How to unlock the Minion Lover achievement in Overlord II - Definitive Guide

This solution will get you both the "Minion Lover" achievement for collecting 5,000 lifeforce, and the secret "Gnome Grinder" achievement for killing 1,000 gnomes. You must have all 5000 lifeforce at one time to unlock the achievement.

First you need to forge "The Evil Eye" helmet; this will double all lifeforce you pick up. (It is also the helmet needed to go with the Elemental Armor for the Blue Steel Look achievement.)

Next, go to Everlight Facility and draw out all brown minions - as many as you can. I recommend at least 40.

Go out to the main road and hang a right toward the facility. Go down the long hallway to the first room. In the very first room you enter, there will be a floor switch on the left side in a short hallway. Plant all of your minions about 10-15 feet from the doorway where the gnomes will come from, then draw back about 5-8 minions to keep with you.

Sweep your minions over the floor switch to release the infinite supply of gnomes and let the carnage begin. Just run in occasionally to pick up lifeforce and use the minions you have with you to chase down any that escape.

Just watch out for the gnomes that attach to you and explode. If you get low on health, just run back to the Netherworld gate and heal up. If the gnomes stop coming out (happens occasionally) just leave the map and come back.

Same method I used, as an addition I split a group of Browns into 15, 10 and 15. Put the 15 on the right and left just above the stairs and blocking off the two "escape" routes either side and the 10 in the middle and used 5 blues to gather the lifeforce (invisible when sweeping). Hardly any gnomes got through (if too many get by the others stop coming and it's irksome to gather them all up). If you put the minions too close to the entrance/exit of the Gnome cage then a lot of lifeforce get's trapped inside, hence the placement just past the stairs.

Yeah its funny you would post this. Just last night I was getting the Green minion hive and thought to myself "This would be a Great spot to farm a few achievements". Nice work man.

Thanks. It worked really well and didn't take long at all.

Do you know if this achievement is for collecting 5000 cumulative orbs throughout the whole game, or does the sum of browns + greens + reds + blues available at a particular instant in time have to equal 5000 ?
I've bashed 1000 gnomes and I'm trying to decide whether to stay here for this achievement, or move on to continue the rest of the game. I don't want to do the latter if when my minions die it takes me further the 5000 orbs target.

You must have 5000 orbs all at the same time. The color doesn't matter as long as the total adds up to 5000.

I found that I did not need to keep sweeping minions over the floor switch. I just stood back near the stairs, propped my controller up against my coffee table leg (so right trigger is held down), and then just left it for 50 minutes.

I got this achievement with only 3000 current orbs. The 5000 was based on total gathered, not current.

I just got the achievement, and it did not unlock until I had +3600 currently on hand. =3

@ Zonf86,Hehe, I did the same, I taped it up with masking tape and voila, chatting while achievement hunting, couldn't be simpler 83

Just got this at 4100 minions. I had done everything in the game except the final battle so it seems to be cumulative. This was done on 12/12/15.

I didn't think about using tape to hold down the trigger. Just did that it made it a whole lot easier. Too bad I didn't know about this place when I was doing the gnome achievement. For that one I surfed the web while holding down the trigger. But oh well.

I did everything listed in the solution by weisguy9 but just to confirm you don't need to have all 5000 at one time (you may need to have it on one save file though). I just got the achievement and I only have about 4100 total right now.

I ended up following his location and just standing below the stairs facing the gnome hole and just holding down the RT button (using 40 browns) to keep sending them over and over. Took some time but worked.

I am confirming that you don't need them all at once. I Just got this and I have around 3,000 orbs.

And another confirmation that you don't need to have 5000 lifeforce at once. Achievement unlocked and had about 4200 total.

First make sure you have the “Evil Eye” Helmet as this doubles all lifeforce gained. Next head to the Everlight Facility and draw as many brown minions as you can as well as 5 blues (the blues aren’t required, but make gathering the lifeforce easier) and enter through the main gate, on your left is a 5 Minion switch. Activating this will release a constant supply of Gnomes.
Split the group of Browns into 15, 10 and 15. (if you have a full Horde size, if not scale down accordingly) Put the 15 on the right and left just above the stairs and blocking off the two "escape" routes either side and the 10 in the middle, all on guard markers (hit ) and use the 5 blues to gather the lifeforce (invisible when sweeping). Hardly any gnomes get through (if too many get by they stop coming and you must then kill the escapees in the square just behind you). If you put the minions too close to the entrance/exit of the Gnome cage then a lot of lifeforce get's trapped inside, hence the placement just past the stairs.

This will get you the minion Lover and Gnome Grinder achievements, as well as many gems for forging.

You can farm this at the same place that you farm the Gnome Grinder trophy. Return to the Everlight facility as the overlord and open up the first Gnome cage, and then just keep feeding minions at the gnomes as they come out.

The best place to farm Lifeforce Orbs is in the Everlight Facility, after you open the main gate and enter with the Overlord you will see a prison full of gnomes to your left, just open and hold cn_RT towards the opening that your minions will kill them and capture Lifeforce Orbs, it is highly recommended that you use The Evil Eye helmet, which doubles the amount of Lifeforce Orb obtained.

You should farm this at the same location you kill the gnomes at and should use the Evil Eye Helmet for best and fastest results. You will get plenty of red crystals as well.

After completing the Everlight Facility and receiving green minions, go to the forge and create an "Evil Eye helmet" (doubles the number of Life Force drops. Forge Stone from Nordberg is required). Then go to the Everlight Facility again and get all the brown minions. Walk straight ahead along the main entrance and turn left. Open the cage with the gnomes by pressing the button and stand in the middle of the stairs facing the cage. Press and hold , your minions will kill gnomes and collect dropped orbs. Collect spheres until you get the trophy.

You will also receive the Gnome Grinder trophy

Runs in the same place as Gnome Grinder.

In the mission "Into the Depts" there will be a place where gnomes endlessly respawn. As soon as souls stop falling from the gnomes, we go to the tower and back.

There is also a helmet in the forge that doubles the number of souls
