How to unlock the Night of a Thousand Stars achievement in Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix - Definitive Guide

I will be honest - there is no easy way around this and it is miserable. I am simply posting what I used to get through it in hopes it at least gives people an idea on how to manage.

First, you have to come in 1st in every race. And if you don’t in race 4? Well, you start back at race 1. It’s the worst.

You 100% have to use the frogs (Mr and Mrs Bighead I think) as your special. Use it throughout the race but MAKE SURE you have one available near the end. They can sometimes win you races by pulling you ahead after the cpu flies by you for no reason at all before the finish line. For crew I used boost on coin pickup and boost on item pickup (don’t remember which characters those are - sorry!)

I used Rocco with full speed/turbo and some steering. Honestly, drifting is pointless most of the time so there’s no need to sacrifice anything else on it. Besides that, it takes a massive amount of perseverance and luck.

*Difficulties do not stack*. Hope this helps.

PS - You can plug in 3 other controllers and try doing this against only 4 AI racers. This did help on one or two of the events I couldn’t do. However, getting hit right before the finish line + items that hit first place have the same unfair balance so it doesn’t solve the problem completely. The best AI racer will still try and ruin the game, but I will admit that less AI = less random items and chaos. Still doesn’t remove how unfair the AI is though.

Many thanks for the set/loadout ideas.
Just finally completed it.

My Set, I completed all cups on.

Driver: Shredder
Chief: April (Speed boost and invisibility)
Engineer Grandpa Phil (Speed Burst bonus item)
Mechanic: Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy (Speed boost when running over slime coin)
Engine: 90s Tv
Wheels: Slime
Exhaust: Slime

This set was also insanely good for completing all the ghost time trials. I usually beat them by +15-20 seconds

Now besides combo/set, driving skill on this speed and tiny tracks. But most of all luck plays the biggest part. For example, the jelly fish coming near the finish line on the final lap. I actually won two of the cups. Being 2nd and unable to catch the CPU in first. Jellyfish caught him right before the line, final race, final lap and I was able to glide past. And sometimes it was the exact opposite and went against me. Other times, no jellyfish at all. Then there's all the unfair advantages the CPU gets, which are numerous. Such as do they happen to shoot a football right before the finish line, and you won't have a counter item. Or they get that damn fire speed burst right the end.

Can confirm that doing any of the higher difficulty cups from the get-go will NOT stack with the lower ones. Just won my very first cup on Hard right at the beginning and it didn't count for the lower difficulties.

Yeah no stacking which makes the game horrible and insane is just dumb. I’ll add that it doesn’t stack just so everyone knows.

Yeah its Ed & Bev Bighead, and was thinking I should focus on Turbo (if that is acceleration) more than Top Speed instead. Also Spunky's the one you meant, not Spike.

My friggin god the first two cups are THE worst of them all on Insane, those high speed tracks are beyond a nightmare more than any other.

@Gutsy - I used Eugene sometimes, but I found that the AI behaved the same regardless and getting hit near the end with the weapon that hits first place nullifies all abilities if I remember. So it ended up not really mattering at all, whereas boost on coins really helped in some areas. I think finding a good mix for boosts will help anyone who attempts it, so maybe it’s just preference.

I used zim. Turbo is how fast and long you stay in boost. Acceleration is different i guess. Turbo is a nice option too. I haven't played the game for months so im not sure

FINALLY, I JUST FINISHED THE LAST CUP! Spent like 8 hours on the Football and Hairball cups alone.

I used Rocko with the Candy Store engine, Slime tires & exhaust, the Bigheads, Eugene and Abner in the end for those two cups, both of them are by far the hardest ones imho even though they are the first two in the game.

The pain is over for me at least, just gotta buy everything now and I'm done.

Congrats Tendo! I don’t remember which ones I had the most trouble with, but one of them had the ice level I know that.

That's the Football Cup, its the 3rd track if I recall.

Its not as bad as the first race on Foodcourtia though, my god the AI I swear is at its worst out of all tracks in the game on that.

