How to unlock the Hack the Planet achievement in Overwatch 2 - Definitive Guide

Easiest way it seems is to do your run on a good defensive map. I got it on Volskaya Industries, on defense. Before the round started I ran to the attackers side of the arch and entered the building on the left side facing the enemy spawn.

Once the match starts wait a seconds until the enemies should be at the gate. Throw your translocator in a good hiding spot, then turn invisible and go behind the easiest target, preferably someone in the back. As soon as you complete the hack activate the translocator to remain safe. Once everything recharges just repeat.

Now the only thing you have to hope for is a good team to keep the point long enough for you to get quite a few hacks done.

Good guide, pretty much summed it up, I did it on Illios well map, this does have to be in one round. Hacking a health-pack and placing transponder on it is a good strategy, it allows you to take some damage after the hack if your trying to get some damage done.

Avoid Junkrat traps and Symmetra turrets and keep an eye on the time remaining to teleport is easy to get distracted and not be able to get out.

I needed to hack 20 players before it would unlock, either that or it was really badly delayed

EMP'd enemies, using the ult, also counts towards this achievement.

Someone on playstationtrophies.com confirmed that hacking people using your Ult doesn't count.

Ult doesn't count. You have to use the hack ability 15 times. I had 12 hacks without dying, ran into a group and landed my ult on 3 people, no pop. I had to retreat and get the last three using the ability.

I did it on Temple Of Anubis during Objective B, btw. If you're playing on offense, you can do a hit and run strategy. Go invisible, find someone not paying attention, hack them, and run away to the front of the temple. Rinse and repeat. Gotta be very patient.

good tip is hack a health pack and try to teleport back to it or near it, so in case you're hurt after your scouting to get your hack you can replenish health instantly, and even better if the health pack is hacked that way it respawns much faster.

Will this work between rounds or one round, one life?

Not sure if this has been tweaked or something. But i definitely did not get 15 hacks with my ability alone. I used 2 ults and achievement popped after 2nd use of ult. I activated my last ult just as the match was ending and achievement popped up during the play of the game.

Yeah, the ult definitely added to my total to get me to 15. I guess they must have patched it.

Only took me about four rounds of trying to finally unlock. Thanks!

Overwatch 2 Solution
What does Hack do?
Hack is bound to Sombra's Secondary Fire which is cn_LT by default.
Sombra can hack enemies, health packs, Torbjörn's turret, and Ashe's B.O.B. Hack has an 4 second cooldown and takes .85 seconds to hack. If you are damaged, Hack will be cancel.
These are the following effects when you hack:
Effects:
  • Team: Show health bar
  • Team: Shows if their ultimate is available
  • Team: Reveal through wall
  • Sombra: +40% damage
Time: 8 seconds

Effect: Stops them from using their abilities and ultimates. Some passive abilities are hacked as well.
Time: 1.75 seconds
If you happen to EMP all five of the opposing team, along with it being very beneficial to this achievement, you will also unlock
Overwatch 2Power OutageThe Power Outage achievement in Overwatch 2 worth 35 pointsHack 5 enemies at once as Sombra in Quick or Competitive Play.

How do I unlock Hack the Planet?
You must hack 15 enemies without dying (only enemies will count towards this achievement.).
  • Place your Translocator in your backline where the enemy team most likely won't destroy it
  • Flank around the enemy with Thermoptic Camo
  • Find an unsuspecting enemy to hack and hack them
  • Teleport back
  • Rinse and repeat
You can press cn_back to check the numbers of enemies hacked. Hacking via EMP also raises this number and does count towards the achievement.
Remember that if you die, this number may not reflect achievement progress.

I used the Xbox DVR to record this, so you won't see the achievement unlock. It unlocks near the end (once I start to fight.)
While this was recorded on the original Overwatch, it still shows a decent example for Overwatch 2

What maps are the best? What about Quick Play vs. Competitive?
Defending on Escort or Assault maps. Control maps are okay, but it felt more difficult getting hacks there since games seemed to finish faster.
Maps with single choke points (like Eichenwalde) could make it more difficult to flank successfully.

Apparently this must be done in a single round. If this is true, it is practically impossible to get this on a Control map and Competitive Games are actually going to be worse than Quick Play because of their shorter times.

How do I boost this achievement?
The Lockdown Method
This is the most common method to boost Overwatch that requires 10 people.
  1. Get a group of 10 people.
  2. Get into two groups of 5
  3. Disable cross play
  4. Queue for Quick Play Open Queue at the same time and hope it matches you guys up
  5. Once you match up, start hacking the people from the other team. Get 15 and the achievement is yours.
Remember to keep the objective contested unless it's a Control map which will not need contesting unless someone captured it.

I knew you could get both in one go, but I didn't think about putting it in the guide (which is why I think you posted this comment), so I'll add it to the guide.

On the contrary, you might just be confirming that EMP counts towards this achievements, which helps those in doubt (I personally got this twice with EMP).

This might be a little simplistic of an answer but the way i ended up getting it was by hanging around the 200 health pack and jump pad on Oasis. I just hacked the health pack, threw down a translocator, popped stealth and used the jump pad to get above everyone. Ideally there will be someone you can hack from the high point because people tend to ignore Sombra when she's up high but even if there isn't it's easy to catch people unaware when they're concentrating on higher value targets like your tanks or healers.
I wasn't actively trying to get the achievement at the time I was just trying to play around with the jump pad to see if it made Sombra more of a nuisance on oasis so i don't even think you have to play it particularly cautiously just get in try to hack someone and then harass until you feel it's time to get the hell out of the thick of things, rinse and repeat.

I got this as the Attacking side of Eichenwalde. I tried to stay out of sight most of the time, hacking them from behind or alone, and fleeing if I start taking damage (you'll see many near-death experiences in a clip I put on this). I actually hacked 17 enemies in a single life, on Quick Play which would be an easier place to get the achievements, if it doesn't require team setup and teamwork kind of things that is. Anyway, here it is. Also, I usually post a clip of how I completed an achievement on the TrueAchievements group on Xbox One.

| Instructions |
01. When approaching enemies, throw the translocator beacon to a safe place.
02. Turn on Camouflage (Invisibility) and look for the enemy.
03. Hack the enemy and teleport to the translocator beacon.
04. And so 15 times

Tip #01 | Try to approach the enemy from behind.
Or hack an enemy who is engaged in battle with your ally.

Tip #02 | Don't get into trouble.
No need to rush into a crowd of opponents, remember you only have 200 HP!

Tip #03 | Just focus on the trophy!
Don't hack first aid kits or try to kill someone. Only hacking opponents!

Tip #04 | If someone pays attention to you and is trying to force a fight, do not fall for this provocation.
Teleport to the translocator beacon, remember your goal!

Tip #05 | It seemed to me that the easiest way to make a trophy is on maps with accompanying cargo in the attack.
It’s also not bad in “Hold Points” modes like Nepal, Ilios, etc.

If you follow all the tips, you won’t need many games, trophy easy
