How to unlock the Immortal achievement in Ori and the Blind Forest - Definitive Guide

For the most efficient use of your time I recommend doing all the difficult achievements in the same run. Immortal-No deaths , Elite-no abilities points used and Supersonic-complete game under 3 hours.

For this reason I will be going over tips concerning all three achievements in this.

First thing you need to understand is the generous save system makes what would otherwise be a couple very difficult achievements nothing more than an exercise in saved game management. There are 10 save slots in the main menu where you choose to continue your game use them and abuse them. The game allows you to copy and paste your current save between these 10 different save slots so During your play-through if you spend too much time because you do not know where to go next or you die simply use one of your copied saves to reload and try again until you are happy with how quick you got through a section. This is the key to doing all 3 achievements in one go.

The following information MAY contain slight spoilers.

I Recommend doing this after your initial playthrough of the game. The basic idea is to run through the story as quick as possible only taking extra time to gather nearby energy or life cells. However be sure to take the extra time needed to find all secrets and items in the areas which can not be revisited if possible. The three areas for main concern are the ginsa tree, misty woods and forlorn ruins each contain secret areas that cannot be gotten later, if youre going for the no stone unturned achievement as well be sure to get all these before you leave these areas.

!!!WARNING!!!The Elite and no stone unturned achievement (finding all secret locations) seems to be bugged For this reason NEVER EVER spend points on abilities during the run or risk it not unlocking , You will also want to delete all previous saves and start as fresh as possible prior to attempting this run.I even uninstalled then reinstalled the game,I experienced the glitch doing these things worked for me.

Spending time in the pause menu or the ability tree menu does NOT count against your playtime so don't feel rushed when looking at the map however Cutscenes use up precious time so be sure to skip them whenever possible by hitting pause then select "skip cutscene". Also in the pause menu it shows your current playtime and next to that is your death counter , if ever your counter shows anything higher than zero go into your save game backups and reload the nearest save. It is wise to keep an eye on this during your game as sometimes autosaves can be very quick after a death.

If you have spare energy cells Charged attacks will take down the enemies much faster than tapping. Getting extra energy cells is always worthwhile Specifically against the mini bosses that leap out of the ground and spit at you. They take awhile to kill until you get the bash ability.

Starting at forlorn ruins enemies become increasingly more difficult for the no ability speed run, it is always quicker to dispatch enemies by using bash (by holding cn_Y) to shoot their own projectiles back at them rather then using spirit flame (tapping cn_X) or wasting energy cells using charged flame (holding cn_X).

Make sure to keep a save PRIOR to entering the ginsa tree , misty woods for the first time , forlorn ruins and Mt.Horu... All these areas have secrets which cant be accessed again.

Here I will list my playtimes at certain points in the game so you may better judge how you are doing overall. I will also list how many life cells and energy cells i found on the way though i missed many.

At 11 min I had 1life cell and 1 energy cell at spirit well (save point) in hollow grove directly in front of spirit tree

30 min 2LC 3EC door before entering ginsa tree

42 min 2LC 4EC after completing ginsa tree and collecting all 4 secrets. (thanks JayD101 for confirming)

53 min 2LC 5EC save is before misty woods by lantern alter 4 secrets in misty woods

1:08 2LC 6EC door before entering forlorn ruins 3 secrets inside ruins

1:30 3LC 7EC Final Ori ability charge jump obtained

1:42 5LC 9EC door to enter Mt.Horu this is final area so be sure to make a few saves at this point so you can return and get the rest of the missing life cells, energy cells and hidden sections you may have missed on the general map. There is I believe 5 secrets inside the final area Mt.Dori so your no stone unturned achievement tracker should be 90% prior to entering( not sure if this number is exact).Again this achievement may be glitched for you until a patch.

2:02 final confrontation w owl started

Game completed at 2:06

Achievements pops just as
during

Hope this helps, I will be updating this guide with more information as I compile it, also if anyone would like videos of any speedrun no death sections please request them and i will add them. If you experience any glitches or bugs please email the developer at feedback@moongamestudios.com so that we may get a patch sooner. Thanks to smallywood for the email.

I am 95% certain i found 3 there i will try to verify that for you today or tomorrow and let you know. I am trying to make a list of all secret locations for the entire game as time permits.

