How to unlock the Score on a breakaway (Amateur) achievement in NHL 2K6 - Definitive Guide

For the game settings and etc. check the above guide. You need two controllers for this method.

When the game starts, pull back (after you gain possession of the puck obviously) and complete at least one rotation around your own goal. After that, hit start on the second controller, go to "Strategy," then choose "Pull Goalie." Rush past your opponents by holding the right trigger, and then all you have to do is hit the puck into the goal by pressing the X button, not the A button, which is why it took me forever to get this achievement. Every guide I read neglected to mention this.

As for the definition of a breakaway, it is when a player gets past all of his opponents and goes mano a mano (one on one) against the goalie, though in this case there will only be an empty goal.

Slight correction to the above. Use the player 2 team and take the puk behind the player one goal. The pull the goalie. Return to player one (controller) and get the puk and race off to score. You need to get ahead of all the defense men.... hence break away.... X to score and it unlocks.

Manipulating the game settings is the key to getting every achievement in NHL2k6 easily. These settings can be found after you choose your team in quick play mode. Press the Y button at the settings screen to access them and the bumpers to scroll through the different settings.

For this achievement, set the difficulty to Amateur or higher, set all of the AI skill sliders down to 0 and all of the Human sliders up as far as they will go. It is also best to set the period clock to a full 20 minutes so you have lots of time to get the goal. It's also best to select a very good team for yourself and a very bad team for your opponent. Denmark seems to be the favorite team to beat up on.

Now, it's simply up to you to score a goal on a breakaway. It should be very easy and almost impossible to not get with the sliders adjusted.

It's really not necessary, but you can also pull the opponents goalie using a second controller. Just make sure you are past both defenseman before you shoot to insure you are on a breakaway.

Cheers!

Score a goal on a breakaway. Pretty self explanatory, A breakaway is when when one of your players goes one on one with the opposite teams goalie (or net depending on whether or not you pull the goalie.) You can does this normally or with a second controller. If doing it with a secnod controller then be a good team like the all-stars and chose a bad team for your friend, or the other controller, Start the game. Get the puck go behind your own net, then sprint towards the other net. When at half take the other controller and Pause then select "Team Strategy" then "Pull Goalie." The shoot at the empty net when you're close enough.

*Difficulty must be at least on Amateur*
