Wanted to give you guys everything I know about this (which is mostly obvious if you've tried it).
Note: Some users have reported that pressing A before the end dialogue is complete stops the unlock. Just in case, don't press anything until the ach unlocks or you are sent back to the main menu after finishing Mt Horu.
NOTE: If you die and the game starts you back at the beginning, quit out and delete that save file before re attempting this. If a death registers on an attempt that save file will never be able to unlock the achievement so it is important to start a new save file before continuing.
1. Yes, you can save your game, so it doesn't have to be done in one sitting.
2. You cannot make a backup of your save like the other modes. If you try, it just moves it.
3. You dont have to be online when you finish the game. This is hit or miss though. If you finish the game offline and this doesn't unlock when you reconnect, try closing the game and deleting the reserved space. Don't delete your player data, just the reserved space. Then relaunch the game while connected to live and see if that pops it. If not, you may have to re-do it, or at least re-complete the final escape while online.
4. If you're struggling, play offline until you've made 10-15 minutes of progress. Reconnect to live, save your game, then close the game and re-launch it. Load your game and save once more (to ensure your save syncs with live). Go offline again and try to make some more progress. If you die while offline, just delete your local save file (and the 1gb of reserved space, just in case). Reconnect to live and launch the game to re-sync with the older save file on live, then go offline to try again. I have confirmed that this method works.
5. If you happen to die while connected to live, pause IMMEDIATELY when you die, before the game over/retry screen comes up. Dashboard and delete your save data and the reserved space. Launch the game and re-sync with live, and if you're lucky you'll have the last synced data instead of starting over. See Razorpriest's comments below for confirmation that this *can* work.
6. Try to do this legit, even if you cheese it for the achievement. There is nothing more satisfying than completing this game on One Life mode without dying, without using any crutches.
Successful run starts at 1:34:30.
And just for extra reference material, a 100% completion speedrun on One Life.

^If you play online and die there is no guarantee that will quit out fast enough, but if you are good about it you should be fine.
The safe suggestion is to play primarily offline, while popping online to save periodically so you always have a true backup save.

Once again congrats man. It definitely takes a lot of skill to get through the game without dying. I mean immortal was hard enough in the original and we had a crutch in that we could use our save file.
If there is no work around then I don't think I will even attempt this. I don't think I suck at Ori but I am no pro either. I can't imagine getting far and messing up during one escape sequence or boss encounter.

It's doable for anyone. I died almost 300 times the first time I played the game. Going for 0 deaths on the original, I got all the way to Mt Huru and died less than 10 minutes from the end of the game like 7 or 8 times. Going for this achievement, I did that again (died on Mt Huru, less than 10mins from the end). Luckily, I got it my 2nd try (still shocked at that) but it's doable if you're even modestly skilled at platformers.
I can't do the iceless sequence break that speedrunners do. I haven't even TRIED to do early Sorrow Pass (skip forlorn ruins). I am not a pro at this game. Just took lots of practice. I encourage everyone to at least try. :)

maybe I missed it but you can do One Life on Easy difficulty, right?

By The SCHWARTZ 00 on 11 Mar 2016 19:30
No, it's a separate difficulty. There's Easy, Normal (same as original Ori), Hard, and One Life.
One Life is played on Normal difficulty, but it is its own difficulty mode, so you can't change it.

So I beat the whole game using this method, I got Immortal but this one didn't unlock. It says I have 0 death and all. I even recompleted the final sequence a couple times. Gotta do it legit I guess ;)
Note: I was offline so it might be why it didn't unlock yet.

I'll let you know if it unlocks later, like it does when unlocking offline achievements sometimes.

Hrmmm, if Immortal unlocked it registered the game completion, so if Unhinged didn't unlock then it might be voided if the save state is overwritten at any time. Maybe they did plan ahead for people going offline, lol. Will wait till more folks confirm before noting it in solution.

Positive you selected One Life Difficulty correct? I know that totally seems obvious but I could see myself jumping right to Easy to try this and totally missing the extra mode.

I have to say good job on being the first, I actually got it on my 3rd try (I hate the lasers in forlorn). I also noticed that the game really doesn't realize you have completed it unless you have watched the entirety of the end credits/ cut-scene without skipping. I don't know if this effects the achievement if you're offline (it shouldn't), but scores sometimes don't get posted on the leader-boards if you don't watch them though online. My save game didn't turn golden when I completed it which was weird too.

That may have just glitched for you mate. I always skip the end scene and quit out at the credits and my time always posts.

So I unlocked the achievement doing the achievement legit. So they might have done something so it's unobtainable offline or something. But you're wrong with the quitting. I confirm 100% that I quit over at least 20 times during my playthrough. Anytime I knew I'd die or if I felt uncomfortable with my remaining health I'd just quit.

Maybe it was just bad luck. At least it didn't glitch on the legit playthrough.
When you go offline, it tells it in the upper middle portion of the screen. The game doesn't have any online aspect other than the leaderboards, so it might be some kind of warning... just throwing speculations here.

