The fastest way to improve your mastery of any weapon is in the New Game + , in the mission “Hunting Large Demons” (level 175) in the Kinki region.

There is only one enemy in this mission, the boss Onryoki, who is much stronger and more difficult than his brother from the first mission. All you need to do is just hit this boss with the right type of weapon. Since this is a boss, and a high-level one at that, your skill will accumulate much faster than in a fight with ordinary enemies. The speed of leveling up your skill depends on the number of hits you deal, and not on the amount of damage dealt, so the fastest way to level up your skills will be kusarigama (with the “reaper” skill) and double katanas (with the “water sword” skill), because they deal a lot of fast, but weak blows. With a spear, katana and axe, leveling up will take longer, but still very fast, because you don’t need to go anywhere. Always use a low stance to throw more punches in less time.

I advise you to equip a weapon with the lightning element, as it slows down the enemy and you will have more time to attack. Stay behind the boss's right leg and attack. If you die, it doesn’t matter, just start over, the main thing here is to just beat the boss. Over time, you will learn how to kill this boss with any weapon and memorize all his moves. Use your favorite talismans and pills (such as Talisman of Sloth, Exhaustion, Strength Pills, Defense Increase Talisman, etc.) to give yourself more time to try.

And don’t forget, to complete a mission in the dojo you need 500 thousand skills, you don’t have to level it up any further.

Also, if you learn how to kill the boss while you are leveling up your skill, you will also receive a trophy for completing ten missions with a partner, because an NPC helps you in this battle.

A small addition.
Youkai become campers if you buff them by 2 elements. After that, they turn into a whipping doll.
We lubricate the weapon with any element other than the guardian spirit, use the talisman of the guardian spirit, Kato will be most convenient, it is easier for them to hit.

Available after completing the fifth region mission: "Eternal Flame". The task will appear in the Dojo. To access it you need 500,000+/999,999 katana mastery..

It seemed to me easier and more fun to do similar tasks in NG+ on the first Demon Island (level 180). Clearing a village gives ~500k skill.

If there are not enough scrolls to achieve the trophy, as was the case, I didn’t have enough to upgrade an ax and two swords and a spear. We use the book for resetting skill points. And we pump up the scrolls of those weapons for which the trophy has not yet dropped.

Simply winning a duel and gaining access to esotericists is not enough. We need to pump samurai points into them. Each (there are two) requires 7 points. It is enough to pump into one of them for the trophy to pop out. Samurai points are obtained by using weapons (they are given for passing a certain compatibility threshold several times for pumping up that same compatibility), for pumping up levels (for example, for pumping up a Skill), when using samurai locks (collective item).

To win the given duel, I advise you to use a middle stance and often intercept the blow and then stick the sword into the back (L1+weak blow -> weak blow). This will knock off all the enemy's stamina and you will be able to inflict very noticeable damage with the grab.
