How to unlock the No stone unturned achievement in Ori and the Blind Forest - Definitive Guide

Video of glitch fix/secret exploit.

There is some misconception surrounding this achievement. This achievement only applies to the SECRET areas (aka false walls that you can enter) in the game. According to the TA tracker, there are 43 of these in total. This makes sense because I unlocked the 50% achievement after 21 secret areas had registered.

Key points:

1. You only have to enter each secret area to get credit. If there's a collectible item like an energy ball or something inside you don't have to get the item for it to register.

2. SAVE before you enter each secret area! If it doesn't register, reset your XB1 and reload a save prior to getting the secret area. You can only know for sure if it registered if your achievement % increases, so this is easiest for those on a fresh gamertag with the app snapped.

3. There are 43 of these secret areas. Some ARE inside the dungeons, so they ARE missible, which will lock you out of the achievement.

4. There is currently an exploit to get extra credit for a secret area. Credit to WhiterValkyrie and to Krazie X360A for expanding on it. Video of this demonstrated is above.

1) Create a backup save (Don't think it matters when or where)
2) Find an undiscovered hidden area, enter it and create a soul link
3) Exit game, load backup save
4) Create a new soul link on the backup file somewhere
5) Exit game, load main save (should get credit for another secret)
6) Rekindle the soul link on the main save
7) Exit game, load main save, rekindle soul link again.
8) Repat step 7 until it unlocks. The video shows the old way of going back and forth between main and backup, but you only have to do that the first time. After that just reloading the main save and rekindling should work. If it doesn't, try going back and forth between the two saves and rekindling.

My theory:

The tracker increases each time you find a secret that you haven't found yet since your last 'game completion'. So lets say you have save file A and complete the game (file shows complete and can't be loaded). You have save file B where you find secrets #1-21 but stop playing. Then you have save file C where you skip secrets #1-21 but collect secrets #22-43. In my theory, the tracker will increase from 0 - 50% on save file B (regardless of what you did on file A since that file is 'completed'). Then it will increase from 50%-100% on save file C and pop No Stone (assuming none of the secrets fail to register on save file B or C).

Alternatively, if you find secret #21 again on Save File C it won't increase the % because you already found it on Save File B.

The only thing that breaks this line of thought is WhiteValkyrie's glitch to force the same secret to keep counting repeatedly. But it's a glitch and not the way the tracker is intended to function.

Also Ninja you're not boned. You can use WhiteValkyrie's glitch on a fresh save file to go from 0 to 100% on the same secret. It takes 15 or 20 minutes, but it works.

Yeah you should be ok. Skip secret #1, head to secret #2 and save before you enter it. Then hard reset your Xbox (to make sure the tracker is functioning). Then copy your save file over to create the 'backup' and carry on with the glitch. Once you've loaded and rekindled the soul link 43 times you should get your achievement mate. :)

I just want to know, the one for 50% secret, is the mid number 21 or 22? Because I got 50% when I found 21 out of 43 secrets, but obviously, the % is only 48.8%, which was not at or above 50%.

Also, the game sometimes doesn't acknowledge a secret even though you're sure you got it. Tonight, I got the map stone in Valley of Wind, which is hidden inside a secret area. The first time I entered it the game failed to register that; after the game froze and I forced a restart, the game finally registered it.

My opinion is that before entering those missable areas, please double check whether the achievement progression has tracked all those secrets.

As far as I can tell each one counts for 2.5% give or take, so 21 might have given you 50%. I'll be popping the 50% achievement soon so I should have a definitive answer. You also may have gotten double credit for one.

Could tell me the "trick" to get double credit for one secret ! I only miss one... Don't know where...

Basically you save before going into a secret area then quickly quit out to the main menu and reload your save and enter again. Sometimes you'll get credit for entering a 2nd time. If you're already at 90% or higher on the achievement and have continued on after entering all the secret areas, it's highly unlikely you'll be able to do that trick.

I'm stuck at 90% on my fresh character. One of the secret areas didn't register as far as I could tell, but that means I'm still missing 3 or 4 of them. Anyone got any ideas on the most commonly missed ones?

I've found a other trick to make secret area count many times.