I gave into the cheese after one too many runs ended at Horu, and my achievement still unlocked just fine, along with Immortal and Supersonic.
What I did was I paused immediately when I died, hit the home button, went to the game files and deleted my local save (had to do it twice for some reason). Apparently I was quick enough (only had to do this once so I can't guarantee it'll work every time) because when it synced my save files after booting the game back up, I could restart from my last save before I died.

Nope, no offline. Stayed online since I was intending on doing it legit, wasn't actually expecting this half-assed cheese method to work.

Ya, I used it twice in my run, the only downside I had was the cloud saves didn't seem to update whenever you saved. Like I died at the end of the forlorn ruins, so I deleted my local save, but my cloud save was near the end of misty woods; Which isn't terrible but a waste of 5-10 minutes to get back there =(

I finished the final escape sequence totally OFFLINE and both of the Unhinged and Immortal achievements unlocked for me!!!
Here's what I did: I used the "Offline/syncing" method on onelife difficulty and finished the final escape sequence OFFLINE. Neither of the 2 achievements popped even after I went back to the menu. So I quit the game, deleted the local save and the 1G reserve, went back online, restarted the game. And that's when both achievements popped for me, even before I start syncing back my old save files. So maybe we don't have to take any risks at all! I believe this method is worth trying, since even it doesn't work, we can always try the final sequence online again right?
Great guide by the way!!! Your video helped me a lot.

X1, can you confirm whether or not you deleted the 1GB of Reserved Space EVERY time you deleted the local save as well?
This has to be the reason it isn't working for some people. Had I tried this trick out a few days ago I would have likely overlooked that or not thought to do so.

Just to be safe, you should probably not hit Retry if you die and want to start a new run. I always deleted the save and made a new one for every new run.

Did it legit after 10+ attempts. I followed your guide for the volcano as it kept killing me in really obnoxious ways and it really helped. I abused quiting out if I suspected death but otherwise it went well. The achievement popped without issue alongside super sonic and immortal.

I've completed this now 3 times, both online and offline, and have not gotten it to pop yet. I have noticed that my hard mode playthrough save file has the icon indicating the game is finished (Ori standing in the middle of an orange burst), but my One Life playthrough still shows Mount Horu as the icon.
Any other thoughts on how I might trigger the save file to complete? I've tried going online at the end for 10 minutes before jumping to the tree cutscene, I've tried the whole final sequence offline with deleting the data, and I've tried the whole final sequence online, all with no luck. :(

^I know this probably isn't what you want to hear but there is a chance that having multiple concurrent playthroughs might mess with this.
I would wipe everything, and only play with a One Life save active. There is a CHANCE that deaths from your Hard playthrough are voiding this across the board through the reserved space file.

Thats something I forgot to point out. Everytime I died on the One-Life mode I deleted my entire save file (From manage game) and started a brand new save, I didnt mess around playing on other save files until I was done with One-Life. So try that, try deleting your entire game save and starting fresh.

Successfully unlocked this achievement with offline play + online sync method. This is my experience of the save process. Go straight offline after every load save, and play for a period of time. When you want to save, save once before you go back online (Just in case you can't get back online occasionally). Back online and remain in the pause screen for a while (Let the Xbox restore online status entirely), save again. Exit to the main menu and load save again to make sure all OK. And press Xbox button, abort game manually, restart it, load save again (This is to make sure your save is synced to the Microsoft cloud). And the save process is completed. You can continue start another play-and-save loop then.

The doing one life mode with triple jump willmake it seem much easier.

@The Butchr. I just completed One Life on an orange/brown save and it didn't unlock but I got Immortal. It's definitely red when you start on a new slot with no previous deaths. From what other people are saying I think it's best to delete everything and start a fresh save file each time.

Yeah, I resumed from the save where I died. It placed me back at the beginning, and I completed an entire run from there. No pop. I'm at Misty Woods, so I'm well on my way!
Edit:
Yep, that's what it was. I started another One Life run and it unlocked at the end. Managed to finish in 2 hours, 20 minutes. Onto the rest. Thanks for the tips, buddy!

I hate myself so much right now. I just died at the beginning of the hide and seek right after forlorn ruins. I've done it many times, but I still screwed it up. Came and watched your video just to watch the timing once. At the very first section of the hide and seek sequence I didn't know you could dive into the water. I was going from the start all the way to the tree in one go. If I just knew that you could do that I would probably be entering mt horu right now.
I hate one life modes. It just feels so bad to die an hour and a half in and then be all the way back at the beginning. I'm fairly consistent on all of this and can easily pull off low death numbers, but I always tilt at some section and decide to do something REALLY stupid. On an earlier attempt I just decided Ori needed to hug some spikes. No enemies around or lasers to dodge or anything. Just decided the spikes needed a friend.
Anyways, thanks for the video. That will probably save me a ton of frustration on that hide and seek sequence.

