How to unlock the Way of the Master Ninja achievement in NINJA GAIDEN II - Definitive Guide

Ok, I just got through Master Ninja the other day, it was one heck of a trip! Let me throw some tips at ya:

1. Use the Lunar. It is, if used correctly, the best weapon in the game (maybe aside from the Scythe). I got all the way to chapter 6 with the Lunar, and never even used it before. Upgrade the Lunar to level 2 ASAP and don't worry about level 3. Use the Izuna Drop (Jump, X, X, Y) constantly. Not only is it faster than the Dragon Swords Izuna Drop, but the Lunar's makes you jump into the air, avoiding the ground attacks. Using the Izuna Drop with the Lunar can be tricky at times. Master it. Also with bosses (again, using the Lunar) use X, X, Y when you see an opening to attack, then run, rinse and repeat.

2. Those SOB IS Ninjas. If you get an Incendiary Shuriken (or 2, or 5) stuck in you, immediatly block and time the part where it explodes with a quick dash in any direction to negate it. Jump on a ninjas head. Use a UT. Use the Izuna Drop with the Lunar. Anything that involves Invincibility Frames, use them.

3. Despawning Enemies. This is the cheapest, most life-saving technique in the game. As soon as a group of enemies spawn (and this is extremely helpful with the Explosive Arrow Ninjas) run ALL the way back where you came from, no matter the distance, just keep running. You will eventually reach a point where the enemies will dissapear. Also, even if they don't dissapear and are following you, that's good. Because then you have them coming at you in a line, rather than surrounding you at all sides. You can also usually run straight through them and into the next area. If you get to Chapter 11, run through everything if you can't fight all of them.

4. Think smart. Lead the enemies into an area you will have an easier time fighting at (preferably a spot where they can only come at you 1 or 2 at a time, like a staircase). If you have to fight in a tight hallway where you can't dodge their attacks, lead them into a bigger area.

5. Don't save your ninpo. ALWAYS have more than one save file, and after every battle (if you are in good or decent shape) return to an earlier save point and save.

Master Ninja is all about trial and error, and quite a bit of luck involved as well. You will die ALOT, so be prepared for that and frustration. But keep pushing and retrying, you will eventually make it through.

I got through without farming and only 2 save slots (could have made it with 1) so anything is possible!

Patience has been mentioned by others but this one in particular is beyond the need for patience.
I worked on this on and off for the last 4 years, don't get discouraged.

Remember that you have a cute little Ryu picture waiting for you when you're done!

Very funny to read this now in 2012. I began the game in 2008, performed it on mentor in 2010 and try to beat it on master ninja just now... 4 years!!! O_o
I am in level 3... I WANT THIS RYU'S PICTURE!!!

Using the Tonfas are also very useful, as they are very quick and have a lot of invincibility frames, plus the UT can do damage to multiple enemies

I just finished the game the other day on Mentor.. I picked it back up from ch. 8 and took time but made it.. I'm now playing it on master ninja.. its only hard because you start with nothing.. I'm farming karma and I'm at 30,000 essence.. I'm worried that I won't be able to replace my items...
I wanna get at least 100,000 essence.. is that unreasonable?

You will get much more than 100k essence if you play right. Using UTs will get that for you, and doing the trials if you can handle them. The tonfa one charge UT will kill a ninja, that is the tonfa's strong point. No other weapon can do that if I remember right. The scythe usually is the best weapon against bosses, because it does the most damage with the y combo, I believe. the dragon sword can stun lock many enemies, most notably the lightning boss (too long ago, can't remember his name anymore). The talon Izuna is actually better and cheaper than the lunar, due to its flying swallow style. The staff is good, but its not the best weapon in the game. The last thing you want to do is use one weapon, that's bad advice. You will gain a lot of essence by using the correct weapons at the correct time. Also save your life/lives of the gods if you want later boss battles to be easy . I could probably write a thorough tip for this game, but its too old for that. I just signed up on here and saw this page so I commented.

I did Master Ninja using mainly the Tonfas, Claws and Scythe, because the Tonfas have Invincibility frames (especially helpful on bosses like Genshin and Alexei), the claws for the quick flying swollow-into-Izuna technique and the Scythe due to the heavy damage with the jumping XXY combo (REAL useful on Degra Dai and the very last boss).