- Save and create a backup.
- Continue on your current save and find a new secret zone not discovered.
- Enter in and save in it.
- Load the backup save.
- Tourn around a little and save no matter where.
- Load the current save and the secret area will be counted again.

The map contains 42 secrets, have played through the game several times and i can't find the last one.
Its the same map i posted on xboxachievements under the handle xCaStErOx (old gamertag from back in the day) but i'll link it here aswell ^^

Thanks Kaiz I'll see if I have any you're missing and which ones you have that I'm missing.

Question for everyone: Would you prefer the collectibles/secrets video in chronological order the way I found them on a fresh playthrough or organized by area? Obviously Ginsu Tree and Forlorn Ruins are all in one section, but the ones on the world map I currently have sequenced in the route I took through the game before/between dungeons.

Without a doubt life i belive the best way to do it is in order of discovery. This way you can say "Your achievement tracker percentage should be at x before and after misty woods". This way the player knows whether they counted or not for certain.

Thanks for making this also i was about to start doing it myself.

Today I found that some secrets do not count at first but suddenly count together with another one. Also, one area I definitely entered before (I got the Ability Cell already), but today as I entered again, the tracker also went up. No idea why. I now have 30 out of 43, but I'm not even sure whether I really got 30 secrets at this point.

I have videos for 42 of the 43 locations. Unfortunately I have no freaking idea where the last one is.

If they're worth 2.5% each (which I think they are), 42 would put you at 95%, so even 43 wouldn't be enough. Maybe they're worth *slightly* more than 2.5% /shrug

I just unlocked it whilst doing my immortal run. The last one o needed was in plain sight after draining the bottom right room of mount horu. But I got that one before. This leads me to believe it actually has to be done on one playthrough. As I was stuck on 90% for 3 playthroughs then when I went for my immortal run I did 100% at same time and it unlocked. There was no other areas I'd never been to before. I just did them all in one go. Instead of Skipping ones I know I've done like in previous playthroughs.

1000g for me.

just checked it Footos22 and it shouldn't classify as a secret.
on all gamertags i did a fresh run with never gave me progress there and its not hidden behind anything so it shouldn't count.
If it poped for you there though then it could be a bug, personally on my main gamertag i did the save trick on the last secret before boss room

Kaizi you said you had 42 locations? So do I, and if you're not counting that one as a secret then that means you have one that I dont... Have you checked the video against what you have?

Also I made a video demonstrating Whitevalkyrie's glitch. I got to 50% on No stone and unlocked the Seasoned Explorer achievement using the 2nd or 3rd secret area in the game over and over again. It works a charm on a fresh tag. Gonna try it to see if I can push my own % from 88 to 100.

Whitevalkyrie's glitch worked to fix it for me. I had already started a fresh playthrough and found 36 of the 42 secrets, so all I had to do to see if it would work was use it 4 or 5 times on one of the secrets in Mt Huru.

Unfortunately if you're one of the folks stuck at 88% or more and don't know which ones didn't register on your current playthrough and/or don't know which ones you haven't entered yet on that playthrough, you're going to need to either find most of the secrets on a fresh playthrough or just use the glitch on the 2nd or 3rd secret and do it about 40 times before you'll see if your tracker is increasing.

Ahhhh very interesting life about how the tracker works , that would definitely explain why my tracker went up then , i was under the impression that everyone was getting the new tracker percentage around mt.horu and not actually when finding the "missed" secret spot.

As far as whitevalks glitch again i misundrstood it seems because i was under the impression it had to be a secret not yet found by the tracker. Which is why i thought i was boned because one was still missing to be found.

Anyway thanks for the reply , i shall untie the noose around my neck and give it a third shot tomorrow.

You have to go slow. If you quit out and load a different save too fast it crashes the game quite frequently. The save you're trying to load may be corrupted though.... I didn't really have any issues and did it the full 43 times on a dummy tag for testing, only crashed once on my main tag b/c I got excited and went too fast.

I am sure this achievement is completely broken... I got the achievement for 50% around halfway through the game. I finished the game since then, collecting every single collectible and poring over every inch of the map. Now if I had 42/43 then that would be fair enough, but according to the tracker I have only discovered 24 secrets. I know for a certainty I have found WAY more than that.

