How to unlock the Elite achievement in Ori and the Blind Forest - Definitive Guide

This one is pretty straight forward. Ability Points are what you use when you create a spirit link and press cn_B by it to upgrade your skills. You'll still get the achievement even if you accidentally hit cn_B by a spirit link so long as you don't actually spend an Ability Point on an upgrade.

Though straight-forward, this can be challenging because the latter areas of the game have pretty tough enemies, and without the upgrades to your attack abilities they are sponges, soaking up quite a bit of damage. Not to mention making spirit links is more expensive and doesn't restore your HP when you make them.

The key is to explore the map as much as possible to get all of the Health and Spirit Energy orbs. It will help immensely to have more health and spirit energy toward the end of the game. Also, be judicious with when/where you use your spirit links later on. If you have plenty of energy, use one so you don't lose tons of progress if you die. If you're running low, you're going to need to try to stretch that energy between saves as much as possible.

The achievement unlocks during the final cut scene.

Update: the bug has been patched! If it didn't unlock for you and you still have a No Abilities save before the end, you can finish the game on that save again and unlock it as the patch is retroactive for all existing saves as well as new ones. Cheers!

I don't blame be game. I blame the developers. It is absolutely their fault. If I can copy/save files so the game can't register my death counter then I should be able to do this. For one, if the criteria for an achievement is "don't do x and y" and you go ahead and don't do x and y, I don't care how many times you copy/paste a file...in none of those files did did you do anything to "break" the achievement. The ironic part is I died a bunch in my frustration during my speed run/no dying run. Game didn't glitch that achievement for me. So, yeah, I absolutely blame the developers because it is, to me, completely out of my hands. Furthermore, the whole "you can't have any file with an ability point used" theory pisses me off because under that implication, anyone and everyone who plays the game has to play without using an ability point all the way through the very first time they ever play the game, OR they have to suffer the consequences and delete everything completely and hope that this fixes an error that shouldn't have occurred in the first place. This is absolutely fixable, and I tell you what, it sure as shit isn't my responsibility to fix it. It may sound harsh, but I'm not a big fan of being effed out of stuff because of things that are out of my control. That being said, sorry if this feels like an attack on you or the developers but I'm just venting my frustrations.

Could be a potential bugged achievement.

I was doing this and the Supersonic achievement at the same time on 2 different saves.
Supersonic unlocked
however this one did not.

I did open the abilities list a few times just to make sure I didn't spend any points during the session but as LifeExpectancy said it doesn't seem to have an effect on it.

After noticing it didn't activate I quit out of the game during the credits to try the last scene again however the save was locked in its completed state.

I did lose internet connection half way through the game but I was saving and quitting multiple times to switch between saves, this might have had an effect on it however it is very unlikely.

I have spurs of achievement hunting and find it very rewarding, but when you spend 4 hours and gain nothing it sadly kills your motivation for it very quickly.

Fingers crossed nobody runs into this problem.

@Homeless Sorbet, I got the exact same issue. I unlocked Supersonic but not this and I have not spent an ability at all. Everything in the tree is locked.

For those with the glitched achievement you can email their support team for a patch, this is from my Twitter to Moon Game Studios :
"@OriBlindForest: @smallywoodxbla please let us know more about your achievement issue at feedback@moongamestudios.com and we will fix it!"

If you make a backup of your save right before you do the final escape and finish the game, you can just keep re-doing that final escape until it pops. At least that's what I've been told. It popped for me first go but I did have a backup save just in case.

I also wasn't concurrently running another, different save file where I was using ability points or anything (like a collectibles save file). Dunno if anyone having the issue is but seems to me like that could cause problems.

@Homeless and Gorija.

I have the exact same problem. I got my no death and 3 hours achievement, but not this one :(

I started a new game for all the secrets and deleted all saves, so I can't try if it pops if you try the bosslevel again.

For the 100 secrets at least you can track you progress in achievement app on Xbox or here. It's about some collectables that can be easily missed or maybe there is also a technical issue. But this one is just a pain in the ass for me. Anyway your guide is great dude. An up vote from me. :)

There's a technical issue. It doesn't always register toward the % progress on the achievement when you find a secret your first playthrough, and apparently secrets you've found in a playthrough won't increase the % in any subsequent playthroughs, even if they didn't increase it on your first playthrough. So unless you do DRM_Gamecast's trick of keeping the app snapped and reloading saves to get credit multiple times from some of the secrets on your first playthrough, you'll probably be locked out of this achievement until a patch. I've done four playthroughs, including one where I found every single nook and cranny in the game, and I'm stuck at 88%, which hasn't increased since my 2nd playthrough.