Lol I feel your pain man. My first attempt at one life mode I decided it was a good idea to bash upward off a projectile into some spikes in the ceiling not once, but twice, and died less than FIVE minutes from the end of the game lol. The people watching my stream shared in my misery. But I dusted myself off and started over again immediately, and wound up being successful on my 2nd attempt.
It's worth it in the end. A very satisfying achievement to earn "legitimately".

Yeah, I honestly find no satisfaction in cheesing and boosting and it's VERY rare I do either for an achievement. I boosted 2 days of leap frog, but that's pretty much it. Nothing against people who do anything like that, but for me the appeal of an achievement is the joy of actually doing it.
Wow, your guide is probably going to clean up one more spot. In misty woods when you have the binary flowers that switch on and off when you jump I was on the second set. You jump onto the first one and then walk off of it and then jump to the second flower. Very easy and repeatable. I was double jumping over the first flower all the way to the third one. It never occurred to me that I could land on it and walk off. On my last one life attempt I clipped the edge of the first flower right before my second jump and it turned the flowers back off and I hit the laser. 2:21:20 in the first video if that makes no sense.
Made it to mt horu tonight and got through 3/8 rooms. The 4th was one that I NEVER struggle with, except I had a weird glitch happen once where Ori went flying through one of the walls. I was standing in the same spot as that glitch and panicked and pretty much just jumped into the laser. I probably would have been fine if I just hadn't moved. I suppose I still have a normal save just before mt horu. This week I'll just copy that save and practice mt horu 20 times since I know I can do the rest of the game with 99% consistency at this point.

Yeah I know the spot youre talking about in misty woods. Realizing that jumping off of a platform switches them but jumping in mid air doesnt is pretty crucial to making that part easy. Good luck in Mt horu!

Didn't even quit to menu or anything like that. I used your cheese of grabbing the rock in the circular room in Mt Horu without turning the spinning laser on just because I didn't want to screw myself on that again, although that's not even really cheese.
I even have proof of the whole thing with no restarts or anything:

The achievement did not unlock after my initial run for it. I got the "under 3 hours" achievement and (quite ironically) the "don't die" achievement. But this one did not unlock. I was offline most of the time and resynced my cloud saves after messing up and deleting my local save files.
I, however, died pretty soon in the game and just started over, using the same save file (the one that's showing Ori with the crosses in its eyes to indicate that you have messed up). I am pretty sure that was my mistake because I did another run today again being offline most of the time and even being offline in the final escape but it unlocked without problems this time around.
I would highly recommend mentioning the " do not start over on the same file" part in the solution.
Other than that: Great solution, pal! Well done!

Will you unlock immortal as well? I also haven't played the game in such a long time whats the elite run what can you collect etc. Can you see if you have had any deaths as I have an old save, but not sure what it is (no death etc).

In the pause menu on the upper right is your death total. If you do Unhinged it should unlock immortal too.

Yes you can play offline and peiodically sync your save to live. Delete save/player data and resync your last one from live if you die while offline. The last escape sequence may need to be online not 100% sure.

What can kill you in 1 in the ice palace (well I call it the ice places as I don't know what it's called but you should know where I mean) and horu? and every time I load into the game it's loading an old save and not the save where I saved it last. Could it be cuz I'm saving offline?

If you beat the game on One-Life difficulty, does the achievement for beating it on Hard also pop? That's usually how it goes in these multiple-difficulty games, beating it on the hardest difficulty always unlocks achievements for beating all the easier difficulties....right?

I started working toward this achievement, and I began to wonder if dying and restarting multiple times in a single 1-life save file would effect the separate achievement for beating the whole game without dying. I just want to make sure, so I don't have to do another flawless run if it doesn't pop.

You can play one life while online, just have to be extra careful with managing the backup. Auto backup happens in every 1-5 minutes. You can force backup by exiting to the title menu then closing the game in the guide (select game then QUIT). This is useful when you know you will probably die in the next section and don't want to begin from way back. To get your save back:
1, when you die, pause the game and bring up the guide
2, select ori from the quick home menu, press start (the three white lines button) and choose "manage game"
3, select the game save (reserved space doesn't matter), press start, delete save, delete from console
4, do this again, the system forcibly closes the game
5, start the game and you got your save back
You don't have to be super fast but do it right away. If you do anything else than going right away to manage game and deleting the save, for example quit the game your save will sync and you have to begin the game again.

Dying and restarting without deleting the Save file will negate the achievement for completing One Life mode, although the separate achievement for completing the game without dying still unlocks IIRC. However, I highly advise backing out to the main menu and deleting your save file to start fresh any time you die on One Life. Save yourself the headache of having to do One Life a 2nd time.

