How to unlock the Powerplay Specialist achievement in NHL 2K9 - Definitive Guide
Use the 2 controller method (like everything else). Have partner click X or B to get roughing or slashing or trippin...just any penalty. Boost up the penalties if you need to in options. When on the PP, have partner pull his goalie (right on D-Pad, then RB). Achievement pops up right after the 3rd goal.
Again, use two controllers. Take controller two and commit a penitly so the profile you want the achievement with goes on the Powerplay. Use controller two to pull the other team's goalie and you can get an easy goal. Do this 3 times in a single game for the achievement.
if you are like me and you dont own two controllers, then basically none of the guides for this game are of any use to you. this is what i did to eventually get this one, hopefully if you are having a tough time getting this one this will help you. these are just a few tips for you to think about.
-first max out all of the penalties.
-this may require you to play with longer period times. because it will unlock immediately and not at the end of the game id suggest playing with twenty minute periods, just to make sure that you have enough time to get three or more powerplay situations. (after it unlocks you can always quit out)
-it might help if you also max out the human players offensive abilities in the options page.
-i found that most of the time when the computer would get called for a penalty it would be right after a face off. i wouldnt bother trying to win the face offs, because for some reason when id just sit back and take them easy the computer's wing players would go charging in to the center circle and the refs would call them for either spearing, roughing, or charging because theyd take out my wingmen in the process. it was very rare that i could get them to get called for any penalties when i was on breakaways, so thats why i started doing it this way.
