This has to be done in an Online Match (And yes you can boost with friends by just inviting them to a battle)
Good News! If boosting you don't need 4 boosters. I've personally confirmed you can go to "Team Battle", invite a friend, and sign in a dummy account. Player 1 picks the mech, then makes sure that Number of Pilots is set to 2. Player 2 clicks the bar over that mech.
The opposing booster picks any mech, and sets their team color to something different.
Now win 5 matches.

You can do this with 2 people or 1 person with a dummy account. I did it with a friend on the same team and set the opposing team as a bot.

Not only works with a dummy account, but also a simple guest account as well. Just unlocked it that way. Me, a friend and a guest account on the other bot.
