How to unlock the Elite Recon achievement in Order of Battle: World War II - Definitive Guide

There may be other ways to get this but this is the best way I found.

Play the Blitzkrieg campaign (included with basegame I believe) and select the easiest difficulty.
As soon as possible buy yourself a recon vehicle, preferrably the SdKfz 232 8Rad. If this isn't available early on, just get the most expensive one you can, the SdKfz 222 but bear in mind you should upgrade to the 232 8Rad as soon as you can.

This is a very good unit guide with stats and their meanings.

Now with this recon vehicle you want to be using it for mopping up units that are at around 1 - 2 strength, usually those retreating from an assault, while your main force carries on it's thrust. It takes a bit of practice but generally keep that recon with your assault force of infantry, tank etc, don't let it get too forward. Use it to pick off units like a scavenger until it gets some more experience.

It will gain experience initially VERY slowly I found, compared to other units. I think after the first three scenarios of Blitzkrieg my recon was still at 0.5 or 1 star. After six scenarios it was up to 2.5 then as it gets stronger and you can be more bold, the exp gain seems to get more.

I got it up to 4.5 stars by the end of the Yugoslavia scenario, and finally got the five stars in Greece, which is around scenario 9 out of 12.

It's very important that you buy the recon vehicle early on. Note that units that you purchase become your "core" units, which stay with you for the duration of the campaign, unlike other transient units which come and go without any control.

Rolling Units Over from Campaigns

It's possible to finish Blitzkrieg and import your core force into a new campaign, therefore preserving at least some of the experience gained.

You can play Blitzkrieg -> PanzerKrieg -> Endskrieg in this fashion. You'll get an experience penalty though which is a real pain. I think in the export from Blitzkrieg to Panzerkrieg you take a 50% exp penalty, but that it's less when transitioning to Endskrieg.

So if you finish Blitzkrieg and your unit is at 4.5 stars, don't despair.... you will however have to fork out money for other DLC to continue your quest. This is why these achievements are a bit cheeky, they do need DLC really. For example, the five star an artillery in one campaign isn't doable. I'm at scenario nine in Blitzkrieg and my arty is at 1 star. It may take 2 DLCs to five star it.

Any questions please PM me. There isn't a lot of info about this game other than the forums which I will list here for reference:
