Some of the collectibles have changed from the original (aka switched to a new location), so I have made a new video for the Definitive Edition.

There are a total of 15 Energy Cells, 12 Life Cells, 33 Ability Cells, 12 Spirit Wells, and 9 Map Stones in the game. There are 45 Secret Areas.

Seasoned Explorer unlocks after finding 23 of them, and No Stone Unturned unlocks after finding all 45. Below is a video showing every collectible in the game including Secret Areas, in chronological order according to the earliest you can obtain them. I suggest waiting until you have Stomp to go to Black Root Burrow as you need it to access the lower area.

Edit: for whatever reason despite my extensive experience with this game, while playing on Switch to hit 1million gs I missed area #18. Seems like its an easy one to miss since no collectibles are inside.

Thanks for your effort! I'm currently stuck at 98%, with all cells, and map stones collected, Map shows 100 % for all regions. So i assume i missed a secret area without a cell or map stone?

Yeah C4B you probably missed a secret area or two. This achievement is not glitchy in the definitive edition, always registers secret areas.

I'm re-uploading the video with a 45th secret area that did not register on my tracker's %, but it is definitely a secret area. It's in the lower-right room of Mt Huru, directly above one of the last couple secret areas in this video. IIRC it is the same room as Secret #43 in this vid. It didn't register on the tracker on the dummy account that I used to make this video so I didn't include it, but I decided it is best to include it anyway.

Ok it unlocked for me, the achievement is definatly bugged.
I was missing one secret area in Hollow Grove, which was #23 in your video. Whenever i reloaded the game, the small spirit cell in the tree was still there, so it didn't register that i picked it up. I got it finally by saving exactly at the spot where the cell spawns, force closing the game from the dashboard a reload my save. Popped right after the loading screen!

That's very strange. I've done No Stone Unturned on three different accounts and every secret area has registered the first time I entered it on all 3 accounts. Maybe your connection lagged out for a second the first time you picked that one up and it made it wonky. Glad you got it :)

Probably a long shot, but a list of secrets that don't correspond with either items that appear on the map (with appropriate upgrades) or places you have to go to progress or unlock areas (i.e. hidden switches and such) would be super handy.

Ok, well that wasn't as bad as I thought. If you are at 100% map and all marked items, watch the secrets only video and look for the large seeds to explode and then reset Misty Woods and get the ones there you may have missed!

You have to pick up EVERYTHING, all ability cells, life cells, energy cells, and the orange spirit energy orbs (experience orbs). There are no ability cells in the ginso tree, but there are some of those orbs to pick up and each one increases your %. You can replay every area of the game. To replay misty woods, you just interact with the statue at the start to reset it. Everywhere else, you can just go back.

My girlfriend is playing this and is stuck on 99% for Hollow Grove. She has went through every secret area and gotten all the collectibles in this area. Any chance it is not registering something? What would be the best thing to do?

P.S. Welp she just got this achievement, but is still stuck at 99% on Hollow Grove so it conflicts with the 100% map achievement.... Why is this?

No stone unturned is just secret areas. 100% map exploration requires you to fill in some nooks and crannies that arent secret areas. If she used the map stone and revealed the map, odds are there is a very small sliver of map somewhere she didnt pass through, or an orb that she didnt grab. It can be a simple as not jumping up into a corner of a few of the rooms.

Yeah you can replay every area of the game any time, even after beating the game. For Misty Woods, you have to interact with the statue near the beginning to 'reset' the area back to its pre-finished state. All of the other areas, including Ginso and Forlorn, you simply go back to them.

Any idea if this is glitched the way the first one was? Where you can just reload a secret, re-kindle the save point and reload over and over?

It is, yes, but if youre going for 100% map completion achievement you need to get all the secret areas anyway. That glitch was really only for the purpose of fixing the broken No Stone achievement tracker.

JORAX mentioned above a potential list of areas that don't correspond with pickups on the map. I think that's a really great idea, since I've picked up every possible collectible and am still at 98% for this one. Pinning down those two/three potential problem rooms for people would definitely save a lot of trouble in the future. Nice video by the way!

Edit: The one that I missed was in the Ginso Tree, it was #11 in the second video and that one doesn't show up on the map or anything. Thanks for the help. :)

Some of the secret areas that dont have a life or energy cell or a spirit energy orb dont count toward map completion. I would suggest following through my video and revisiting all 45 areas (save misty woods for last) and keep the achievement app snapped to monitor progress.

I see a few missables on this, but I see that you can go back to the areas that you couldn't in the first. Are they only marked as missable because you need a save prior to completing the game, or what makes this and a few others actually missable?

I had 100% map discovered and was missing one secret. It ended up being secret #27. The third secret in Misty Woods. I didn't even have to go to the actual spot. I was just in the general area and the achievement popped.

It's definitely possible for some areas not to count it seems. I had the cliche 100%'d everything but was missing one secret area. I was following the video showing just the secret areas, and the achievement popped for me on secret area #20 which is an underwater tunnel in Black Root Burrows that leads to an Ability Point. I already had the ability point so had already been there, yet going there this time got me the achievement.