I have decided i will be making videos for all the secret locations in the 4 areas that can not be returned to Ginsa tree, Misty woods , Forlorn ruins and Mt.Horu

Also just to clarify as you said you found 3 secrets in Ginsa tree... Are you counting the part where you go through a blue portal to go down in a small room and destroy a blue crystal then there is a tree limb you CAN drop down through to return to an earlier section of the level as a secret?

I am not sure if the game considers that a secret or not honestly as it looks as though the limb is actually a floor until you try to jump through it.

I only found 2 secrets in Forlorn Ruins, 1 at the start to the right and one at the end past the intersecting laser and down a hole. IS there definitely 3 in here?

I was counting that spot in Ginsa Tree, secrets seemed to be any time part of the scenery vanished so I just assumed but I didn't have my tracker up.

I've finished the no death and speed playthroughs but I also had the no ability points one glitch. I'm going to go through Forlorn ruins with the upgrade to more easily see secret areas so If I find it I'll let you know.

Thanks for the reply!

Definitely let me know but apparaently the secret bug does not allow the counter to go passed tge initial playthrough so any new secrets you found on a second playthrough may not actually register on the achievement tracker. Some people report being stuck as low as 30% secrets.

I have contacted moon about the issue and am waiting to hear back as far as what counts as a secret or how many there are in total and im cuurently making a full list.

Hey dude I'm pretty sure you were right about there being 3 in Forlorn Ruins. I can see it on the map now that I have unlocked the ability to see items on the map. Its an energy ball about halfway between the start and the map marker. Grrr can't believe I missed it went back and forward over there a few times! Anyway luckily it's not one I need for an achievement and I used that glitch to make a couple of secret places count twice.

Okay i will update now as i make my map/videos tha ks for the updates. Is the glitch you speak of where you enter a scret place so the achievement tracker counts it but then quit out of game so the game doesnt save it?

Also i agree i believe the secrets are tracked vua your first method mentioned as i too found new secrets i missed in my second run but it never increased. I asked moon this question and am waiting for them to clarify.

I just wanted confirmation about the actual Immortal avhievement. If I die, I can just load a previous backup save correct? I dont have to hurry up and quit just before dieing, correct?

Correct , quitting out before you die simply saves you a bit of time in that you dont have to delete and copy your backup save.

To verify no deaths you want to watch in the pause menu there is an icon of ori's face with Xs for eyes ... As long as this is 0 you are set.

I had a backup save in Forlorn Ruins but it was after you lose the item that lets you walk all over walls so I would have to do it on another save. Can you post if you find it first. Also there is a glitch to make new secrets count more than once if you are missing something.

On my game anyway my original I realised I had 98% map in Forlorn Ruins almost straight after so I started again and made lots of backups. On that game I got some secret areas but the tracker did go up very late once I had found new ones. It could be either the tracker won't go up until you find more than you did on the first game, not go up for just finding 1 new one, or each has been individually coded so it would go up every time you found a new one on any game. From my game it seems to be the first because I got some stuff I thought I didn't have but it didn't go up until very late in the game and I had passed my first game. Also the glitch I mentioned would seem to mean that each secret is not individually coded.

Anyway thanks for finding all this stuff out, I'm trying to decide whether to continue with potentially having missed one or starting again!

When you pause the game, the top-right symbol under your Stats on the upper right side shows how many times you have revived at a Soul Link. This is the trigger for the achievement, so keeping it at zero is the goal.

If you die and respawn, you'll see the count go up by one. If you've already respawned it's usually too late. However, if you die and can QUICKLY hit start and pause the game, and exit to the main menu fast enough before you respawn, you can reload your last save and your counter should still be zero.

I would advise making a backup of your 0 deaths save file by copying it to another slot every 15 or 30 minutes, because it would suck to lose an hour or more of work if you're working off of only one save slot.

I can confirm this method works, as long as you quit out quick enough after dying that when you reload your save the counter in the top-right of the pause menu still says zero. I just got the achievement doing it this way.

If you don't want to risk quitting to the menu and reloading after deaths, even if the counter still reads zero, I would advise to go ahead and delete your main file and revert to the 'backup' save every death, but back up your save more frequently so you don't lose a ton of progress.

I had a zero death video here, but I took it down because apparently 30 seconds of "eye of the tiger" is the reason people watched a 90 minute video, SMFH @ copyright strikes. Instead, I've included my One Life mode run from the definitive edition. I didnt go to the new area in this run, so it is 99.9% identical to my original zero death run. The successful run starts at 1hr 34mins in this video.

