of the 2040-2041 Season. That's great for this achievement but horrible for Greatness because that's more hours you have to physically play now to score enough goals in time.
NOTE: 21 seasons was my experience in this game on both versions. Last year's NHL was random, as I got different retirement years in both titles. If you encounter a different retirement year, PLEASE let me know so I can amend this solution.
Gold Legacy Status is the easy part, you should have it be your second season of Be A Pro if you're going for the Trophy Case and Greatness achievement. The painful part is retiring. You CANNOT retire early in this game, you have to play a full ?? seasons of Be A Pro until the game automatically retires you at the end of the ???? season which is going to be an agonising slog of a grind thanks to how awful and repetitive this mode is.
You'll want to get the Greatness trophy done during the ?? years and then sim out the rest, sitting through ENDLESS cutscenes of your teammates harassing you about visiting every tourist trap in the world, your goldfish memory agent getting you the same movie and deodorant deals over and over again, and your coach whining about whatever before, during, and after games. At the end of the ???? Season you'll basically get a "Thanks for playing!" screen and the achievement will pop.

It seems that retirement is also random in this game. I got the “Thanks for playing” screen at the end of the 2045-2046 season, as I kept getting contracts to play for my selected team in the form of 1 and two year contracts.