Just don't forget to use the guillotine throw when for their invincibility frames (like when you are hit with inc shurikens)

An insecure conjecture, "everyone". Clearly, those videos are beyond you. Too bad. It hurts for someone with the opinion of it being the "best game ever made" (it's not); along with being "flawless" (it's not). Deathsmiles is beyond this game and all versions have been done in a similar manner. Trying to doubt obvious feats is desperate; along with being null and void.

Got my Ryu gamerpic today! To add what was said before about the Lunar, get that to level 3 ASAP, that can carry you pretty hard early on (and like NG1, the earlier chapters are the hardest)! You absolutely need it at level 2 before the Rasetsu boss. You mainly want it for its highly damaging XXY attack (great against most bosses) and the devastating rotate Y UT.

Invincible Ninja Glitch
External image

Beating the game over 10 times and reading about this glitch gave me motivation to do this glitch. I can easily say with enough time and patience I could have done the game without it, If you played the game as much as I have you would grow sick of it too. So thanks to who ever found this glitch who is unknown, I cannot claim to finding the glitch, but I can claim to everything in this guide to help others out, every method, tip, or information on the glitch (except the glitch itself) has been done and tested by myself, taking the time to mess around with it to make this guide to help others.

Introduction

Starting Tips:

Techniques:

Bosses:

General Tips:

If anyone has more to add to this guide please comment or message me and I will add it with credit of course. If you record any video of using the glitch (especially with my methods mixed) that would be great if you can send it to me and I will add it to my solution with credit of course.

Video 1: I just wanted to show you the glitch and how it can EXTREMELY help in certain situations. The video was done by Kumar Abhishek (who is ironically against it)

Video 2: This video is much more clear and is a great part to use the glitch helping out beautifully. This video was done by samuraigaming

Video 3: This video is at one of the hardest parts in the game and you can see how helpful it becomes, you can defeat the ninjas before fighting the Spider Ninjas alone. Video is in spanish, but the visual is the idea, not the commentary. If you do know spanish, thats a plus. Credit for video goes to youtube user Marco Hayabusa.

So basically it freezes you? And you can only jump, but what good does this do at all??

No, it doesn't freeze you, you jump then move around with your left analog stick. Its not hard, it can get annoying but its well worth it. I go around killing all the ninjas, best part is while your fighting ANY boss you can pause by pushing up on the D-pad then activate the glitch, and they wont hurt you. Then wait for an opening, pull your weapon out and beat the shit out of them, then go back into invincible mode. I tested this theory out and it works like a charm!

Glitch still works. Looking for ways to beat the bosses. I also want to kill enough enemies to replenish my healing items instead of just running past all of the ones you can.

Man, this game is difficult.

The Invincible strategy can be used to turn off and on when needed, you don't have to skip all enemy's, for instance when you get the Eclipse Scythe you can jump in the glitch then equipt the scythe, XXYY, then upon landing to into the glitch again. Its not bulletproof but it beats doing everything legit.

Can't believe people use the invincible strategy. It ruins everything about this game, the game is not supposed to be easy. Just my point of view, this strategy is only for noobs that absolutely can't play this game. So if you need to use this cheat you really shouldn't play this game. If you find this comment is offensive or anything, feel free to remove it.

Honestly you guys should jump on Master Ninja and try using this glitch because it doesnt make the game as easy as you think. I would agree with your statements if you could stay in invincibility and kill everyone while in it without any problems, its in my opinion a technique if anything, I had to master it to use it. Go ahead, give it a try see how it feels.

I have no idea how I got here. Don't have this gane and don't plan to. Just saw loads of crap that you pour on heads here.
Snowed, you put me in a bad position, because with my language in you being a girl it's difficult to phrase right my thoughs. I'll be gentle - what the hell do you think you're doing? The guy offered fair and square a overall good solution for those who can't master the game at highest difficulty. Not everyone as good as you are of a bunch of royal hack-n-slashers. If there is a glitch then it can be used, not up to you to decide what gamerpic can or can't be chosen by anyone for display. You're going too far with all your "injustice, respect, insulting, deceitful". Same can be said about boosting - eh, you're not good at killing in multiplayer - let's "cheat legitimately" and make it in boosting session. But you don't see anyone complains about that. If you have this legit - then you are a really, really good at this game in particular and in hack-n-slash overall. But stop preaching to Wolf for trying to help others that not that good. His right. And right of others to use it or not to use it. Same goes for gamerpic.