Thanks again, I'll start doing that. I keep dying due to getting cocky and thinking I can grab collectables with my current collection of abilities. You know what they say: if at first you don't succeed, try again. Good thing his game is a bloody masterpiece, or I would've given up after the first 3 attempts :P

Absolutely. I was compelled to do a 0 death run on the original, despite there not being an achievement for it simply because how great it is! Lucky me that practice led to a 10 or 12hr completion on Ori DE, and the honor of being first in the world to finish it.

So I was actually going to do the offline method but it wouldn’t let me play the game because I’m gamesharing and I bought this game so my home xbox isn’t the one allowed to play it offline. So playing legit I died 20-30min In, 3 times. Really stupid but once I got past the Ginso Tree on my 4th try it was a breeze up until Mt. Horu. I died in the 2nd room from the Lava stream that insta kills you if you don’t jump right and avoid it waiting for the moving platform to get to you. Now I got lucky because I deleted the save and it worked (this didn’t work on the previous attempts).
So it sucks I had to do that but at least I know it wasn’t that bad and I could’ve easily got it completely legit eventually if I had to. They would’ve had to make it something you had to do in one sitting like Wolfenstein 2 to have prevented any save file tricks

Glad you got it done, and yeah dying in My Horu on a 0 death run happened to me several times on the original and once on the DE during my stream. The one on the DE was a completely stupid mistake in a spot I had never died on before lol. But I always come back for more.

I wouldnt risk it tbh. An hour+ into a run and you arent quick enough 1 time after a death and it's back to the drawing board.

I should have read the comments before attempting this. It didn‘t pop when I kept restarting on my OneLife save. Deleting the save after every failed attempt did the trick...both runs were legit, no cloudsave BS.
I think this should be flagged as glitched.

It isnt glitched per se, you just have to start a new save if you die.

My suggestion if you are doing this while playing offline. If you want to be more sure to get the achievement, right as you make the last section of the game you bash up some falling rocks. I paused once at the top before hitting the cutscene and reconnected to live. That worked for me.

Yes! It popped for me and I mainly used the 12 Feb 18 post by LifeExpectancy. 3 notes from me:
1.) I had to disconnect my network cable to go offline. This may have been implied above, but I initially tried to sign out of a profile in game with the cable plugged in and it would just kick me out of the game.
2.) When playing offline, if I knew I was about to die or took extensive damage, I would exit and reload most recent save offline. Saved a lot of time as I didn't have to delete the save file/resync online. Always check the death counter.
3.) I did the final escape sequence offline. Once Ori wakes up after the cutscene and you can move her, I reconnected network cable to go back online. I made sure to not run to the very end and the achievement popped in about 5 minutes of me just standing there.
A great guide and some awesome notes. Thanks to LifeExpectancy and all the others!

I’ve been trying this for about a week and half and it really is grinding me down lol. I love the game but what kills me is having to restart with nothing and the gameplay is much slower. I’ve died twice inside Mt. Horu and one time right before acquiring Koru’s feather. The other deaths are from silly things where I’m just being very impatient because of how many times I have tried this.
My only “trick” is to save often and quit when I’ve lost quite a bit of health or when I am very close to an insta death. I’m not trying to offline trick as I honestly don’t want to go through the hassle of that. I’d likely be done with it by now if I’d used that trick lol but I know I can do it without that. Maybe if I get annoyed enough with it but the more I go through the easier it gets.
Probably going to take a break from trying for a bit and come back fresh.
Any tips that I’m missing? Maybe certain sections that I could go through faster/skip?
Anyway, appreciate your guide/speed run stream. I’ve been using it off and on to get through the run quickly.

I think the path I took in the original stream where I didnt do 100% completion is probably the easiest/safest route without doing any sort of drspawn glitches (which can be hard to pull off anyway). My biggest suggestion is what you are already doing - taking some time off. The first time I finished a 0 death run on OG Ori, I hadnt played the game at all for nearly two weeks. You would be surprised how much coming back fresh can help. I wouldnt wait longer than 2 weeks between attempts lest you get rusty, but I also wouldnt keep trying after frustration sets in.
Skill tree-wise put all your points into the tree that leads to triple jump. The other trees are completely unnecessary when going for 0 deaths.

Okay cool. I’ve been putting all my points into the triple jump path. Actually at the beginning I tend to put points into the spirit flame to beef it up a bit so it’s easier to kill enemies.
I don’t think I’ve played since Monday night and I probably won’t try again until next week.
Thanks for the reply, take care

Finally got it done. I have such a feeling of relief lol, I must've tried 20+ times and sunk countless hours into Unhinged. I said to myself a year ago after going through the Definitive Edition that I'd never go back and do Unhinged but here we are. A feeling of accomplishment followed by a deep need to play no games for a week or two.
If Will of the Wisps dropped at e3 I can honestly say I'd give it at least a month before I played it. I love Ori but i've had enough for the time being!

