How to unlock the I Regrow Nothing achievement in Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee HD - Definitive Guide

Missable!
To obtain this trophy you must do so on an Angelic Quarma playthrough. There will be moments where you cannot earn enough Spooce to proceed without rescuing Scrubs or Fuzzles, so this shouldn’t be done on a Black Quarma run.

Raisin’s Cave is the first level of the game, where you need to regenerate at least two SpooceShrubs to have enough Spooce to open the door. After this level, do not regenerate any shrubs after you have already collected them.

To regenerate a shrub, you need to stand near one and hold down both and together. These are the same buttons you hold to create a possession orb, so it’s very important that when you are going to possess an enemy you make sure that you are nowhere near any shrubs. There are plenty of SpooceShrubs in the game to proceed without having to regenerate any. Remember that you also earn Spooce for rescuing Scrubs and Fuzzles. If for any reason you have used all the Spooce in a level and cannot proceed, you will have to either restart the level or load an earlier save.

This trophy will unlock after the ending cutscene.

Glitch note
Despite being 100% certain that no SpooceShrubs were regenerated, most gamers are reporting that the trophy has not popped for them. At this time there is still no definitive answer as to how or why this trophy glitches. The developers released Patch 1.01 on the 18th February 2014 on PS3 to fix this issue, so make sure you download this patch before you load up the game. This patch is already included in the Vita version.

However, there are users reporting that the trophy is still not popping. Fortunately there are two possible workarounds:

Workaround #1 - PS3 users

  • Delete the Configuration Data and the game itself from your hard drive, but do not delete your game saves.
  • Download the game again from your Download List on the PlayStation Store. You will need to download the Trial and then the Full Game unlock.
  • Start up the game but do not download the patch.
  • Load the save that you made in Vykkers Suites. This is the save near the end of the game that you made after rescuing the final Egg Crates.
  • Complete the rest of the game and the trophy should pop.

Essentially you are using a post-patch save with a pre-patch game. This workaround worked for me on PS3.

Workaround #2 - Vita users and if Workaround #1 didn't work

  • Delete all saves. Wipe out every existence of this game!
  • Download the game again from your Download List on the PlayStation Store. You will need to download the Trial and then the Full Game unlock.
  • Start up the game, download all patches., complete an entire playthrough from scratch.
  • In Raisin's Cave, regrow the first SpooceShrub you collect twice to get the 50 you need to complete the level. Do not regrow any others!
  • Act as if you are doing Step 1 from the Roadmap. Don't skip any cutscenes, listen to what the Mudokon guide has to say, don't use Munch's wheelchair.
  • Make manual saves only. Do not use the Quiksave option.

Whilst this can be frustrating and is not clear if using the wheelchair or skipping cutscenes has any affect (it certainly shouldn't), this is what I did on Vita and it worked for me.

As mentioned, there is no explanation as to why this trophy glitches. These workarounds have proven to work for some people and they did for me. Hopefully they will for you as well!