I do feel accomplished, and to make players be better at what? Hack and slash games? I like being better at finding exploits to games and unlocking all achievements anyway I can as long as it isn't considered cheating by Microsoft or TrueAchievements. Thats all that matters in my eyes, there is skill in finding exploits to games and flaws, im not what you consider an "average gamer" and as nice as I am, once I find these things, I help out everyone else by creating solutions to achievements and help them get it as well. Trust me ive been in the same shoes, Starwars Force unleashed, on Sith difficulty, I did it 100% the game was made for, but then a glitch came out and I didn't do it because it wasn't there when I did it. But do I care right now? Not really because I have so much achievements I don't care about a few achievements that people are getting easier than I did.

I love TA ratio and I know when posting this solution I am helping drop this ratio, does that make me unhappy? Hell no because I know my solution is helping people and people will love me for helping them. For every person who Positive votes this solution and comments/messages thanking me, I thank you! smile

What hell, people? The guy found a glitch. You MAY or MAY NOT use it. For people that like the franchise and have found this difficulty to be a little too much, it's perfect. Whoever doesn't like the solution - I get it. Whoever has the achievement - why the hell you even be here?????? And don't fall even lower - don't bring "friends" to shit together on someone's head, it's disgusting.

He gives a valid solution that you COULD use and everyone insults the guy? Give me a break; this is really so silly to argue about because it brings the elitists that think they are better than everyone else because they have the achievement legit to confront those that may not want to spend day after day fighting the same boss over and over again. There should be a method to get through a boss if need be and if everyone has a complaint about it, talk to the developers about it if you are so ticked of that he has the gamerpic and you think it should be taken away. Regardless of how he got it, he gave a solution that works and it applies to anyone that currently wants to tackle the game and achieve what others did back when the game came out. If you wanna do it legit, go to the other solutions but give him a break. He got it done and nothing will take away the time he spent getting this achievement. it doesn't matter how people should get achievements whether there is a glitch or boosting or whatever; its done and everyone should move on unless they plan on going with his solution. Also, I got the achievement and I have no problem with him obtaining it this way because I'm done with it. Same should apply to the haters; get over circle jerking each other and go bug some other forum.

The solution works fine. I would keep the profile picture because yes you did earn it. You took advantage of an exploit but who cares? The solution is supposed to help with getting the achievement easily and it does. If the game has glitches then its perfectly fine to use them because anyone can do the same. There are shit loads of exploits and glitches all over TA. Get over it. If you do it legit, then good for you but the achievement is exactly the same no matter how u get it.. A few of these gamers are probably just pissed off that they wasted time doing it the proper way when they could have made it easier.

This reminds me of the solution for getting to lvl 30 in Far Cry 2. Hundreds of people (me included) got it "fair" by boosting for about 100 hours and then all of a sudden they noticed the ratio was dropping very rapidly.

New solution showed a way to trick you to get to lvl 30 in no time. Gave the poster a positive vote, just because I know I would have used his solution over all others if he had posted it six months prior.

Finding glitches is an art.
Nobody cries when people leave their consoles on for playing time on Mortal Kombat, or getting money on Assassin's Creed, or getting some invincibility glitch on Bioshock 2. I played this without them but I don't care - if it helps people, good for them. Why do people always feel the need to go through others' shit. Look into your own.
Many people find this useful. Who doesn't - well, do it your way. If the glitch wasn't patched till now, probably the developers don't give a shit. Players, on the other hand, can use those glitches if they don't break/modify the game.
Let everyone do what they like then.

Look at the end of the day the achievement is only an award for achieving something when you look at your achievement you see it as a look back at what you have done if the guy who glitched it looks at the achievement he knows exactly what he achieved and that was using the invincibility method its not like he is claiming to have done it the extremely difficult way then you guys have a reason to flame on him some people did seriously on gow legit the majority did not the people who did do it can look at their achievement and think wow i killed 10,000 people what a great feat im proud of that whereas others can look at it and think i put that much time into unlocking this thank god i have this achievement to signify that

it does not affect you in the slightest its not like him unlocking it his way means that you can't be proud of what you achieved
0
0
By TNelson1995 on 05 Feb 2015 17:11
@Nelson - you got me confused with someone else. I am not "proud" of any achievement, they are just some extra numbers and funny ( at times ) little pictures that put some more fun into the "basic" package, which is the game itself.

