How to unlock the To Live Forever achievement in No Man's Sky - Definitive Guide
Updated version for the OMEGA update released in Feb. 2024:
The hardest part in permadeath is the very beginning. Once you have stabilized and have access to resources, tools and a ship, it's mostly a matter of time to get this achievement, provided you don't make a fatal mistake (overconfidence, as in all permadeath games, is the true killer here).
To drastically speed up your journey to the centre of the Galaxy, you will need to find the first portal glyph (Sunset). Once you have it, find a Monolith, then a Portal, and simply enter the Sunset glyph 12 times in a row, filling the coordinates. You will reach a planet very near the center of the galaxy, and it should only take you a couple jumps to reach your final destination. This will save you a couple dozen/hundred jumps from black hole to black hole!

At a high level, the goal is to reach the Center of the Galaxy while playing in Permadeath Mode. Some settings in Permadeath Mode can be lowered, but you need to keep Permadeath (Save Deleted) active. Skip all side content and missions and stick with the main story until you unlock the Anomaly. Locate and find a translucent alien on a space station, give it 100 Nanites to receive coordinates to an unknown grave, and find a glyph. Use the glyph at a portal to warp close to the center of the galaxy. Then, warp the rest of the way in your ship.

Permadeath Tips
Save often. Exiting your ship will trigger a save, so jump in/out of the ship often to save progress.
Keep at least 100 Nanites on you at all times until after you’ve talked with the translucent traveler.
Maintain a stash of core minerals: Carbon, Oxygen, Sodium, Ferrite Dust, and Tritium.
Avoid attacking any creatures or ships. Don’t press A/X through dialog too fast or you may accidently fire at the end of a transmission.
Don’t provoke sentinels. Avoid them and don’t mine anywhere near them.
Skip all side content and missions. If you run across broken machinery and boxes, go ahead and collect their contents.
Try to land and take off from outposts and trading posts to reduce fuel consumed.
Don’t forget to upload discoveries for extra Nanites.
Space Stations
Check all rooms of every space station for the translucent traveler and give it 100 Nanites (2nd conversation).
Always upgrade inventory slots and check for Encrypted Navigation Data.
Crafting & Upgrades
Only craft items and purchase blueprints/modules that are necessary to reach the Galactic Core.
Analysis Visor
Portable Refiner
Terrain Manipulator
Base Computer
Basic Base
Construction Research Unit
Base Teleport Module
Biofuel Reactor
Haz-Mat Gauntlet
Efficient Thrusters
Launch Auto-Charger
Alien Relic
Activate the Commercial Cartographic Data charts and follow them to their destinations until you find a Trading Post. Land at the trading post and interact with each of the pilots that land. You will need to purchase a specific item that corresponds with the dominant alien species in the system.
You will need stacks of elements to unlock the 16 glyphs at the local portal. Each glyph requires materials from 1 of 4 buckets and each bucket is used 4 times. Many elements may be mined or purchased on space stations or from trading posts.

Permadeath Survival Tips for Non-Speedrunners
As of DESOLATION update.
Spoilers are hidden, but there will still be some. I assume that you have some knowledge of the game.
The primary goal of this achievement is to basically "clear" the game by reaching the center of the galaxy. This is already covered by many online sources, so here are some other tips that would be useful for Permadeath, in particular.
- Backup your save file despite this being permadeath. I understand that this is considered savescumming and is highly dishonorable when we play permadeath/hardcore/ironman games, but for a rapidly developing title like No Man's Sky, this is necessary due to high presence of game glitches that are potentially lethal.
- For some reason, the game's start is extremely difficult, more so than Survival mode. Ignore game prompts and do what you should do to survive. Look for yellow patches of sodium plants. Worry about resource drilling later. You need your sodium. (In real life, be sure to drink plenty and eat balanced food! In addition to the Traveller[!], YOU also need sodium!)
- Pack tons of money by using Cobalt Crash. Farm nanites efficiently by taking "open missions" from stations. I won't elaborate on this as it's equally applicable to Survival (I'll write another guide).
- Be extremely conservative and as hand-off as possible. Buy when you can. Mine if it's safe. Fight for it if you really have to.
- Do NOT explore derelicts or play with any new game features. AVOID using exo-vehicles as much as you can. I lost one save because I somehow snapped around in a derelict and died.
- Always watch your step when walking. For some reason (Murphy's Law?), I keep walking into sinkholes when I'm not looking properly.
- Offense is the best defense. Upgrade your boltcaster and mining beams. The sooner you finish a fight, the better the survival chances.
- The Nexus is a waste of time and is generally not needed, especially if you're speedrunning. You can get nanites by mission farming or talking to Helios.
- Pack rat as much as you can. The more resources you can hold, the less you have to disembark on hostile planets.
- Do the Atlas path. Given the 10 jumps required by Atlas, it's less time compared to having to pop into the Anomaly every time you
.
- You can shoot at ferrite rocks, some plants, most animals, and Sentinels from your ship. Nose down and rain hell like it's Vietnam. This also means you can complete "raid depot" missions with minimal risk.
- Remember that you need a full tank of Hyperdrive to move from the Gateway to the Centre of the Galaxy.