By WhyattThrash on 05 Apr 2015 14:02
Yes you can do the glitch Whyatt. Just hard reset your box, start a NEW game, and do the glitch on the first or 2nd secret area. You won't see the progress going up for a while, but eventually it will when you pass enough secret area registrations that it goes above 64%. You just can't tell because the % resets each playthrough but the tracker does not.

Can anyone verify for sure that the glitch still works? I missed one of the secret areas in the tree and did the flooding scene, so I can't go back now. I'd prefer to just continue with the story and not have to restart everything again as I am going for the secrets in this playthrough.

42/43 here, pretty sure I've entered all of them though. The glitch isn't even an option as it's the last one anyway... Grr. Now to delete the entire game/saves and try again.

Also Elite didn't pop after completing the game without unlocking any abilities, so that's fun.

By Niallenev on 23 Apr 2015 12:01
The glitch is still an option if you know which one you havent entered. If you start a new game just do the glitch 43 times on the 2nd or 3rd one, once you have the rekindle ability.

I'd kinda recommend no-one play this game actually trying for these achievements until these bugs have been fixed. The context switching and tracking achievement progress will just totally ruin what's otherwise an excellent and incredibly enjoyable game.

By WhyattThrash on 23 Apr 2015 21:45
Yes as long as it's a secret area you haven't gotten on that particular playthrough. So delete all your saves and start a new playthrough, then on the 3rd or 4th secret area once you have the rekindle ability, do the trick 43 times.

Thats not necessarily true Spectre. I tested this glitch on a dummy account on a brand new start of Ori with no achievements unlocked at all. I went from 0% all the way to 100% on the 3rd secret area. If it stopped working for you, you may have somehow inadvertently walked out and back into the secret area, or perhaps the title update to fix some of the other glitches somehow impacted this.

It's only 5 days after DWilhelmsson but the glitch is still working (thankfully). I knew about the glitch about halfway through playing but didn't know if any of my secrets hadn't counted or not so I figured I'd save the glitch to the last secrets in Horu if it wasn't going to pop. Got to Horu and with three secrets left saw that the tracker said I needed six. That's when I found that the glitch can't be used on #41 or #42 (both in one of the side chambers where you shut off lava) since the whole area is apparently considered unsafe (so you can't save). But thankfully the 43rd and final secret area works with the glitch so I didn't have to go back to an old save and find a secret or do it in a new game. Thanks for the guide!

I finally got the achievement!! For those who are stuck like me, play on another account, sèap the achievement to check the progress. Enter a secret room, if nothing happen, your game is buged! Just quit the game, close it, and relaunch it.
Now you should see achievement counter to grow up when you enter a secret room! Go back to the main screen, press Y to change to your main account, snap the achievements and do the trick. When you'll reach the % where you are stuck, the % will Start to grow up!
Good luck! :p

At first the glitch wasn't working even though I tried about 10 times. When I went to the dash I noticed the gold deals and ad tiles to the right weren't there. This happens frequently and a lot of the X1s features are missing. So I went ahead and did a hard restart of the console. I loaded up ori and it crashed, then it flat out wouldn't load at all. Did another hard restart, ori loaded up just fine and went back to loading up the two saves. At this point the tracker started going up and finished the achievement in a couple of minutes. This glitch was a killer find and many thanks to all where involved in discovering this.

A couple of notes, for those who are interested:

1. The glitch still works
2. There's no need to load another savefile, just save inside a secret area, exit and load again your game (at least, this is how I got, by accident, my Achievement inside *omiss*, aka the last dungeon)

Achievement has been buggy for me as well. My workaround was to create a soul link in every secret area, exit to the game's main menu, reload that same save and suicide. My percentage would go up immediately. Had the achievement progress snapped next to the game. Helped so much. Just wanted to mention my way for future players. glhf =)

I got it thanks to this post... What doberman x mentioned helped me. I couldn't get it to work untill I verified the tracker moving up on another account. After seeing it move I switched accounts and kept doing the glitch, I had to do it 36 times before the tracker kicked in again.
Thanks for all the helpful info here... Thumbs up!