I don't care how everyone eats, as long as they don't make noises in my ears. I don't care how and where everybody shits as long as they don't do it on my property or another socially unacceptable place. We don't have "socially unacceptable" in gaming, you forget about that.
Achievement are fun, but then again, some people take them waaaay too seriously. There are much more important things in real life to be proud of.

TA achievements, you can see why I try so hard to make the best solutions, I get more out of helping gamers then unlocking them myself. I love achievements, but the best feeling is when you help many, many others get them.

Wolf, do you get enough sometimes of "boostin iz bad, get negative from me!" or "glitching is for foolz and pussiz"? Or maybe you don't.
I just got enough on your solutions and decided to step in, and to express myself that everybody is free to do whatever he wants. Judging people by this is hideous and ridiculous, whether someone plays and uses the glitch ( or whatever ) or he does not. We're still equal as gamers in my eyes.

Deevius, good for you, I am glad I made you laugh.

Why so much hate over a solution that works? So many people negative vote without reason or cause. There are many paths to achievements, and this is one. Why hate on someone who found a better, more efficient, way to do something? There are so many examples of this for other games, it would be silly to list them all.

The solution works, but may not be your preference. You can always positive vote more than one solution for an achievement. There is no reason to downvote something that works, especially if it is the fastest and easiest way to do it.

Whether you are banned on TA or from MS is irrelevant, I base my understanding of cheating on the definition of the word 'cheating', it's as simple as that.

Anything you do that gives you an unfair advantage over others, is cheating, whether you're banned or not. this includes, and without exception: glitching (in all of its forms), game-saving, profile sharing, modded consoles, modded controllers, modded software, MP boosting, idle boosting, code types (whether placed by developers or not), turbo pads and any other method of playing a game other than as it was intended; fairly and properly.

Hell I even consider it cheating when a game accidentally glitches in my favour. The reason I consider it cheating, is because it is cheating. Cheating is not a point of view up for debate, it has a solid unmovable definition, the reason people get confused on this site and on other's is because they mix up the term 'cheat' with the term 'bannable offence' - two completely different entities.

To confirm, I am not against any form of cheating that TA is not, although I do get annoyed by it in excess. I dislike people who start boosting the MP of a game on the day of release, it is unnecessary and excessive, I dislike it when people play games only to glitch them as much as possible, I dislike it when people cheat as a means of entertainment. Although I did, admittedly, fall into the world of achievements very deeply some years ago, and I will boost and glitch if necessary, I do not feel any pride for doing so. It has become a shameful necessity of gaming for me. I believe that many of us on TA have lost the true meaning of gaming, the real reason we all fell in love with it in the first place, to have fun!

Without realizing it we have fallen into an inescapable hole of achievements and statistics and forgot why we ever dug down so far. It is actually very sad we are even discussing this right now.

I love gaming, but really guys, take a look around at the real world and ask yourself 'how important is the definition of cheating, solution votes and arguing about them?'

Hell, Deevius? That's what I said and...But...But...Damn it.

"Necessity" and "gaming with fun" can't go together in my vocabulary. Gaming is fun. It can't be a necessity. All other things said in an exact form above me.

tornprince what i said was not directed at you :P Gaining an unfair advantage in a game like titanfall is cheating but its a single player game he can do what he wants it effects absolutely nobody.

I think le lone wolf is a legend for taking his time to make the solution that people can choose to use.

I don't get all of the negativity here. If you get it without the glitch, then congratulations, but if people get it with the glitch what's the big deal? Do you feel like it tarnishes your accomplishment, or do you just get off on telling people what they can and can't do? Seriously guys get off of your high horses. Let people play how they want to play. Don't be Bungie for Christ's sake.

Thumbs up from me Lone Wolf.

I understand the hate because of how difficult this achievement is when doing it completely normal, and the annoyance it must be for people who do it this way only to find out that there is a slightly easier way performed with a glitch. HOWEVER, someone like me who does not have the time, patience and skill to perform the deeds this achievement requires the normal way will look into ways to get this any way i can.