Great if it works, still tedious though.
Doing it the "legit" way seems impossible to me.
I think I have died like 500 times, and now I am in the end of the game... Not gonna spoil anyting, but I starting to hate this game because of this part... RAGE QUiT!

It should work. Worst case scenario if it doesn't work, then whenever you die you just have to delete the save you're playing on, make a copy of your 'backup' save, and play from the copy until you make some progress and make a new backup.

I can confirm this does work! I just unlocked it by doing this method... I had two saves, a current save and a backup save which I used to overwrite my current if I died so both were identical and my death was not counted and kept repeating every time I died, even at times I don't think the death counted because I was leaving the game quick but I still used the backup just to be sure. Sucked though because my first play through trying for this Achievement the game glitched out at the very end on both my saves and if it hadn't I would of been 3rd to achieve this.. but I got 6th anyway just now xD

I also completed it under 3 hours for the Supersonic achievement, however the Elite achievement for not using an ability point did not unlock for me.. Not a single ability is unlocked in my backup save still.. does anyone know why the achievement did not pop?

I too am in the midst of my deathless run. I'm at 73%, but I wanted to mention that I drowned at a checkpoint when I was focused on something going on in my room. I had respawned and noticed that I still had zero deaths. I'm not sure whether this voids the achievement, so keep an eye out.

@Loxim

You cant backup save files on the X1, BUT, you can do so inside this game in the main menu just as you load the game. Press START, then choose a save file, then press X to copy and paste to another slot. There are 10 ingame slots.

Oh crap yeah I took that vid down ages ago because of copyright BS with the eye of the tiger song. I'll put in my zero death one from the definitive edition. It shouldnt change anything for this version because I didnt go to the new area in it, although some of the life/energy/ability cells might be slightly different.

For the death part of this playthrough, you can't simply revert to a previous save after a death if you have respawned, because somehow the game still tracks it. However, if you quit quickly enough that will work. You can check your deaths in the pause menu (the upper/right-most icon) if you're ever uncertain. For the time aspect, you'll want to make each objective of the game take no longer than 15-20 minutes. If you find that you're spending too much time perfecting a certain section (for me, I always had trouble in the Forlorn Ruins), make a backup save and practice it for a bit before doing it on your main save file.

Most people will take around two hours for the speed run, so there is still plenty of room if you ever get lost for a bit. There are plenty of speed run videos on Youtube if you want to follow one for time markers.

In fact, the achievement is not as difficult as it might seem during the first playthrough. Especially if you completed a similar achievement in Alien Isolation But first things first.

Let's start with the fact that the statistics of your deaths are shown during a pause in the upper right corner. More precisely, not deaths, but rebirths, and this is the whole secret of the achievement. In order for death to NOT COUNT, you need to have time to press pause as soon as you hear Ori's scream and exit to the main menu. Then load your save and continue.

What to do if you don’t have time: In order to protect yourself and not have to start all over again , make 2, or better yet 3-4 backup saves (Inside the game you can copy the save (button ) and paste it into an empty cell (Button )).
Update copies every 10-15 minutes or after passing difficult sections or simply when exiting to the main menu after death.

If you are not sure that you managed to exit before the revival, then it is better to enter the game through the main save and look at the statistics.

If you DO NOT have time, then go to the main menu and copy the backup entry to the main one so as not to lose the backup.

So, briefly the main points:

  • Exit to the main menu and reload the save during the death animation
  • Make 3-4 backup saves
  • Keep track of the number of deaths so as not to destroy your save in case of death
  • Update backups every 10-15 minutes.

Can be combined with the Supersonic/Super-Speed achievement (Complete the game in less than 3 hours).

But I still advise you to combine it with achievements:
Powerhouse / Powerful player (Collect all energy cells)
Master Guardian / True Guardian (Collect all life cells)
Master of the Forest / Forester (Visit 100% of the map)

IMPORTANT! If you often die in a row in one place and often reload your save, this can lead to the game freezing. It will start to crackle and then either crash or even reboot the console and, if you are connected via Wi-Fi, disconnect from live. So don’t be alarmed. . I don’t know if this is true for everyone, but it happened to me about 30 times for sure.
