When I got to the point of no return (after getting all 3 blue keys but before going to Shadow Gate) I had 4 of 8 music boxes without even looking for them. I found this video showing me where the ones I missed were, which were coincidentally the first 4 in the video.

make sure you are following a guide (most of them are pretty good from what i've seen) if you want to avoid replaying the entire game (especially in regards to the castaways)

There are 10 castaways and 8 music boxes to find in Olija. This video lists them in chronological order. Additionally, the final collectible is located behind a Dark Door, which is a special type of area you can only visit once. If you completed the Dark Door area and missed this collectible, you will need to start a new playthrough. And after defeating the final boss the game deletes your save file, so be sure to backtrack after collecting the third blue key in the story.

The best tip I can give is to pay attention to the music in all the rooms you visit. If you can hear a Music Box then there's one close by. If you're in a dungeon area and you hear one make sure to get it before you leave since most of them close up after you complete them. I think there was only 1 music box in an area that gets sealed off.
Also if you don't miss any then the last one will be on the big island you go to after acquiring the Moon Blade (or sword, I forget). If you didn't notice you can see the number you've collected from the pause screen.

There are eight music boxes in the game, and several of them are very well hidden. Below you will find a video guide for each of them. Towards the end of the game, you're told that Olija's ship was attacked and you're supposed to go looking for her. This is the game's point of no return, so keep in mind that you need to have these collectibles done before that level if you want to avoid a second playthrough.