Does this undermine all the hard work those other people did 'legit'? Yes i does a little, does it make this less of a achievement if i'm not achieving it the normal and 'right' way? Yes it probably does to. Like it or not though, unless a method is patched or fixed and there is another way to obtain achievements i will use what method is most comfortable and easier for me. His method does not hurt anyone, or cause issues (after all it's a single player game) and he should be aloud to unlock the achievement if he fulfills the requires with whatever method is available.

If you unlocked this completely 'legit' then that is fantastic and enjoy your hard earned work and gamerpic! Otherwise shut up...

I upvoted this back when the solution came out, but i will mentally upvote it again because of all the stupid haters.

At the end of the day, he unlocked the achievement. To say he didn't earn it (or that he doesn't deserve to have certain profile pictures) is incredibly asinine and childish. At this point you guys are just bullying him.

The only way he wouldn't deserve claim for it would be if he used some hack to unlock it or if he bought the gamer tag and it was already there. But since neither is the case, he earned. He just did it a different way. Big deal.

It doesn't matter if it's Ninja Gaiden. How can you say he had no right to unlock this when most of you bashing him have boosted achievements? They weren't "legit", and by your arguments, you didn't deserve to unlock them.

It's a video game , and some of you need to take a good long look at yourselves for getting so worked up over something so meaningless.

This isn't actually the first this was posted as a solution in here. The other time it was reported heavily and it got deleted. In Wolf's defence, the glitch doesn't make the game stupidly easy. It perhaps lower the difficulty from Master Ninja to Mentor, mainly because boss fights need to be dealt just like before. On the other hand, chapter 11 becomes really easy because the problem is the sheer amount of enemies. I haven't beaten the game in this difficulty, but I can imagine that chapter 11 is way harder than in Mentor.
I believe that using the glitch may make you lack of skills to beat the trials, but that's another history.

Report it all you like. Glitches like this do NOT, in any way, fall foul of the site's https://www.trueachievements.com/cheatpolicy.aspx

All the people crying about it and giving the OP a hard time need to learn how to voice their opinions with more respect, otherwise they'll receive none in return.

I would honestly just delete the comments Bean (if you can even do that). It’s just pure bickering lol. It also paints a lot of well known people here (including one who’s now a newshound) in a negative light.

You need a balls of STEEL!
If you are someone who is sensitive to swearing or getting angry, don't try this! This mode will constantly make you swear and get angry!

Key Legend for Farming:
By the end of Chapter 1, you'll have enough karma to level up a weapon, basically you'll have 1000k (this is without farming).
If you Farm for 1000K- Allows you to upgrade a weapon. (you'll have 2000k at the end)
If you Farm for 2000k- Upgrade a weapon to its max (you'll have 3000k at the end)
If you Farm for 3000k- Upgrade a weapon to it's max and upgrade another to level 2 (you'll have 4000k at the end)

You need to farm some karma in Chapter 1, location the scene that looks similar to DOA4 (Kokoro's stage). Or a better description, when you perform the flying bird flip, you'll end up in a nice looking garden like, with blossoms falling off tree. A small boat is located by the river (remember now?).

Now if you leave the scene, you'll encounter ninja's that shoot arrows at you, do not proceed, just move slightly until they see you and start firing at you (they have 100% sharp accuracy). Just head back to the river side, 2 ninja's will come at you. Just kill them, go back to the ninja's shooting arrows, head back to the river area, and perform ultimate techs. Repeat this process, until you have 1000 worth to upgrade a weapon. (to make the farming faster, it's best to kill the 2 ninja's with Ultimate Techniques).

When I farmed, I only farmed 1000k just to upgrade 1 weapon. What I did was, I upgraded my Lunar to level 2 and Dragon Sword to level 2.
Believe me, I don't know what weapon you'll be comfortable with but.
If you can't stand farming 3000k, just farm 2000k or 1000k.

Now for the best weapon to you. If you'll be upgrading your Dragon Sword, it's best to level it up to lvl 3. If you'll be using Lunar, leveling it to lvl 2 is good enough, but you can level it to lvl 3. But I highly recommend you farm 3000k so you can level up your Dragon Sword to lvl3 and Lunar to lvl 2 (for people who never completed Ninja Gaiden/Black/Sigma in Very Hard+).