So I did this entirely online, and only the Immortal achievement popped? And yes, I am on One Life difficulty
PS at what bit should it be popping?
Edit: I’ve tried recompleting the final sequence (from most recent save) after: hard-rebooting, deleting and resyncing my save, use a save backup (accessed via up on d-pad), overwrote save spot (so gold banner turns blue) and recomplete back to gold. All failed. Interestingly, it appears I’m not getting an entry in the in-game leaderboard for some reason
Edit 2: I just saw the note at the top of the guide... I think I might have died right at the very beginning and just continued on that save-.- bullshit that the no deaths achievement pops but not the one for this specific difficulty, since the auto restart on death is a feature of it....

Played through all of it Offline, including the final escape and got both achievements when reconnecting right before the final cutscene.
I reconnected to Xbox Live when Ori wakes up after falling and you have once again control over him to walk to the right edge, but before Kuro grabs him in the air. Achievements popped during the dialogue when Ori stands on the edge before parachuting into Kuro's claws. I did not press A until I got both achievements. Thanks for the amazing guide!

I played on PC because it was more convenient and after having struggled with the auto (but not everytime) sync to the cloud save, here is my advice, I got the One life difficulty + no death achievements like this :
1) Play online to sync your last to most current save to the cloud,
2) If/When you die, try to immediately pause (if you are not quick enough, I think it's not problematic. It seems that you can reach the game over screen without triggering the aut-sync).
3) Alt +tab to the desktop.
4) Turn off the wifi (or your wired internet connection). BE SURE TO BE OFFLINE before proceeding further.
5) Right click on the Ori program icon in the taskbar and close the window.
6) While still offline, launch the game again, and see if your save has recorded the death or not
7.1) If there's the Ori's head that indicates you died, don't worry, since you are offline it won't send it to the cloud. You have to reset the game (still offline). To do so, go to the search bar in the start menu on your desktop, search for Ori, right click on it, then select App settings. Then click on the Reset button (do it twice to be sure). Turn on your internet connection and launch Ori. It will download your last clean save.
7.2) if you did it quick enough, sometimes you'll see your last save without a death and you can go on. Remember to turn on your wifi after this step to sync your next saves, and you can keep playing safely until your next death.

First off, fantastic guide! It helped me out a ton.
Second, just wanted to confirm that going offline wasn't necessary for me. As soon as I died I would pause, dashboard, delete the save data and reserved space, then relaunch the game and download the save from live. I did this many times throughout my run and both Immortal and Unhinged popped for me at the end.

Worked perfectly with the method #4. Also, thank you so much Theodoricus Rex for your method on the last section. I've followed your instructions because the achievement doesn't wanted to unlock, on the last dialogue I did not press A until I get my achievement and that worked. Your comment should really been on the guide. Thanks again, I thought my achievement was messed up or something.

If you died on that save file and started over at the beginning, even if you finish from beginning to end it wont unlock. It must be done on a fresh save file that has never restarted from the beginning. There's a warning about this I added to the solution after someone unfortunately did just that.
If you never died and restarted from the beginning of the game on that save file, it might be a delayed unlock.

It should, yes. A few folks have had to replay the final escape if both didnt pop. Just make sure as mentioned above that if you die, go back to the main menu and delete that save and start fresh on a new save. Even if you do the entire game start to finish on one life mode, the achievement wont pop if you died and restarted from the beginning of the game on that save file. Always start with a fresh save if a death registers (unless doing the offline cheese method).

Important:
I Finished One Life difficulty once but the achievement didn´t popped. I had to delete all savegames and start a new one to get it.
Unlocked it on PC Xbox beta Game pass.
1. I had on the background the network adapter window and Ori´s App settings. On start menu, right click on Ori´s game, more, App settings.
2. Whenever i died i´d pause immediately, Alt+tab, disable my network adapter (its faster than disconnecting the cable), on Ori´s app settings click on reset.
3. Turn the network adapter again. Start the game.
4. To save my progress i just went to main menu, close the game and open it again.
Thanks for this thread.

I just completed it using the offline method and paused during the final escape sequence just as you hit the point where you jump off the ledge. I reconnected to live and sat through the ending cutscene but skipped the rest once I had the option to. I sat all the way through the credits until it took me back to the start page but still no achievements. I started a new One Life game on a different save slot and after gaining control of Ori I paused the game to start Googling when the achievements should have unlocked. About a min later all 3 (Supersonic, Immortal, & Unhinged) all unlocked at the same time.

Not a bullshit achievement. Actually an awesome achievement for hardcore gamers. That being said I most likely will not be trying this one as I probably won't be able to deal w/ the frustration of dying during late game stages haha.

Got to last section of the Mt. Horu escape and died. I failed to duck in the tree and reset the killer bird timer before bashing up to the end. FML... But this game is so good, I starting playing again immediately. Tough but fair achievement. PRACTICE all the tough areas before.

Just to test, on PC playing with Game Pass, I tried both methods of saving a death I saw in the comments, and neither worked. No matter how fast I paused on dying, it recorded my death. I:
-On death, paused, closed the app, reset app date, and relaunched. Death was saved.
-On death, paused, went offline, closed the app, reset app data, went back online, relaunched. Death was saved.
I did this as a test at the beginning of the game to see if it would work. Guess I'll have to do it legit.