Gambit did you delete the 1gb 'reserved' space on the hard drive as well as your player data within the game management screen? (NOT the in-game save file deletion, but actually delete your player data file on your XB1).

A friend of mine had this glitch. He deleted his gamertag off his console, deleted his player data file (from the console AND xbox live), and deleted the 1gb 'reserved space' for Ori.

He then recovered his tag and ran through the game start to finish and Elite popped for him.

Just finished my last play through and had everything pop except Elite. I'm actually quite pissed since everyone had mentioned other achievements being bugged and I have had zero problems with that. I thought I was out of the water on that one. Have a save right before the final sequence, so one day I'm just going to beat it over and over and see if it unlocks. I'm rather disappointed I can't have 1000/1000 because of a buggy achievement :/

If you were quitting out and copying over save files to do no deaths and speedrun you can't really blame the game. Everyone that I know personally that has run the game start to finish without having done any of that has had Elite pop. Even having another save file in the game where you've been messing around with that stuff can break Elite, but especially if you're trying to combine it with no deaths/speedrun and doing the save/quit stuff. It's not really the game's fault that the achievement breaks from doing that.

I combined all three (no deaths, 3 hours, and this one) and all three popped for the final cutscene. I also did a lot of re-copying as I messed up a few time with my main save. But in the end it worked out for me. Lucky maybe.

Did you have any other save files where you had purchased an ability Slade? Like a different playthrough that you had a save file for?

Theyve been very involved on the forums and are working on a patch. The thing is problems with achievements are par for the course on XB1 because the dumbasses at Microsoft decided it was a bright idea to isolate them from the OS and make them an app.... one that requires a server ping to pop or track anything, no less. I was playing offline and the system actually gave me a message that it was no longer going to track ANY offline achievement progress. What the fuck is that? Apparently theres a limit to how much you can do offline between achievement server pings. So yeah it sucks that its glitchy and the devs definitely need to fix it, but I hold MS more responsible than anyone else for FUBARing the achievement system on XB1.

Good to hear that the developers have noticed this bug. I have a save just before the last rush. When the patch comes, I will just run for the last minute, maybe I can get this achievement.

I had the same problem. I went for the 3 achievements and the Elite achievement glitched. I uninstalled the game and deleted all my saves. Downloaded the game again and played without open the abilities screen. Not even once... Achievement unlocked. And yes, I kept a backup game in Mt. Horu, just in case.

So it sounds like we can get it if we delete everything and start again! Thanks Vonrusther! I re-did the game but I didn't un-install and only deleted my saved games internally not from the games and apps. I'm tempted to try it again after re-installing as it's only a few hours and a great game! But we'll see hopefully a patch comes soon so I can just run through the last sequence :)

@JayD101. Yes, man! Give it a shot. I ended the game with 2 hours... Go for a speedrun just picking some of the Energy & Life Cells. I was pretty frustrated in the beggining of the final run, but the game is good and see it complete gave me a relief.

I can confirm if you accidentally spend a point on an ability, if you back out and load a previous save it still unlocks when you beat the game. I believe it just checks if the ability tree has anything unlocked at the end.

I deleted all my saves and gave this another try yesterday because my first try I had other saves and backups of the current save also, and it unlocked so that may be a issue? Other saves with abilities unlocked or if you're backing up the save may affect it somehow. I doubt it... but give it a try and comment back if it popped next time around. It was my last achievement for the game too and now I'm first gamer to complete the game on the site. Yay.

Best of luck to everyone else for trying to get this to unlock now.

Glad to hear there is a patch coming. I have to say it's disappointing to hear someone say they blame the developers it's totally their fault! Bugs happen, all the time and most are unforseeable until a million people play the damn game and you can see what happens. A good developer will straight away listen to the community find out what's wrong and fix it which is clearly what Moon Studios are doing! From day one they said if you have a problem let us know and we will fix it! That is a good developer. You can't completely eliminate bugs or mistakes. Are you perfect?? Do you never make mistakes? Mistakes are a part of life and learning, appreciate the fact this company does the right thing and fixes their mistakes unlike some others. Do it, go on I said APPRECIATE!

For the most efficient use of your time I recommend doing all the difficult achievements in the same run. Immortal-No deaths , Elite-no abilities points used and Supersonic-complete game under 3 hours.

For this reason I will be going over tips concerning all three achievements in this.

First thing you need to understand is the generous save system makes what would otherwise be a couple very difficult achievements nothing more than an exercise in saved game management. There are 10 save slots in the main menu where you choose to continue your game use them and abuse them. The game allows you to copy and paste your current save between these 10 different save slots so During your play-through if you spend too much time because you do not know where to go next or you die simply use one of your copied saves to reload and try again until you are happy with how quick you got through a section. This is the key to doing all 3 achievements in one go.