*USE ALL YOUR NINPON!
*You'll encounter lots of Ninja who'll throw exploding shuriken's at you. No, they will tag you with 5/6 explosives. So you can't dash to aviod getting hurt.
*You need to dismember their bodies to relieve yourself from constant rushing
*BACKTRACK back to Muramasa's shop to upgrade and buy weapons.
*You need to be cheap too! Flying swallows or Jump to a wall and attack
*Use your Izuna Drop!
*Use lots of Flying Swallow when surrounded by ninjas
*Use lots of Galtino Throw, it makes you invincible to attacks and explosives. (I rarely used mine)
*Use Piercing of the Void over enemies who surrounds you (Chapter 10, Stairs.)
*Never use Art of the Phenoix, it's a piece of trash! Don't upgrade it!
*Upgrade your Art of Fire! (fireball)
*Ninpon Fire (fireball) deals less damage on firey fiends.
*If you are not playing this for karma....RUN! Forget killing every enemies, just freaking RUN to the exit.
*Use 9 lives of the Gods! (the funny thing is, I never used a single one when I tried Master Ninja, I nearly went on coma).
*Always perform Wind Path
*The camera will make the game harder!
*The slow downs, freezes and lag will make the game harder!
*Slow down and freezes will occur in Chapter 2, when you fight at the Trail of Rods (good luck on that one!)
*You'll definitely need a good luck in Chapter 11...may you rest in peace there
*TRY AND SURVIVE! Murasama just got his recession and everything is BLOODY expensive! Buying a grain cost a lot, so try not to get too many red bars.
*Make sure you have some snacks, food or drinks ready when you'll fighting bosses. Because if they grab you, it'll take time for them to release you:/
*GOOD LUCK fighting the 2 Armadillos! Not only are they frustrating, the camera makes it harder!
*In the starting point of Chapter 11, RUN all the way to the cave, the ninjas will be queuing up (game slowing down too), just use your Piercing Void (automatic lock on). Yes it'll be a pain to try and get to the cave, because you'll heavily get tagged and game will slow down like HELL.
*Only use Y (heavy) attacks on Bosses!!!
*If you'll be using Lunar at level 2 from Chapter 1, good luck! Because it's really hard to perform izuna drop, it's best to use it at level 3.
*Watch out for 6 rocket man firer, use shurikens or arrows to disturb them!
*When you perform 360 Ultimate Tech with the Lunar stick against a small fiend or ninja, make sure you press Y at the end of the animation sequence, so Ryu can perform an Izuna Drop.
*There will be bats when you open up chests, so hold down Back Directional and press the Action button to open. This is prevent bats from appearing and allow essence to appear.
*Forget about Survival Mode, just run to the exit (speed run)
*Don't upgrade the Dual Katanas!

*Best weapons to use (especially for Bosses)
Lunar: Use 360 Ultimate Techniques!!! (works best on bosses and enemies)
Jump X,Y to perform Izuna Drop, even though you don't perform izuna drop, this move deals a HARD DAMAGE! (BEST FOR BOSSES!!!!!!!)

CLAWS: Wings of the Vermilion Bird: X+X+Directional+X+Y+Y+Y+Y (Ryu will strike, teleport, and perform 3 landing kicks (like DMC4 when Dante uses the gigamash, you press Jump and Melee). Jump towards an enemy, X , hold for a sec, Y (for Izuna Drop) (Useful for Ninja's!!!)

Kurisagama: Jump, X, Y. ENOUGH SAID! (This will do the job!)
Don't forget Circle (360), Y,Y,Y (Ryu will spin the kurisagama 360).

Only use the Tonfas in the Airship chapters when you fight those robot droids. And it's Ultimate Techniques are perfect for Ninjas. In fact you'll need this Tonfas for Chapter 8 and 9!

Is Chapter 10 the Jungle? Anyway, when you are fighting those Robots that hovers on the sea firing multi rockets at you. You need to get into the water and use your gating gun.

Just like what people say "Google is your friend". I say "the scythe is your friend). This baby will make the game quite easy! Use lots of level 2 ultimate techs.

Oh yea, you may even grow stress (white/grey) hairs when you are done with this game.

Here is my little guide on how to beat Master Ninja, It will just be some tips that you might find helpful.