Now I'm annoyed. Just finished, got Immortal, but Unhinged didn't pop. And according to the leaderboard, I only have 14% exploration in 40 minutes. But my game stats says 96% in 3 hours 50 minutes.

Make sure if you start over that you DELETE the save that registered the death from the in-game menu.
I mention it in the solution that if you die and start over on the same save file without deleting it, that file will not pop Unhinged.

Amazing guide, used the offline/online trick since the insta-death lasers drove me insane!
I did the final escape offline right up until I jumped inside the tree that starts the final cutscene, THEN paused and swapped to online. I watched the cutscenes and credits, then both this and Immortal popped as I sat on the home screen.
So glad to have it done, best of luck to anyone else attempting this.

The save trick with the online sync can be done without ever going offline, just did it myself.
1. To upload your save, force quit the game from the xbox home screen.
2. To download a save, do not force quit the game (this is very, very important) and go to Manage game & add-ons > Saved data > Delete all. This will quit the game and next time you load it up it will sync with your last good uploaded save.
This should help people who had it glitch because of it trying to pop while they were offline.

Doing this on Hard would be beyond brutal, especially early on in the game when almost everything beyond the most basic enemy is a one hit kill.

That might be from a previous attempt. As long as you deleted the file before starting your current run and your pause menu shows zero deaths you SHOULD be ok.

I haven't gotten this yet, but I discovered if you run across a former death location, there's a wisp, which tells you how long you lived. More importantly, it nets you an ability point. It doesn't seem to be repeatable (multiple deaths to accumulate), but you can die from the thorns at the beginning and get the free point before actually playing. If you died at one of the insta-kill spots, you have to be careful, as touching it could interrupt your movement long enough to get you killed again.
It's not much, but it can be helpful to have that extra point early on.

The only problem with that is you'd be playing on a save file where a previous death had registered which negates Unhinged on any subsequent plays on that save. Aka if you see a wisp from a previous death, you won't be able to unlock unhinged. You need to exit out, delete the save, and start fresh on a clean save file.

Yes if playing on One Life you need to delete your save if you die and start with a fresh save file.

Ah, I hadn't realized that. The note above makes sense in light of that. Seems kinda dumb not to allow it though, since a death does restart game progress.

This achievement is definitely bothering me. Even using the PC and knowing where the files are, I somehow will still end up with a dead file. I think the latest debacle deleted all my files from the cloud. Even going back to the Xbox One shows them all empty. I have copies of the folders on my desktop, but it doesn't seem to recognize them when I copy anything back. :|

By Jazernocsuh on 28 Nov 2022 23:14
No it doesnt. One Life mode is based on normal difficulty, just without allowing respawns. One Life on hard mode would be pretry brutal.
Minimum playthroughs to 100% this game: a 100% run on Hard and a run on One Life. However, maxing the ability tree on Hard Mode would require substantial grinding, so I recommend 3 playthroughs. One on normal to get elite and supersonic then wrap up 100% post game, one on hard using ability tree while going through, then One Life. Maybe hard run first so the elite/supersonic on normal will feel "easy" by comparison.

Wait so to clarify, I just played an hour into my playthrough and had picked up a wisp i guess from a previous playthrough death from years ago. Does that negate this achievement Unhinged or you meant to say Immortal achievement in comment above? Seems pretty bad if they really don’t give you the achievement if you complete game on one life mode, irregardless of having died on the previous attempt :/

Yes if you die and there is a death on that save file you will NOT unlock the One Life achievement (unless they patched it since). You must start a fresh save file.
0
0
By LifeExpectancy on 07 Jan 2023 15:46
To clarify you dont need to delete ALL your data from Xbox. You just need to start a new One Life mode run on a FRESH save file (from the 10 slots ar the game's save file menu). If you keep going on the same save after the game restarts you at the beginning from a death, the one life ach would not pop at the time I wrote this solution. Its best to just start on a fresh save. If you finish one life on a save that had a death and it doesnt pop, that would suck.

I’ve found the offline cheese to be very hit or miss. It works but not to the last time I performed it; died at Forlorn Ruins after having just done the trick, deleted my local save data and the reserved space, and Live picks up my file from right before I’m heading to the Ginso Tree. I did the cheese about 5 times after that point and none of them were counted when I finally did die.

You have to save and quit and reload the save once or twice while connected to live to ensure it updates the cloud save. Theres always the possibility its been patched to only sync the cloud save periodically at set times to prevent easy cheesing but I doubt it.
I tested the cheese method on two accounts after doing it legit on this tag and it worked both times.