Great videos. I just followed the 100% one for each hidden area and then once I got all the abilities, I went back and completely explored the map. The ability orbs were down to the wire, there was only one left in Mt. Huru when "Phenom" unlocked.

I can confirm this still works (July 2021), playing the definitive edition on Xbox Series X. It also works with cloud gaming. To add: you don't even need to create that separate save. Just go into a secret area that you are sure counts as one in a new game, create the soul link there and re-kinde, exit, re-load until the achievement pops. The counter advances ~2.3% each time, so you will have to do this routine a total of around 43-45 times. (No surprise as there's 43 secret areas). When you're stuck at 97% like me, that means you will not see any progress until you do more than 40 iterations.

I can also confirm what BLANK0 is writing above, still works and no need to load the backup save (I had created one initially following the original guide but never loaded it).

I confirm that the glitch is still working on Jan 2022. Made on Series X. Also, no need for backup save, but I did one just to be save. The tricky part was to find a secret area that actually counted for achievement, since I did this in my 3rd run.

I can also confirm that this does work without the backup save. My god... the person who discovered this I hope gets eternal happiness. I missed 2 collectibles where you cannot return. So thank you...

I was at 78 percent. Started another playthrough , found an undiscovered secret about halfway through, created a soul link, rekindled, exit, reload, rekindle, repeat. Easy

I can confirm this glitch still works Feb 2023. Took a bit of time to register and I had to do it a couple of extra times for the final 3%, but it popped eventually

I just started this game, and after 5 secrets, the one secret ach hadn't unlocked and I had no progress on this one. Tried the glitch mentioned above and still no progress. Tried a hard reset and finally they started counting, but stopped again after about 2 minutes. Fixed again after restarting the game. Decided to pop all them now to be safe. Thanks for this! Hope none of the other achievements progress randomly stop counting too.

Does it work if you've already discovered them? I'm stuck at 88% and I can't get any of the 'tricks' to make the existing secrets that I've found give me credit anymore.

My alternat tag is at 90% and one of the secrets didn't increase the progess bar for it, so I think I've got 40 of the 43 secrets on that one and have recorded them all for a video. I just need to figure out where the 3 I'm missing are.

I'm stuck at 41 out of 43 myself, I've tried WhiterValkyrie's suggestion, but not having any luck with that. I made a new save to hit some of the early secrets, but not able to get them to double count as LucasAnimal is.

LifeExpectancy,
Can you throw up a video on an unpublished link so I can look through the secrets so far you've found and see if I notice any missing ones? Alternatively, screenshots of the locations alone on the map would be fine too.

Just wanna say WhiterValkyrie's glitch is golden and should allow you to get all secrets in just one area. To expand on it:

1) Create a backup save (Don't think it matters when or where)
2) Find an undiscovered hidden area, enter it and create a soul link
3) Exit game, load backup save
4) Create a new soul link on the backup file somewhere
5) Exit game, load main save (should get credit for another secret)
6) Rekindle the soul link on the main save
7) Exit game, load backup save, simply rekindle the soul link you already created
8) Then just jump back and forth from main and backup save, making sure to rekindle the flame each time.

So not to throw a wrench into conventional thinking here but i just experienced something does doesnt make sense...

My first playthrough i combed the game looking for secrets as i enjoyed the game, ended the game w 95% found.

Second playthrough i attempted the supersonic , elite and immortal run not caring about secrets and prolly locating 20 in total. Elite glitched so to try again i deleted all my saves and reinstalled the game to start fresh.

Now in my second attempt at elite i just finished the ginsa tree while i was trying to locate all the secrets. After looking at my tracker its now at 97% and it def wasnt after my second playthrough.

So ultimately im boned as im missing one secret and somewhere along the line a secret counted mid game.

I want to note that I followed these instructions:

1) Create a backup save (Don't think it matters when or where)
2) Find an undiscovered hidden area, enter it and create a soul link
3) Exit game, load backup save
4) Create a new soul link on the backup file somewhere
5) Exit game, load main save (should get credit for another secret)
6) Rekindle the soul link on the main save
7) Exit game, load backup save, simply rekindle the soul link you already created
8) Then just jump back and forth from main and backup save, making sure to rekindle the flame each time.

but accidentally found that after step 5, if you just continue to load the main save over, rekindle, exit, then load the main save again, itll keep giving you progress towards the achievement.