Recheck all the secret areas. Sometimes they dont register on the %. Also check the spots on the maps I made in the walkthrough that are circled in red, as those are commonly missed spots. And make sure you got every single orange spirit energy (experience) orb, as those count.

The maps and the walkthrough are absolutely great and helpfull. However I visited again the secret areas and the "red circle" areas and the tracker still is 99%. Idk what im missing. Ill retry on my second playthrough though.

EDIT: I finally did it.. I picked up an Ability Cell which is on Black root Borrows area originally, but registered an 1% on Grotto area. Lol that was weird but ok. Thanks for all your help!

The achievement is not glitchy but can be a little inconsistent with regards to when it registers a secret area. I had to follow your video and revisited a few areas I've already been to before it popped. I'm not sure what happened there, but it looks like the first time I visited certain secret areas it never registered.

May have glitched in my favor. I got this before 45 secrets. Right at start of Mount Horu when in the guide I had 4 left to find. No idea what I did.

Fantastic solution, clear videos.
The secret area you marked as "???" as you did not think it registered any progress. This one definitely registered progress for me, I had my achievement tracker on.
Also, I struggled to work out how to get the Misty Woods areas to reappear. It might be worth explaining that you need to activate the shrine again for these areas to be accessible. [EDIT: I see this has been covered in the comments, but might still be beneficial to include in the main solution].

I've literally checked the Secret Areas video twice and the achievement's tracker is still at 97%. I've collected everything and got all areas to 100%. What the hell am I missing?

I had everything done to 100% but this ach was stuck at 44/45. It was number 18 in the secrets video which triggered the ach to pop for me. If anyone else has the same issue, check out number 18 and it might work for you too.

I've done 100% is the map, unlocked all achievements (life, skills and energy cells) any still I am stuck at 97% to unlock this achievement!

You probably missed some secret areas or spirit orbs. The orange spirit orbs count toward 100% exploration in the Definitive Edition (they didnt in OG Ori).

Correction: If you are just referring to this achievement for finding the 45 (46 if you count the one in my video I mention not tracking for me), one or two secret areas didnt register. Revisit each secret area in one sitting to ensure you hit all 46.

there is a list of secret places that have no itens? it would shorten the list of possible locations (the counter says that i have found 44/45)

I only have 46 in the video and folks have said the 46th (the one I wasnt sure if it counts right before Mt Horu) counted for them. I unlocked this achievement following this video on 3 tags so I know it works. You may have went in and out of a secret area too fast for it to register, perhaps in the misty woods.

For me the last one was #10 in the Ginso Tree. Better go for it when you progress normally as backtracking through the Ginso Tree is no fun.

If it helps, my last % wasn't in the video.
In the Ginso Tree, you have to destroy a wall with a bullet and there are 2 blocks to help you but since you only need one to destroy the wall if you push the block to the teleporter the bullet passed.
I had to go back on the top in the small area where is the second block to unlock the last missing %.

#43 for me in the walkthrough map, Mount Horu. It's just a blue orb you break so I overlooked it when hunting collectibles.

I was missing #18 as well. I had been in there but it's just a big blue plant that you have to use charge flame to break open. If you don't do this, the secret won't count. As soon as I burst it, I got the achievement.

Also I didn't see this mentioned anywhere, but you can still obtain 100% map completion without getting all the secrets. I had two achievements glitch on me (saving at all the portals and obtaining all the life orbs) so I thought this was glitched too as I was convinced I had done all the secrets. Just wanted to save someone the trouble of replaying through the game for the secrets if it wasn't necessary.

This unlocked 3 secrets early for me, I've only just cleared the top level of Mt Hour so haven't reached the ones further down yet. The other one for half the secrets also unlocked early. There are a couple of secret areas mentioned in the walkthrough that supposedly don't count but perhaps they do.

The devs may have tweaked it to make it slightly easier to ensure it pops. They all counted for me and unlocked at the expected spots, but who knows lol. Better safe than sorry. :)

You can reenter the shrouded sections of the Misty Woods (containing #24-#27) by interacting with the lantern statue thingy, thus making nothing missable. It popped 2 early for me, I didn't collect #26 or #27

Hi again. I did 100% at Ginso Tree. However im stuck at 99% at Moon Grotto. I picked everything (I have unlocked the skills in the middle tree that show everything on the map, except the secret areas). Am I missing something?

Okay, cleared cache, deleted reserved space and so on and popped the 100% visited of the map misteriously by visiting one already uncovered secret, but "no stone unturned" stills at 97%, so... glitched. Clap clap clap.

I didn't know this, but the Misty Woods unlit versus lit yield different maps and have their own secret locations. I found the ones in the unlit version of the map and it popped

#27 is definitely one to check out if you're missing a secret. It's just a passthrough and there isn't an item in it. There's an item nearby that you have to light a lamp to open a door to collect, but you could easily not see or use the secret path just above that door.

I was also stuck at 44/45 - after getting thoroughly lost in the Misty Woods again (to no avail) - I watched the video up to 10:35. After #38, the top says Secret ??? - this did not increase No Stone Unturned for me.

Well, I can tell you that after blowing up that blue lump, my achievement popped - so, yes, that very much is a secret.