Yeah the sync unsurprisingly doesn’t do that: managed to sync to my file while it was in the middle of Forlorn Ruins. Doing the method multiple times appears to work more consistently so thanks for that. ;) Heading to Sorrow Pass so I’m probably gonna throw my riskier strat of only being Offline when up to a point where there’s an insta-kill hazard (outside the final escape, I’ll do some practice to refresh and I’ll go for it Online to make sure it pops, should be fine as I don’t remember any of the escapes being that hard) out the window.
EDIT: Popped, don’t need to think about this ever again. Oddly enough after Moon Grotto I only had to use the cheese 4 times, and 3 were at Forlorn Ruins (2 of which were due to a stupid mistake regarding the control stick with the Gumon Structures); didn’t have to use it at all in Mount Horu, only needed to quit out to the title screen once when I was almost dead with no way to save myself. Probably won’t go for a legit run as I have a lot of games to complete (in addition to me being interested in replaying "CrossCode") and I still think a permadeath mode in this game is bs.
P.S If you’ve checked multiple One Life videos where Unhinged pops, you’ll see it pops right before Kuro snatches you. If you take the advice in the solution to only continue dialogue when it’s complete (including audio) it’ll pop before Sein audibly finishes their last message.

Its likely because you had previously died on that save file. As mentioned in the solution if you die DO NOT just keep going on that save when it starts you back at the beginning. DELETE that save file and start over on a fresh file.

I'm not sure the offline method works anymore unless I am doing something wrong. I am trying to test it out early game to ensure it will work but every time I go through the steps and reload the game while online, my file doesn't return from the cloud. Is there a setting I need to have on to use cloud saves or something that I'm not aware of? Or is it possible I am doing something wrong? I starting the game online and letting it save at the start, then going offline until I have soul link available. Return online, make a save, quit and relaunch. Go offline again, make progress, return online, make another save, and then go offline again and die. Then I delete my save, quit the game and delete reserved space, go back online and launch the game, and the file is still gone.

You might be choosing "delete everywhere" rather than delete from console only?? Thats the only thing I can think of. It should still work based on how the cloud saves work. IIRC it sometimes doesnt sync the save to the cloud if you do the steps too fast, but it's been a long time since I've tested it.

I was deleting the save from the game menu itself, then the reserved space from the game management screen, maybe that was why? I was afraid to delete progress from the management menu as I didn't know if it would work or not and didn't wanna lose my other saves. I will mess with it tonight.

Yes you need to do it from game management not the in-game file manager. Make sure to delete console only bc if u delete everywhere your cloud save goes byebye.

Just got this today. Like others I also cheesed this unfortunately. I played the original and this one back-to-back so I kinda wanted to just be done with it. To the point, I did the method you mentioned at section 5, but I found that it only worked when I deleted the save data on console and KEPT the reserved space. I only mention this as you say in your solution that your supposed to delete both, when doing so may screw you over.

Thanks for pointing that out. My concern was the reserved space "holding" the death.
For me it worked by deleting reserved space on both dummy accounts I tested it on, but perhaps a patch has changed things slightly.

Just to confirm for others I completed last chase sequence offline and as soon as I got to the end and was sure I’d made it ( the bit where Ori runs through the burning tree and falls where it’s out of your control ) I paused went to the dashboard went back online and carried on - there are 2 short walking sequences where you can’t die and then once the final cut sequence started it unlocked together with the no dying achievment

Just completed this yesterday, Unfortunately I had to do the cheese method due to the pressure of not dying causes me to overthink. I Followed not wiping my reserved space when dying while offline. If I died while playing offline I would pause and delete my save from my console. Then reconnect to online and and it would have my previous save. All comments in total helped me! Hope this helps someone attempting this!!

You can select a One Life save where you have died, and the game will start you over. I think this is where the issue lies. I finished my run, but did not think about deleting and restarting One Life mode on a new slot. When I finished the game, the achievement did not unlock (and my save file is "stuck" at Mt. Horu, the last Soul Link I set).
I'm fairly certain this can happen to you regardless of whether you do this legitimately or not. Even Steam users had complained, but I think you need to start fresh by deleting that One Life save and using a blank slot. I'm running it again today, using a new slot. If I finish it, I'll report my findings here.

Not for One Life no. You can do the offline backup method where you play offline, make progress, then go online to update the cloud save as mentioned in the solution. But the One Life save cannot be copied, only moved to a new slot. You cant have multiple copies of the same one life mode save, although you could start multiple saves in one life. They would just be separate playthroughs.

^I'm guessing it was because he was offline at time of the unlocking. We just need to hear of someone testing it while being online at the end. Would be terrible if any offline activity voided it though. I mean, some folks have intermittent connection issues and I would be devastated to lose it cause of that!

I tried this legit and made it to the last escape sequence in Mt Horu. I knew I was going to die when I missed my stomp in the second area. I hit start immediately and the death counter was still at zero, so I selected the option to go back to the main menu to retry. In the save selection screen, it said that I died, I was really mad. I tried the technique to delete the save and the reserved space in the hub, synced my save again and completed without dying the last sequence. The cheevo didn't pop.
Retried legit and died twice in Mt Horu for stupid mistakes (I was quite stressed I must admit). This is going to be mine, and legit. I think that's the only way to go.
And thanks to the OP for the video, I don't think it's the safest path but I learned multiple shortcuts thanks to you. I guess comfort is a personal notion in this kind of game. Anyway, congrats for the achievement!!

