How to unlock the Tech Boy achievement in ORBIT - Definitive Guide

To unlock the "Tech Boy" achievement you must upgrade all three of the SHIP SPECIFIC powers. You do not need to upgrade the common powers (cannon, system, engines).

The required skills to upgrade are:
- SHIELDS
- WARP
- BALLISTA

The fastest way to upgrade each system is to fully upgrade one at a time (they will appear to be reset after each full game, but they are tracked on the achievement tracker). I would suggest playing the following game loadout as I found it to be the fastest:

- choose FORGE
- choose 4 ROUNDS
- select ANNIHILATE (on first bar)
- select TOURNAMENT (on second bar)
- press "X"
- set Orbits (-)
- set Size (+)
- set Speed (+)
- set Gravity (-)

Start the game and select the appropriate ship type to access the SHIP SPECIFIC power.

Using your 2nd controller, dive the 2nd player into the circle or orbits to kill them. After five (5) deaths and the round is over.

Upgrade the SHIP SPECIFIC power in between rounds. Repeat with the remaining other ship types to unlock.

The are 5 columns of upgrades;
Cannon
System
Engines
Shield
Warp
NOTE: You get 4 at a time; Shield and Warp alternates between games.
Each of them have 3 locked items.
All you have to do is unlock each...and it's cumulative.
Go to forge, any mode (I used Destroy and Tournament), 4 rounds and set attributes to (-) by pressing "X". After each round the upgrade menu comes...upgrade and start the next match. I advise you upgrade one whole column at a time to keep track. After upgrading the last column after multiple plays, achievement pops. Enjoy.

EDIT: Priest Crow suggests "each ship has it's own unique upgrade" so select and play with all ships just incase and especially if the achievement counter gets stuck.

No you don't....and yes they'll reset after every game. Just keep track of what you've upgraded before and move to a new category. You can't upgrade all at once, they system keeps track of what tree you've fully upgraded so just keep track and don't worry about resetting. After upgrading the final one achievement will pop. You doing everything right.

Each Ship has its unique upgrades. You mentioned shield and warp, but you missed balista. They don t cycle between games, you just have to choose each ship according to the upgrades you still need

Really? I used one ship to upgrade all trees. I didn't really try out the other ships.

Yup, 3 upgrades repeat between ships, and then each ship has its unique upgrade. Thats why i was stuck on 66% achievement progress

Does the achievement app not keep track of any progress? Even the trees that I've already maxed out?

Just got the achievement and Priest Crow is right, you have to use all three ships.
The abilities "Engines", "System" and "Cannon" are available for all three ships, but then you have "Shield" for the Shield ship, "Warp" for the Warp ship and "Ballista" for the - surprise! - Ballista ship.
I'm even guessing the 3 ship specific abilities might suffice for the achievement, considering they give a 33% on the tracker. Anyone willing to try?

I can confirm that you only need to fully upgrade the ship specific attribute for each of the three ships for the achievement. So you really only need to fully upgrade three rows total, once for each ship specific attribute. Took about 15 minutes.
