This will come with time if going for the completion, however if wanting to get this done faster here are my tips.
-The more strength you have, the faster you will cut trees.
-The better the axe you have, means the more strength you have, which leads to faster cutting trees.
-Holding down the 'Y' button while walking will automatically cut trees (as long as you have an axe equipped).
-Each of the 4 territory maps have trees.
-Cut during the day time so that you don't have to fight enemies.
-Have no AI enemies, so that they don't get in your way.

Velvet
This will come naturally as you work towards completing the game in under 100 days for the Hermit trophy. You'll need to cut down a lot of trees for supplies (Timber, Twigs, Resin etc.) for tools, weapons, building upgrades, potions etc. You can only cut them down with an Axe so be sure to always have a few on you when you're on running around on the surface.