The following information MAY contain slight spoilers.

I Recommend doing this after your initial playthrough of the game. The basic idea is to run through the story as quick as possible only taking extra time to gather nearby energy or life cells. However be sure to take the extra time needed to find all secrets and items in the areas which can not be revisited if possible. The three areas for main concern are the ginsa tree, misty woods and forlorn ruins each contain secret areas that cannot be gotten later, if youre going for the no stone unturned achievement as well be sure to get all these before you leave these areas.

WARNING!! The Elite and no stone unturned achievement (finding all secret locations) seems to be bugged For this reason NEVER EVER spend points on abilities during the run or risk it not unlocking , it also may be advisable to delete any previous saves and start as fresh as possible prior to attempting this run.I experienced the glitch and am currently starting everything from scratch now to see if it works.

Spending time in the pause menu or the ability tree menu does NOT count against your playtime so don't feel rushed when looking at the map however Cutscenes use up precious time so be sure to skip them whenever possible by hitting pause then select "skip cutscene". Also in the pause menu it shows your current playtime and next to that is your death counter , if ever your counter shows anything higher than zero go into your save game backups and reload the nearest save. It is wise to keep an eye on this during your game as sometimes autosaves can be very quick after a death.

If you have spare energy cells Charged attacks will take down the enemies much faster than tapping. Getting extra energy cells is always worthwhile Specifically against the mini bosses that leap out of the ground and spit at you. They take awhile to kill until you get the bash ability.

Starting at forlorn ruins enemies become increasingly more difficult for the no ability speed run, it is always quicker to dispatch enemies by using bash (by holding cn_Y) to shoot their own projectiles back at them rather then using spirit flame (tapping cn_X) or wasting energy cells using charged flame (holding cn_X).

Make sure to keep a save PRIOR to entering the ginsa tree , misty woods for the first time , forlorn ruins and Mt.Horu... All these areas have secrets which cant be accessed again.

Here I will list my playtimes at certain points in the game so you may better judge how you are doing overall. I will also list how many life cells and energy cells i found on the way though i missed many.

At 11 min I had 1life cell and 1 energy cell at spirit well (save point) in hollow grove directly in front of spirit tree

30 min 2LC 3EC door before entering ginsa tree

42 min 2LC 4EC after completing ginsa tree and collecting all 4 secrets. (thanks JayD101 for confirming)

53 min 2LC 5EC save is before misty woods by lantern alter 4 secrets in misty woods

1:08 2LC 6EC door before entering forlorn ruins 3 secrets inside ruins

1:30 3LC 7EC Final Ori ability charge jump obtained

1:42 5LC 9EC door to enter Mt.Horu this is final area so be sure to make a few saves at this point so you can return and get the rest of the missing life cells, energy cells and hidden sections you may have missed on the general map. There is I believe 5 secrets inside the final area Mt.Dori so your no stone unturned achievement tracker should be 90% prior to entering( not sure if this number is exact).Again this achievement may be glitched for you until a patch.

2:02 final confrontation w owl started

Game completed at 2:06

Achievements pops just as
during final sequence.

Hope this helps, I will be updating this guide with more information as I compile it, also if anyone would like videos of any speedrun no death sections please request them and i will add them. If you experience any glitches or bugs please email the developer at feedback@moongamestudios.com so that we may get a patch sooner. Thanks to smallywood for the email.

WARNING: Before attempting this achievement, make sure you do not have any other save files active. The achievement for purchasing no abilities appears to be glitchy, in that it seems to search all your save files, and if you have any save file where you have purchased an ability, the achievement will not unlock for the save file where you didn't. Having only one active playthrough will avoid this.

To unlock this achievement, all you need to do is avoid purchasing an ability at the upgrade menu inside of a spirit link. Once you complete the game without any extra abilities, the achievement will unlock.

0
0
At the moment, the achievement is slightly buggy and it is not clear what breaks it, but here are a few assumptions from foreign forums.

  • You cannot enter the skill tree at all (press the button during a spiritual connection)
  • You cannot make a backup copy of your save and play from it.
Replaying the final boss escape does not give any results, so if you did not receive the achievement, then, unfortunately, you will have to start all over again.

It is best to get this achievement on the 3rd playthrough after receiving

Master Guardian / True Guardian

Powerhouse / Powerful player

To know almost by heart where the energy cells and life cells are, since the enemies become stronger at the end of the game, and your attacks without pumping are very weak, then life and mana will not be superfluous.

I received it yesterday, there are no glitches, they probably fixed it. As the game progressed, I went into the skill tree, but didn’t invest points. I made a backup copy of the save, but did not use it.
