How to unlock the Speed Demon achievement in Ori and the Will of the Wisps - Definitive Guide

The developer's ghost to beat isn't the Dev26485 whatever on the leaderboards. It is a default purple ghost that you race the first time you do any Spirit Trial during the campaign. Simply beat this ghost on all 8 trials for this one.

Of note: the game disables all of your shards except Sticky when you start a race. You used to be able to pause and re equip shards but per user report below that has been disabled. Dash is crucial, knowing WHEN to dash. A video is not necessary for this one as you have the ghosts to race. However, I have included race activation points (finish lines) in the collectibles video.

I never loaded backup saves for this run.

Thinking back, there was definitely a point- likely after the hand to hand quest- when keystones were clearly marked like everything else on the map. Even from way across the map.

I was short one keystone as I was nearing the end of my normal playthrough and finishing sidequests. I had tried to get through Midnight Burrows earlier in my run and couldn't, but must've gotten one keystone there, left, and used it on a different keystone door. When I eventually went back to that area for the sidequest, I collected the three keystones the map showed that were there and needed a fourth, but the only keystones left on the map for me were the four for the last remaining keystone door in Baur's Reach (to a time trial). I got one there so I could finish the Midnight Burrows sidequest for the sidequest achievement, finished the game and cleaned up collectibles, and here I am with three keystones and none on my map.

I'm willing to bet that opening a keystone door makes it so the expected nearby keystones disappear from the map, making it so the one I missed is actually there somewhere, just not indicated. I'll use the story walkthrough later today to explore areas with keystone doors to see if I can find it.

So in progressing through the game in likely a bit of a wonky order, I got screwed up with keystones. I think. I'm pretty sure I got some wires crossed where I got a keystone in one area, then left and used it in a different area. Fast forward and I'm at the end of the gane having gotten all collectibles (that achievement popped but max energy and life didn't), but I have three keystones left over and none showing anywhere on the map. I still need to unlock a 4 keystone door to the final Spirit Trial (in Baur's Reach).

I remember that keystones were showing up on my map and since there are none left visible, either one glitched out or one is there and is just not indicated on the map for whatever reason. It could literally be any keystone in the game and without knowing specifically where they are all are initially, I don't know that it's realistic for me to track it down even if it was assuredly there somewhere.

Now as of my writing this achievement says "Complete all Spirit Trials" in the dashboard.

Maybe that is how they broke the other achievements, tinkering with this one? Are you sure you arent looking at the "complete all spirit shrines" one? That one is the combat shrines (and is redundant with the shard slots upgrade achievement). This one was for beating the dev's ghost when I unlocked it.

Can confirm that the speed demons description now states “Complete All Spirit Trials.” Weird 🤔

Thanks for the tip about re-equipping the shards; I was wondering why my triple jump (which is essential for fast climbing) wasn't working during the races.

@LifeExpectancy - the description does say "Complete All Spirit Trials" but a simple completion does not move that % tracker. So I believe it might still be looking for beating the dev timer.

The race in inkwater Marsh won't allow me to race. The spirit trail start point isn't even on the map??? Anyone know a reason why that might be? It's the last race I have to do, was wondering if there's a solution or if I'm gunna have to start a new save.... Any help would be great!

Did you activate it at the race's finish line? Each race must be activated on any give playthrough.

There is only 8 spirit trials and not 9 like mentionned in the guide.

Solution updated. The trials arent too bad without triple jump tbh. Originally I was racing against leaderboard ghosts which can be hard to beat. The purple default ghost to beat for the achievement isnt too bad. The routes are all pretty short too, so easy to practice.

Is there an indicator anywhere which let's you know which ones you beat the dev on?

I can’t seem to find a way to re-activate triple jump - is this still possible or has an update prevented this?

Triple Jump is a shard that must be equippd.

The solution needs to be updated because the View button is now disabled during the time trial so no more reenabling Triple Jump.

Congrats Moon Studios on yet another tedious set of timed challenges. Here's your reward: I'm never playing any of your games again.