Described a method on how to get this trophy. (the method became obsolete after teleports were added to the game. Read the tips below)

The fastest way is to join another player who is near the center of the galaxy. I described it in more detail here .

I started this trophy after getting platinum on standard difficulty, I was familiar with the mechanics and everything. The information in the tip will be suitable for those familiar with the game.
I would like to add the following important points:
I would like to add the following important points:
- The quest "The Path of the Atlas" is truly the shortest path to the center. Don’t be distracted by others, immediately try to fly around all the Atlas interfaces, collecting seed drawings, simultaneously creating a seed in preparation for the long flight to the center. In the 11th interface, create a new star. That's it - black holes are available!
- From the very beginning of the game, I quickly earned money for a new ship and multitool. He made money by selling technology from excavated cells. I don't know a better way.
- I bought an inexpensive multitool, with 13 cells, and in addition to the plasma thrower and landscape manipulator, I installed an advanced splitter and a yellow scanner improvement module (to receive 20-110 thousand units for discovering new species). Everything else is not needed
- the ship is the most important thing. Choose one with a large number of cells in the technology compartment and place all the modules there - there they will not fail when flying through black holes! I put three drives there for indium, emeril and cadmium, and most importantly - three yellow hyperdrive upgrade modules. Thanks to this, my jump was 805 sv.l. And the consumption was 5% of the engine energy for 1 jump (1 warp cell for 4 jumps).
- Detigo advised saving in front of black holes and repairing modules. I consider this a waste of time. Only modules that are in the main cargo compartment are broken, as well as only those that can be disassembled using a button . I had these too: a rocket launcher, a phase beam and an improvement in take-off accelerators. After the start of a purposeful flight to the center, they broke for me and that’s it: I didn’t fix them, and nothing else broke (everything I needed was in the technology compartment!). Just without unnecessary actions: jump to a black hole - jump through a black hole - jump to another black hole - etc.
- in the end it took me about 35-40 warp cells to play. 25 - for the main flight, the rest - for the beginning of the game and the final flight. At the end, after 12-15 thousand light years, my black holes stopped working. I don’t know if it should be like this or not, but I flew this distance simply by warps. The last flight to the center requires a full hyperdrive tank, also take this into account.
- To purchase upgrade modules, I actively accumulated nanites: I opened species, and also received them from Nada for progressing through the stages.

1) There is nothing complicated about the trophy. If you die, then quickly close the game and load the last save.
2) For a quick passage, select the “Path of the Atlas”. It is needed in order to see black holes on the galactic map (at the end of the chain we abandon the quest and leave (you can continue it at any time)).
3) If you cannot activate some Atlas interface (there are not enough “Important Steps”), then simply fly to the Anomaly and ask for the coordinates of the next interface.
4) The fastest honest way to get to the core is black holes (really?).
5) Slightly increase the rating of the races to open tasks.
Take the same type of tasks to kill animals, predators, guards, scan plants and minerals. Fly to the planet and complete them en masse (on average it turned out to be 1.5 - 2 million units and about 1k nanites.
You can also buy locally produced goods at the terminals and sell them at your next stop (in 90% of cases you will be able to sell them with profit).
6) Atlas schemes must be crafted one at a time, and not carry all the crafted “balls” with you.
7) Have you arrived on the outskirts of the center of the galaxy and cannot focus on the center and press “Warp” as usual?
7a) Refuel the warp engine.
7b) Turn on the galactic map, but do not switch to free view.
7c) Turn on the goal “Towards the core of the galaxy”.
7d) Use the stick to find the core of the galaxy and use the other stick to press in the direction of the core. A filling circle appears, we agree and
