I got this without even trying, did it straight after doing the 1mil achievement (follow the advice on that solution) I hit 2.8mil by the end of the 15th stage.

so in summary:

1) try to slipstream as much a you can - even waiting behind cars so you're in the slipstream when you over take
2) don't drift unless you HAVE to - when drifting you're not in slipstream
3) overtake cleanly you get like 2x the score
4) overtake as much whilst in slipstream this nets you like 50k for a rival, 17.5k for a bus/truck and 3k for a car.
5) don't go off the road/crash - kinda obvious ;)

if you take that in to consideration you'll be well on the way to 2.5mil i would suggest going for the 1mil achievement first though

This achievement seems like a daunting task at first, but once you know how to effectively get points, it’s not so bad. One thing that will help you out TREMENDOUSLY, is the fact that you CAN do this achievement with the game difficulty being on Very Easy, this helps out a lot, and really doesn’t effect the outcome of how many points you get, plus you get an ample amount of time to complete this, so there is absolutely no worry about running out of time. My suggestion is to completely disregard the amount time left.

So recap: OutRun 15 Course Continuous Mode, Very Easy difficulty. Remember how the points work and draft and overtake as much as you can! Mainly concentrate on drafting trucks and the rival cars, but throw in as many cars as possible. You should have absolutely no problem getting this achievement really. I had 2.5 million by the time I ended the 12th stage, and got a total of 3.2 million.

Here is a refresher chart on the point system:

Pass a car without drafting – 1500 pts.
Pass a car after drafting – 3000 pts.
Pass a car after hitting it – 750 pts.

Pass a truck – 7500 pts.
Pass a truck after drafting – 15000 pts.
Pass a truck after hitting it – 3750 pts.

Pass a rival car – 25000 pts.
Pass a rival car after drafting – 50000 pts.
Pass a rival car after hitting it – 12500 pts.

Don’t forget that while you’re drafting, however long you are going over the cars maximum speed, your point counter turns blue and goes up substantially faster than drafting under the cars maximum speed.
