How to unlock the Them That Hath Ears achievement in Outlast 2 - Definitive Guide

*UPDATE* As of a few days ago a patch went out, using the microphone no longer drains batteries. All you need to do is stand still for 20 minutes after pulling out your camera using cn_RB and then pressing cn_left.

xTGE is right, it is easier to do early in the game, however if you're like me and want a quantitative answer, then you'll need 7 batteries. Each battery lasts roughly 3 minutes when you only use the microphone function.

You don't have to actually be moving for this to track, I stood still for the entire duration of the battery every time I would use the microphone function, just make sure it's lit up.

As mentioned by Maka91, dying and reloading a checkpoint doesn't seem to track properly. It's advised to just get this when you have a surplus of batteries.

Yeah that's what I did when I was going for the achievement. Each time I would let the microphone icon go out completely

Dying and then replaying doesn't seem to work for me. I've drained 11 batteries for the lsat 30+ minutes and haven't unlocked it yet. Think you need to go to the main menu and reselect the chapter to start it over for it to be able to count up again.

The most recent update supposedly makes it so that the microphone doesn't use batteries anymore

Actually I think the microphone change is only active on PC at the moment, Xbox update may have just been bug fixes. But I expect we will get the update soon because they made quite a few changes to make normal mode easier

Alright, well until Xbox receives that update, the microphone still requires batteries. Thanks for the heads up.

Do you know if you can use up the battery with the mic, die, then repeat over and over?

@Maka91, it took me over a hour to get this achievement. The first time I tried it, I had tracked it for 35 minutes, so I tried dying and restarting from a checkpoint, that didn't work. I decided to wait a day and continue the game and tried it again timing it. After 22 minutes it unlocked. A few people I've talked to about this have said it's a little buggy

Just wanted to add my 2 cents as to how I picked this up just now. Finished up my first runthrough early hours of this morning before heading out to work, barely used the microphone during my playthrough. Got home from work and fired the game up, hit "Load Game" to resume play from the final save point of the game.

Pulled up my camera when I was finally able to, switched the mic on and left it running until the battery died and then reloaded the camera (must have only had 1 battery left at the end). Once I had used all the battery left for my camera's mic I headed to trigger the end of the game and pressed "B" to skip the end credits sending me back to the main menu.

Hit "Load Game" again, did this about 3 times total and it unlocked, used my phones stopwatch whilst doing this and clocked 15 minutes and 17 seconds so this seemed to work for me!

This achievement can be started from the moment you wake up in the crash. You simply just need to push cn_left on the D-PAD and the microphone will turn on. The microphone will drain your battery over time so search for batteries and you'll nab this early into your playthrough!

If you try this on any difficulty above normal then batteries become more and more rare the higher you go.

Thanks to the latest patch the microphone doesn't drain the battery anymore so you can have it turned on while you're exploring the world and the trophy will pop automatically. :)

To use the microphone, press when you have the camera out. It records the sound of anything that the camera is pointing at. It is useful for tracking the enemies' movements behind walls and buildings. With the latest patch, using the microphone no longer consumes battery. This must also be done in a single playthrough but you can't die and restart the checkpoint as doing so will reset the timer. Once you have used the microphone for 20 minutes, the trophy will pop.

You need to use the microphone for 20 minutes in one playthrough. Reloading a checkpoint also resets the counter for this trophy. A total of 7 batteries are required. It will be easiest to do it on normal difficulty, there are a lot of batteries there.