UT: Ultimate Technique
OT: Obliteration Technique
FS: Flying Swallow.
GT: Galtino throw
LoTG: Life of a thousand gods
TorB: Talisman of rebirth

Learn Moves with iframes
The easiest move to do which have iframes is the GT. If an enemy is near a wall GT them and when they hit the wall a limb will fall off enabling you to do a OT which has iframes as well.

Every UT has loads of iframes so use them a lot.
Dashing gives you iframes.
The FS has a few iframes in it too.
Use wall attacks they will give you iframes.
Izuna Drop has iframes.

Without the use of iframes this game will be near impossible.

Learn how to chain UTs and practice doing on landing UTs (hold Y just before you land and you will start charging a UT instantly)

Absorbing essence while charging a UT will make the UT charge even faster but remember you will only get 30% of what the essence is worth if used for a UT.

Use your shuriken a lot they are very helpful and will stun smaller enemies allowing you to attack them.

With the dragon sword the xxy combo will almost always chop off an arm allowing for an easy OT
When you counter an enemy you will almost always chop off a body part allowing an easy OT.

Never upgrade the scythe past level 2 as the UT does not get anymore powerful at level 3.

Try and carry max items at all times. The chests that would normally give you items will now give you essence the value of the item that would have been in the chest., which is much more useful. Both for UTs and upgrading weapons.

Never use a ToRB because the chests that contain them will now give you 50k worth of essence. Very helpful al the end of chapter 5 and beginning of chapter 6.

Upgrade the Lunar Staff to level 3 as fast as you can its 360 UT is very useful for killing almost every enemy in the game. Also if you press y at the end of the UT you will do a Izuna Drop right after the UT.

NEVER try and fight enemies in the water you can put out the Gatling gun stay still and just mash B you will kill everything in the water with out getting hit.

Use save statues as much as you want, if you think you have done good go back and save.

Upgrade you fire nimpo first
Upgrade your Void nimpo second this will come in handy with the double dragons at the end of lvl 9. they will die with 2 hits each with a lvl 3 void.
If you have any more jewels left over then upgrade the wind blade nimpo. This will come in handy for chapter 11.

The double swords will completely murder the werewolf guys you can often kill 3 or 4 with just one UT, even without upgrading

Never open chests with bats in. these will kill you in seconds or take a load of health off.

With ghost fish chests you can just spam y with the lunar to kill the all.

Save your LoTG and your jewel of demon seal until you really need them they are ace and will refill your life or nimpo to the max and add some more on.

If you need blue or red essence stop using UTs it is highly unlikely you will get blue or red essence from the enemies you kill using the UT.

At the start of chapter 7 where the turrets are shooting at you ,if you walk forward, on the left and right hand side you will see some screws on the floor. If you stand on these you will be able to kill all the turrets without getting hit.

Always throw shurikens at the rocket launcher ninja and dash in a zig zag pattern towards them, to avoid getting hit.

For the zombie enemies try and shoot off their arms with the cannon on first using the bow, then dash up to them and do an OT. Or just throw a IS ( explosive shuriken) at them to blow
a limb off a and then OT them.

To kill the armadillo bosses you can stun lock them with ISs if you aim at their heads.

To kill the worm boss stay in a little cave at the side and keep on charging UTs you kill it. You might have to go in and out of the little cave to make it spawn again.

The big robots they take 4 or 5 hits with the scythe UT to kill. The little robots with the turrets will die with one hit of the fire nimpo if you get stuck..

To kill the electric robot weird things just keep on dashing away and doing scythe UTs on them.

To make the flying dragons fall to the floor throw a IS at them to blow off a leg or a arm then do a OT to kill them.

If you get stuck from an IS ninja hold block and wait until its just about to explode then dash out of the explosion. Or use a move that involves iframes to no get hurt. If all else fails spam the FS and hope for the best.

Don’t be afraid to use your nimpo its there for a reason, so use it.

You can dash through almost any attack in the game, Very useful for dashing through the laser from last boss, Then mess up his face with the scythe.

At the start of chapter 9 when you fight the hover bots. From the entrance go forwards to the first little hut straight ahead, on the outside of the hut there is a little corner you can stay in . This will make the whole fight a lot easier because the bots find it hard to hit you there.