Just to confirm for anyone doing this in the future, you have to finish 1st on each track and restarting takes you right back to the beginning. First cup is a nightmare I agree, the CatDog track is near impossible despite having full turbo, even though I finish 1st on the other tracks most of the time.

I tried so many times on hardest and it's near impossible. I don't know if it will help to get it coop. A tip for anyone who hasn't played this. There are 4 difficulties. To get the fourth you need to beat the 3rd

@I Archvile I: All I did differently was swap the 90s Tv engine with the Candy Store engine and that got me past the Conglom-o Cup, the trade-off here is more steering for less drift but it's the same setup as yours otherwise. This engine might be useful for tracks like track 4 in the Conglom-o Cup, I haven't tested it in the other cups though.

Update 12/21/22: Nearly finished with this achievement and game as I only have 1 more cup to do. Neptune cup I used your setup and won within several attempts. ARGGH! cup I used my setup again and won. D.R.E.A.M cup I swapped the 90's TV Engine for the Monster Engine but kept everything else the same and that did the trick, Monster Engine trades turbo and drift for speed and steering, just goes to show that you don't need a full stat bar to win this.

Update 12/22/22: Finally done with this game, for the Super Slime Cup I swapped the 90's TV Engine with the Ace Saavy Engine but kept everything else the same, Ace Saavy Engine trades Turbo and Drift for Steering and Speed. I don't know if this will help anyone, but it will give you some ideas at least.

Update: I actually got it because the Neptune cup was the only one that gave me trouble. Patrick was my go-to for The Spirit World and it took me a few more tries. But I got it nonetheless.

If anyone else is struggling with this, I am using these two crew members and it seems to be working a little better:
1. The guy who shortens your immobility time after being hit,
2. The guy who gives you a boost after you recover from a hit.

The reason for this is that it's impossible to avoid getting hit most of the time, and this greatly reduces the effects of being hit.

Best crew is Eugene ( allow you to recover from hit) and spike ( allow you not to lose speed while going offroad. Ghe only characters you should choose are ones focusing on acceleration. The AI rubberband to you no matter what your max speed is so acceleration help you recover from hits and hitting corners easier. For chief definitely choose the toads ( bev and ed?) im not sure for the exact name but its the two toads you unlock doing challenges that slow down enemies and give you a boost. Use car parts that increase your acceleration and handling like slime variations which unlocks by doing time trials. Goodluck. This game is more patient based than skill base

Commenting from the future. STILL a super tough grind waiting for RNG to break your way. I beat it today 2.12.23 with:
Shredder
90s TV
Slime EX
Slime Wheel
Ed+Bev Bighead
Mermaid Man + Barnacle Boi
Grandpa Phil

some tips:
Make SURE you are using ANY available shortcut. If the AI is taking a different path, you're probably going the wrong way.
USE BOOSTJUMP!
In addition to boosting when you go up a ramp and hit the green arrows by pressing LB, if you are in the air long enough or miss the initial up boost you can press LB just before you land to do another boost!
Plug in 3 more controllers. I sat them on Reptar, Jojo Siwa, and Rocco. This limits the AI absolutely screwing the hell out of you somewhat. Progress on the cups in Multiplayer counts just like SOLO.
KEEP. GOING. I think I clocked around 30 hours just getting to Impossible cup. Now i'm at 52 hours and just have to grind out the last few coincs in the store. This is REALLY frustrating but doable. AI cheats, rubber bands right behind or even in front of you, 99 blue shells comin your way at all times. You gotta just keep doing these levels Iceman perfect AND hope RNG allows you to win. Brb throwing this disc in my pool now.

Happy Gunting!

The best character/kart combination for speed is:

Rocko or Shredder
90s TV or Candy Store engine
Slime, Ace Savvy, or Glitter wheels
Slime exhaust pipes

The most common combo is usually TV engine, Slime wheels and slime exhaust. This gives a good balance of steering and drift when using Shredder.

The best chief/crew members combination is:
April O'Neil or Zuko
Eugene and Muddy Mudskipper are best for speed, but Leni Loud and Mrs. Puff can also be good for specific tracks.

These combos are typically used for speedrunning, and can make the harder tracks a bit more bearable.
