How to unlock the Proper Penance achievement in Outlast 2 - Definitive Guide

Very simple to unlock and the best place to do it uninterrupted is Chapter 3: Lamentations, Sub-Chapter: The Lake.

The reason I recommend this part of the game and not anywhere earlier is because there are no enemies around here and the beach stretches for a good long while so a few crawls across it and you will unlock the achievement/trophy very easily.

This is a great place to get the achievement. I think it's important to point out that you need to crawl for 500 metres without stopping to net the achievement. Also be careful not to press the left thumb stick cn_LS or you will begin to run thus voiding the achievement.

@xLastShadow - did you hold B to go fully into crawl mode? Pressing it only puts you in crouch mode, that's the mistake I made!

I just got this after stopping and checking to see what I was doing wrong.. I stood up, ran to a different spot and started crawling again. Popped after 30 seconds...

I did this after

and finding myself on a roof - I just crawled down the metal walkway towards one door and then sharply turned, while constantly moving, back towards the way I came from. Rinse and repeat, no threat of enemies.

I believe this achievement is accumulative. After finishing the game for the first time, I chapter selected the lake segment as was suggested. The video guide above said it took about 10 minutes, but I crawled for about 2 minutes (I timed it) and the achievement popped.

This is a very easy trophy. Hold to go prone, then just crawl around for 500 meters but do note that it may take around 10 minutes before you have crawled far enough to trigger the trophy.

This does not mean on your knees, but in a lying position. It will take 5 minutes. You can do it anywhere, but it’s better to choose a place where there are no enemies, a relatively flat surface and you don’t have to cling to ledges and constantly go around various obstacles. One of the most convenient places where you can “comfortably” crawl on your belly is a long school corridor. There's a flat floor.

Two rubber bands placed like this are very helpful in obtaining this trophy. It takes 40 minutes.

You can forget it in a few minutes in chapter 3. Jeremiah's Lament is pouring blood, in the same place as the Slip and Slip trophy. When blood starts flowing from the ceiling, run away (L3) and hold down the circle, so the main character on his belly will fly 10 meters at once.
