How to unlock the Building a good reputation achievement in Outcast - Second Contact - Definitive Guide
This is not nearly as hard as it sounds. If you're going for all achievements, you will definitely get this along the way, as long as you're not murdering civilians like it's GTA.
I was able to get this to unlock less than half way through the game, before getting my second Mon. I basically cleaned up all the achievements in Shamazaar (the starting area), Talanzaar (only has two area-specific achievements), and had just started working on the ones for Okasankaar when it popped.
Really all you have to do is help the people (a lot of which you have to do for the main story anyway) and try not to kill innocents (so be careful where you drop those explosives).

Do you know if you can make ant mistakes and still get this? I accidentally shot Mazar's chest at the beginning of the game when I first got to the first village. Now he is pissed at me for "destroying his house" He seems to think I blew the chest up with dynamite even though I only shot it a couple times with my gun and it broke open. I would hate to play through the game and miss this because of that when I am still at the beginning and could just revert to my first save. But I would also hate to lose the couple of hours I have put in already.

Honestly I don't know for sure. It seems like the game uses a points system so I would expect that you can do enough good to cancel that out and you'll just unlock the achievement later on.
A quick google turned up a steam forum post where someone said your reputation fixes itself over time, but again, I can't say for sure if that's accurate.

Killing soldiers and doing main and side quests will increase your reputation which you can ask any leader about what its currently at, i had got this with about 50% sidequests complete.