Yeah if u r deleting save, make sure you pause immediately when u die and dashboard to game management. Dont hit retry or wait very long after u die. Always delete the reserved space. I would also suggest NOT playing any other save files while going for it. Its possible lading a save file on another difficulty that has a death on it MIGHT void this.
Also thanks Fuuldrin for your kind words. :) My path is not the quickest, or the safest, but its all about what youre most comfortable with.

So,what I Say.
You CAN be offline, during the final escape!!
But when the Ori awake in the forest that burns and is necessary to approach to Sein - connect with XLive and wait on the ground 2-3 minutes. Don't go to th Sein!!!
After this I got all 3 achievements-Immortal,One Life,Supersonic.
And one more. May be is a broke achievement in some regions.. In Russian region achievement don't unlocked.
I was need change my region to the USA.. If you don't got achievement, try change region and repeat last escape

I paused as I made the final jump in the escape and reconnected to live then finished it. This achievement and Immortal popped just fine first try

Did it legit as well today. I quitted a few times when I knew I would die, apart from that nothing unusual: I stayed online, didn't delete and sync because I actually never died.
I did a 2 mins break before Mt Horu just to breathe and relax quickly. I left the party chat just to focus on Mt horu. It's not hard by any means but the pressure can get you and make you commit a stupid mistake.
I suggest to create a save on normal when you enter Mt horu and repeat the entire Mt Horu section a few times to get confortable.

I find it pretty tough to pause delete in time while playing Online. I even tested it on a new run and it ALWAYS brings back the old Death file. After a few hours of wasted runs, I'm definitely trying the offline method. Annoying, but at least it's a guaranteed deletion and no gambling.

Just completed One Life and unlocked Immortal but NOT Unhinged? Read through advice above and will try deleting reserved space and doing the final escape again.

If you already completed it while connected to xbox live on that save file, it's likely it registered a death at some point along the way on that save file and thus won't grant you the achievement, although I would think that if it registered a death at some point it would have reset you to the beginning, so it's worth a shot. Did you make sure the achievement isn't just stuck done-unlocking?

Some tips from me:
1)FOR ANY REASON DO NOT CONTINUE THE ONE LIFE SAVE IF YOU DIE. MAKE A NEW SAVE FILE.
2) The offline play + online sync method is the best tactic to earn this achievement. Yeah its lame but you may die at some point.
3) The best way to ensure that your savefile is synced with live is to check your overall time and then check your placing at the One Life leaderboard. There, the time will be the same as your savefile (+ - 5 seconds or so), which means that you sinced your savefile successfully while going back online. Sometimes, if you die, you may see 1 death at the leaderboard but that death is reverted when you load your backup online save!
4) Replay the game legit at One Life! Have Fun!

Heres how it goes:
1. Play offline as far as youre comfortable (15mins or so at a time).
2. While still in the game, reconnect to live. Go back to the game and save and quit to main menu. Reload your save. Save and quit again. Dashboard and close game. Relaunch game and load latest one life save. Sit in game 5-10 mins before saving and quitting again.
3. Disconnect from live and play offline.
4a. If you die while offline, delete the local player data file AND the reserved space if there is a separate file for it. The ONLY thing remaining should be the game install. Then reconnect to live and resync your last save before going offline again (step 3).
4b. If you survive while offline 15mins or so (or however far you are comfortable attempting), save game and repeat steps 2 through 4.
I have made step 2 more complex than it needs to be. This is to ENSURE your save syncs.
Or, you know, just play the game a lot and practice. One Life is totally doable and is worth it for the sense of accomplishment.

No it shouldnt because one life mode is based on Normal mode as far as how easy you die. It's technically harder to finish than hard mode, but it's also technically easier in the moment to moment gameplay. I don't it unlocks the hard mode achievement.

Just got the achievement. Was able to consistently get to Mt Horu in under 2 hrs, but i just struggled with two rooms. After 8 attempts, I shrugged and did the offline cheese method just to get to the final chase sequence, which I finished online. So glad it's finally done.

I just want to throw my thoughts into this. I got the achievement the cheese way (probably 5 deaths total) and a few times I knew was was falling to death and so I just quit out. The cheese method works great. I did watch the entire credits. The main thing I wanted to point out is that a few times a died and I didnt quit out immediately, I could see the icon in the menu of Ori with "x's" for eyes indicating that I had died, but I just stayed offline, deleted my save, went online and loaded it from the cloud and everything worked out fine for me.

I will try that tonight and remark my findings here, that was probably my mistake. I don't remember seeing an option for deleting from console only vs everywhere but I will check again. Thanks for your quick responses! I don't mean to fill up the comment wall here haha
