How to unlock the Mark of the Master Ninja achievement in NINJA GAIDEN 2 Black - Definitive Guide
First thing first, you need to beat the game campaign on any difficulty in order to unlock the regular MN, Then you need to beat regular MN campain to unlock MN chapter select.
Achieving a MN rank depends on the Karma points scored throughout the chapter. The karma points depends on several factors but the must important and crucial factor is the enemies killed in the chapter. As long as you kill all of the enemies in the chapter you will achieve the MN rank. Doing that i got all of the MN ranks first try and i am an average player. Just try to use UTs When possible and don't avoid it intentionally.
MN chapter select will be easier than regular MN since you have all of the weapons /ninpos maxed out from the start, Especially the first 4 chapters will be so much easier. The disadvantage is starting each chapter with 0 essence and the store is expensive. The general strategy is collecting and buying healing items and preserve them for the hardest section/boss in the given chapter. Save points works the same as campain and you can quit the game and resume anytime later. Also dying won't have any penalty
Karma point (KP) factors:
1-Ninpo: You will get some KP when finishing a chapter While having ninpos so if you have a mushroom at the end of the level use them to fill up your ninpo meter or if you have a talisman of rebirth and you are close to finish the level just die intentionally to fill up your ninpo meter. (You can completely igonre this factor and use the ninpo as you wish or finish the chapter with 0 ninpos because its affect is minor but i decided to explain it)
2-Essence: You will get some KP when finishing a chapter depending on the essence collected throughout the whole chapter, getting a high combo kills will get you more essence. (You can also completely igonre this factore since it will come naturally and its affect is minor)
3-Time: Time is an important factor but don't worry you don't have to rush att all, you have plenty of time. you can backtrack to save, store or use some slow strategies and still get the best time just don't AFK.
4-Kills: Now this is the most important factor and a rank changer. You need to kill all of the enemies on the chapter. Most of the time this will come naturally unless you are intentionally skipping/despawning enemies. Also you need to kill the boss minions and and enemies in the optional encounters. I will speak in more details:
-Despawning: You can sometimes despawn enemies unintentionally when back tracking far away during a fight especially the fixed location enemies (Archers and RPG guys). Move through the chapter area by area don't rush. At least You finished the game 2 times by now and know all of the enemy spawns. if something seems unusuall or enemy despawned just pause>chapter select>resume from last save.
-Optional encounters: There are multiple chapters with optional enemies that can be triggered to spawn by failing to do a certian jump/wall-run or by entering an optional room. And also the optional caged dragon miniboss at ch13 you need all of them. You should know all of the spawns by now since this is at least your 3rd playthrough.
To clarify more. You don't have to literally kill every enemy, you can miss some and get the MN rank but that works only with +100 enemy chapters. While the girls chapters and chapter17 for example have low number of enemies and missing some of them can directly affect the rank.
As a bounce i will explain a strategy for the 2 chapters that get harder after game lunch update. Check it if you have a problem with ch13+14, The general idea is to control where you fight!. simply trigger the enemies to spawn and backtrack/run to a specific far location, now each time you kill an enemy followed you a replacement will spawn but where? farr away!, and he need to run for several seconds to rach you which will give you a time to breath and not been overwhelmed. You can even prepare UTs while they are coming.
-Chapter13 pyramid staircase: Run directly to the top of the staircase where you will find a flat platform and a chest, Now this is our camping spot. Kill the enemies following you. For some reason only 1-2 enemies will follow you to the flat platform, the others will stay at the top of the staircase waiting for there turn and they will have a bad engle from there so they can't hit you with expectation shrunken easily. The first waves spawn far away fro mypu and they will get closer by time. After the 3-4 normal ninja waves. The Claw Ninja will spawn. be carfull here snince they can directly spawn at the flat platform. Idealy you have preserved your 4 ninpos(pluse 3 mushrooms) use wind blades ninpo with lunar staff ID spam to deal with them. video guide for the strategy:
-The beginning of Chapter14: Our spawn point is our camping spot. Simply move forward, trigger the enemy spawn and run back, finish the wave and trigger the next one and so on. Believe me it is much easier this way where you deal with them without being overwhelmed. Use the wind blades ninpo when needed or preserve it for the following dogs section/twins boss fight. video guide for the strategy:
Getting this achievement won't give you the other difficulty achievements. you need a minimum of 8 playthroughs for the game completion.
Believe me it's a very doable achievement if you have already done the regular MN. Sorry for the long guide but i like to explain everything in details. Good luck guys!

Hey!
Just wanted to add my tips to aid in for everyone’s
MN run! This guide is simply offered to provide some strategies and tips for your NG2B CC run, whether on MN or on Acolyte.
A couple of pointers:
- The videos below are all on Master Ninja, so gameplay and enemy typings will vary if you play on lower difficulties.
- All of the chapter videos (at the bottom) will provide tips on some safer and more effective ways to deal with mobs and bosses throughout, such at utilising choke points, effective weapon/combos, or other general strategies. Feel free to follow these at your leisure.
- There is no claim these runs are deathless, but all deaths are cropped out the videos to reduce redundant time and size.
- This guide will assume you have a basic knowledge of gameplay terms and their respective acronyms (Obliteration Technique = OT, for example).
Tips for your run:
- The whole premise of the Chapter Challenge is to get as high a score as possible. So ET, UT, OT spams are essential, as these are where the most points are earned. These are essentially free points for delimbed stragglers.
- The difficulty curve is very sharp compared to campaign. MN CC is easier than campaign MN to begin with. You start the first level with all weapons fully upgraded, so you will feel pretty OP in comparison to starting your campaign MN run. But Yellow Essence and items do NOT carry through levels becoming problematic in later levels - particularly in A Tempered Gravestone, and onwards. Therefore resource and item management is vital.
- As your YE starts a zero each level, building it up efficiently is vital to assist with later chapters. An enemy killed with a fully charged UT will yield the biggest YE drops. Try to collect these without charging ET/UT to maximise returns. This can be difficult at many places throughout, but can be done when facing weaker enemies or when the final few of a fight are delimbed.
- Some/most mid-level bosses offer a full heal afterwards. Something to bear in mind when considering your resource management. I would also recommend practicing boss fights to reduce item useage. This will aid in the later levels.
- The extra characters’ levels are exactly the same, as you start with 0 GE with them normally, anyway.
- As always, abuse I-frames.
- You start each Chapter with all possible LoTGs/LoaTGs up to that point. So the chests where you’d usually find them will provide free health/ninpo refills. Again, aim to utilise these accordingly.
