How to unlock the Man of Means achievement in NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139... - Definitive Guide

This is unlocked upon having 1,000,000 coins at once, it is NOT cumulative. So I suggest to not spend anything for the entire playthroughs ( all the way to Ending E ), complete all side quests which nets quite a sizeable amount of Money. When you have finished Ending E, save the game and go to a shop, list everything to sell and see if you reach the required 1 mil, if not there is 2 options.

1) Complete the 3rd Recycled Vessel door ( which is unlocked after finishing the game, its a diary on a shelf in Niers house ). Finished this will give you 50,000 everytime you run it and can be easily completed within 15 minutes if you select easy as your difficulty.

2) You can start the long and tedious grind of gathering materials for upgrading all your weapons. This is more productive as you are working towards finishing another grind as you gather enough money for your achievement.

When you get your achievement you can just reload your save so that you still have all your materials.

On ending A I had about 350k in gold on me and 600k in items so I just caught fish to get it out of the way, fishing is very easy if you've done those quests.

While it is recommended you wait to purchase any/most of the weapons until after you have this trophy, but the grinding for it isn't nearly as bad as it might sound, so if you don't want to grind out gold to purchase the weapons for Endings C and D, it's okay. This trophy is not cumulative - you must have all 1 million pieces of gold on you at one single time.

There are two places where grinding gold is easiest. The one you choose is up to you and whether or not you are done with your weapon upgrades.

Location 1: Fishing in the Desert

If you're just looking to get money without wanting to worry about also picking up any raw materials for weapon upgrades, the fishing spot in the Desert is going be your best friend. Make sure you have finished the Fisherman's Gambit questline in full, then pack yourself up with Sardines and head over to the Desert. When you're ready, keep fishing, alternating between just the Lure and the Sardines. In this time, you'll fish up some junk, but you'll also fish up the 3 top-selling fish in the game; Sandfish (Lure, sells for 2,500G each), Hyneria (Lure/Sardines, sells for 6,000G each), and of course, the Rhizodont (Sardines, sells for 12,000G each). After about half an hour of fishing, you can easily reel in enough fish to net you roughly 200,000+ G. Sell the fish at the vendor in Seafront, restock on Sardines if needed, and repeat the process until you've reached 1,000,000 Gold.

Location 2: "Recycled World" Quest 3

If you're looking to get money as well as raw materials for upgrading your weapons, the 3rd quest in the Recycled World is going to be your partner-in-crime. The Recycled World quests open up after you complete the game the first time (see Dear Diary trophy_bronze.png for more information). To get to them, interact with your Mom's Diary inside your house (just to right of the front door). The 3rd quest will unlock once you've completed the 2nd, which of course will unlock after you've completed the 1st. This quest takes about 15-20 Minutes to complete (possibly faster if you're just a lot better at this than I am, lol) and you'll earn yourself 50,000G each time you complete it. It may not be as much as the fishing, but you will get a lot of raw materials running this.

Again, the method you choose is up to you. You'll be spending a bit of time on this no matter what you do, so just be prepared for a little bit of grinding. As soon as your money total shows at least 1,000,000G, the trophy will unlock.

This is not a cumulative achievement, so you must have the full million at the same time in your inventory. Since we won't really be upgrading weapons much until the Ending C path, you can just keep everything you earn up until then. If you are somewhat close to the achievement, you could save and sell everything you have to earn it, then revert your save to get your items back.

Just don't sell or buy anything the entire game. Healers and other things fall in droves from killed monsters; you will receive some of the weapons according to the plot. Complete side quests, especially in the second half of the game - they give you 10-30 thousand gold for them, sometimes 50. Most likely, even in this case you will not be able to collect a million, but in any case you will go to the second and third endings. After getting the second ending, I sold everything I collected, receiving about 1.1 million.

IMPORTANT: be sure to save before selling, and after receiving the trophy, load the save. All that garbage that you sold, all those “bent baseball bats” and other crap will be useful to you to upgrade your weapon for another trophy. These are VERY rare items that would otherwise take hours to farm. Don't repeat my mistake.

You can go through the right door repeatedly into the "Recycled World". They give 50,000 gold + also experience for leveling up your character

You can catch Royal Fish in the Eastern Road location. It's quite easy and quick to catch if you've completed the Fisherman's Gambit quest line, and costs 4,000 when sold.
Another option for raising money is growing and selling Lunar Tears - they cost 5,000 apiece.

I recommend catching 99 pieces in one go and then selling them again