To kill the worm things keep on jumping with the scyth and pressing yyy or do FS with the dragon sword.

Use corners to your advantage, remember you cant get hit through walls so always ran back behind a corner and charge a UT.

Another easy way to take on all the IS ninjas is to do the Izuna drop with the dragon claws pretty much all animation of doing it had iframes. It's done by jumping towards a ninja pressing x then holding y. Easy instant kill.

One thing I would note is that Izuna drops have a couple of recovery frames at the end where you are open to attack. Be careful doing them in bunches of red scorpions because they will whip you which takes off a HUGE amount of health.

Thats all I can think of right now Good Luck everyone :)

Sorry to poke a sleeping bear (it's been nearly 12 years since this was originally posted lol), but there are some things I would tweak or do completely different.

The Dragon Sword's XXY combo is great at delimbing ninja enemies. You can get a quicker OT off by doing XXYBY.

The Scythe's UT doesn't actually get stronger no matter how you level it. Level 3 Scythe is extremely important because it does a lot of raw damage and access to great combos.

What do mean never use a ToR? Yes you do get 50k essence when you open a chest, but ToR's are there for you to revive in a crucial moment. Essence is good, living is better.

I highly disagree with the order to level up your ninpo. Wind Blades should absolutely be first to level up to max. WB is terrible until max level, where at max level it is the best ninpo in the game. Maxed WB can outright kill a whole room of ninjas (and also outright kill any golden Van Gelfs that are flying), it's pretty insane actually. Plus a maxed WB can delimb all other enemies in the game except for worms and the red dinosaur dragon things, allowing for easy OTs. Inferno second since it's still a great ninpo, and can get you a few easy kills. Piercing Void third, it's good, but only against certain things (i.e. dragon bosses, Dagra Dai, bowling the ninjas in the staircase of chapter 10). You can opt to skip the last 2 JotDS if you want since Flame Phoenix is terrible outside of Elizabet's fight (where it can be ok)

You can also block the rockets. They'll break your guard on the hit, but it won't chip you. Dash to block is the best way at getting close to them.

For the zombies, you can do the same beginning part to shoot off their cannons, but shoot them again with a UT arrow. You get way more essence from a UT than an OT, plus you don't have to worry about getting grabbed.

The little robots with machine guns can easily get killed with just an XX from the Lunar. No idea why that simple combo does so much damage against them, but it does it.

The "electric robot weird things" are Marionettes. Windmill Shuriken UT will kill in one hit, but they like blocking. They may glitch out after being hit and you have to OT them on occasion. Also the forward Y attack with the Claws is great at delimbing them (like most other enemies), but they like to block it as well.

My solution is simple. I just beat MN tonight and the whole playthrough I used a guide on you tube made by a fellow named Reim. His guide is amazing, does every inch of the game(all the items and where to use them), and some amazing stategies. The only thing he doesn't go into detail with are the skulls. I'll leave a link for that though and this one is from GameFAQ's. Good luck and try to stay focused, this game will try to blind you with anger lol.

GameFaq's location guide by Zakaroth:

Reim's guide, this is the first part of many, many parts so open it in a new tab so u can play it as a series.

As the other two said this will take a lot of time and patience, but if you are finding a lot of difficulty with any fight it is often possible to run back to a save point, save, quit, load and the enemies will have despawned. Sometimes running back far enough also works (beginning of chapter 8). I also recommend essence famring on chapter 1 to at least 500K, this will allow you to fully level your preferred wepaons and should mean you're always able to restock on items.

I also found an incredibly detailed guide, it has item/chest locations, enemy spawns (including types and numbers) aswell as strategies for dealing with them.

You can turn on hurtless mode using a positive glitch,it may helps.

Here is the steps:

1 - Press the UP button to open weapons menu.
2 - Press the LEFT button and do not release it so the weapons wheel may rotate quickly.
3 - Both press the A and X button.
4 - If your weapon were disappeared,it indicates the glitch works. You will never get damage by any enemy.
5 - During hurtless mode you can no longer attack except JUMP and CARRY CUTTER(斷頭摔) so you can not defeat big monsters and bosses.
6 - To turn off hurtless mode just switch to any weapon.
7 - NOTICE : DO NOT SAVE THE GAME DURING HURTLESS MODE.