Great solution. Just to throw in my two cents, I noticed on my first playthrough I was only at about 80% with two secrets left to go that I knew I hadn't discovered. I used the glitch fix method described on the next secret that I found and it "caught up" my tracker to 97%, but wouldn't go further.

My point is that if you are using this method and your tracker is not going up past a certain percentage, you may not have found all the secret areas.

Just to confirm, I did this using an existing back up. I'd finished the game on my main save and was missing a couple but just loaded up a late game back up I'd made, found the nearest undiscovered secret area (one which I definitely had picked up in my main save, so that doesn't matter) and created a soul link, exit, reload, rekindle, repeat. Can confirm that no switching of save files was needed, just continued to load the same file over and over again. Great find, thanks for the guide!

Can confirm that it still works as of May 31st - Took me about 20-30 tries before the % started going up, Seems like the game goes by the order of reaching that "secret area", so it might take some tries before you actually get to the ones that you missed

I’m a little late to the party here but I can confirm that the glitch still works. My tracker was stuck at 78% and frustration was setting in. For me, I made the back up save once, created a new save in it, jumped back to the main save file, entered an undiscovered secret area, saved, rekindled, exited, then just quit and rekindled a bunch of times until it finally popped for me. RELIEF.

Do not exit the secret area at all! Just load, rekindle, quit and repeat.

All 43 Secret areas.

The ones in Ginso Tree, Misty Woods and Forlorn Ruins are all missable.

The areas are shown in the order they can be obtained in the game, however some were missed first time round, hense the amount of life/energy cells not being consistent.

There are reports of the tracker glitching. If this happens to you, check out LifeExpectancy's guide for a possible fix.

Secrets only refer to the areas that are hidden behind the walls that become invisible once you walk up to them. You don't have to pick up the items that are inside to get credit.

Snap your achievement app and look if you get credit for the secret you are entering. If not, reload the game and enter it until you do.

If you already have some untracked secrets and don't know which ones you missed, LifeExpectancy has a great solution for this problem in his guide.

For this achievements you need to find 43 locations of secret areas hidden on the map. It is known to be glitchy and it sometimes doesn't want to work, but i think i found a solution. It can be harsh if you have 90% and doesnt know which locations you missed.

I need to add that for this guide I HAVEN'T played this game on DEFINITIVE EDITION and I dont know if it works in this version. I know that in original Ori and the blind forest worked fine.

To do this achievement you need to delete your save files on xbox (I played on xbox one) of Ori and the blind forest, and after that make sure to cancel the synchronization. You need to play fresh game of Ori where you havent finished game even once (at least I think that completing the game is the main issue when after that you cannot unlock this achievement). After that you need to look up on the guide where are all of the secrets and visit every single one (I dont know if you need to visit every one but i personally recomend to be absolutely sure). I personally recomend to use Erutaerc's guide because he shows those location in order that you can acquire them (at least the most). If you are good at this game you can easily complete it in 2-4 hours of playing.

I hope I helped and remember to complete other runs if you're trying for different achievement before deleting save data.

To unlock this achievement, you must find all of the areas that are hidden behind fake walls/obscured by the foreground art. These areas can simply be jumped into, but you don't really know they are there at first. There is an ability upgrade later in the game that will make these areas semi-transparent to be able to find them easier. There are 43 total to find.

There are four missable areas (Ginso Tree, Forlorn Ruins, Misty Woods, Mount Horu) that can not be returned to, so be extra careful during these sections. Before entering Mount Horu, you want to have 90% on your achievement tracker, as there are five areas there. Keep a save outside of this location in case the achievement glitches though. See the Warning below for more about that.

For a full list of secrets with accompanying screenshots, see this thread. This image has all of them circled on the big map as well.

Or you can use this video:

WARNING: This achievement is very glitchy. If you are having any problems with this achievement, the following helpful glitch can be used to unlock the achievement using the same secret area over and over. My tracker was stuck at 97% and this worked for me.

If the achievement is glitched, then you can use the method shown in this video
It is advisable to delete the profile from the console and then restore it to reset the glitched achievements.