If you finish the hand to hand quest it should show keystones on your map. Finish that quest to reveal everything and look VERY closely at your map as you are prob overlooking it.

The achievements have been glitched but the collectibles in-game have been very consistent. I have not encountered any that glitched and disappeared or didnt show up on the map properly.

I finished that quest and went through to collect everything for the all collectibles achievement, which popped. I promise the missing keystone is not there. I've scoured my map very closely. I just recorded a video to show you- take a look and maybe you see something that I don't.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9TKgAnOjO4

I'm bored enough to go to the few areas I haven't explored for the missing 1% in a few areas in the unlikely event that it's in one of those places.

I know I had accidentally brought a keystone with me from Midnight Burrows on one run. Perhaps there or bauers reach? There are only a handful of keystone doors.

Were you quitting out to menu to reload backup saves to get the immortal achievement this run? I do recall that doing that broke one of the collectibles for me on my 1st run.

Only other thing I can think of is that keystones dont show up on the map from the hand to hand quest and only show up when you are near them, since they arent really collectibles, just there for the doors.

That sucks. But yeah just control+f search for keystone on the WT to find areas where they should be.

Found it. It was the one in the Silent woods that you need to use the feather to push an exploding enemy into a blob of yellow spikes: https://i.imgur.com/w3rveUE.png

I must have came here after finding one of the keystones in Midnight Burrows, found the other three to open this door, and the map must not have ever shown this one for whatever reason. Maybe because the associated door was open by the time I revealed all items on the map.

Glad u found it man!Yeah I think the keystones only show up on map when you get near them. After that they stay on the map even if far away, but you have to get near them first before they show up. Your issue seems to confirm that. Well done!

I notice the Xbox Live description of this achievement is "Complete all spirit trials"

Did the criteria and description change with the latest patch?

Anyone else having issues with this unlocking? Just completed the 8th trial, dev ghost beaten on all of them, and no achievement. Can't believe there's still some achievement bullshit even after the big patch that was supposed to fix everything

No, this can be done on an Easy mode save. The only difficulty specific ach is hard mode.

Ah so you actually have to beat the time that rewards you with spirit lights?

Was hoping you just had to cross the finish line as I suck at these.

@Gilbert I was never able to get the height needed out of the spirit trial, but I got it every time during the actual race...

You have to beat a default time set for each one (purple ghost, much more forgiving than the leaderboard times).

Every Silent Woods spirit trial video I've found was posted in March 2020 and relies entirely on getting extra lift from the mud bubble at the end to win. I'm pretty sure that's been patched out now because I can't replicate it even when practicing with Triple Jump on. Can anyone else still do that now?

Not that it matters... I managed to beat the time for them all except silent woods, which I can't even complete (constantly confusing buttons on that one)

EDIT: ok now I can manage to finish it, but I still really suck at interacting with those dirt balls...

EDIT 2: OMG I did it. watched a video and saw the easiest way to do those dirt balls is from the bottom, and then move in the direction you want to go right after. and that a double jump towards the 2nd dirt ball will put you right under it.

Spirit Trials are races where Ori has to travel from the starting point to the finish point as fast as possible. To activate them, Ori needs to locate and interact with the finish point first, and then head to the starting point to begin the race. There are 8 Spirit Trials and their locations are as follows:

  1. Inkwater Marsh
  2. Kwolok's Hollow
  3. The Wellspring
  4. Baur's Reach
  5. Mouldwood Depths
  6. Luma Pools
  7. Windswept Wastes
  8. Silent Woods (finish point is inaccessible until the active ability Launch is acquired)

When racing for the first time, a semi-transparent spirit would appear as well and race against Ori. This is the developer's ghost and Ori must reach the finish point before it does. It should be noted that Ori does not have access to the Spirit Shard skill Triple Jump and the active ability Launch, and the trials in late-game areas can be a little challenging, so some practice is recommended.

Please refer to the Hand to Hand quest in "Completionist" or the following video for the locations of all Trials. All credit goes to its maker, Trophygamers.
