How to unlock the Molten Cores achievement in Overwatch 2 - Definitive Guide
If the Achievement is not popping, it may be a syncing issue with XBox Live. Check if you have the spray, if you have the spray, you've done it. Try turning off your XBox, and/or opening and observing the achievements tab. It may just take time to sync with the Xbox servers. There are other, more detailed explanations on how to fix this, but when it happened to me with the Christmas cheevs, it just took time.
This is a seasonal achievement for the Archives event. These and other Archive achievements should reappear every year around this time.
This achievement takes place on the King's Row map for the Uprising mission. For an overview of enemy types, placements, and timings, please see the other guides for Normal, Hard, and Legendary difficulty, as the enemies are much the same.
In this mode, according to AES0P the difficulty is set to Expert for enemy damage and health. The big difference is when any enemy is killed, they drop lava exactly like Torb's Molten Core. This sticks around for a few seconds and can shred your health and also eats shields like Orisa's and Reinhardt's barriers.
Teamwork, communication, and smart hero picks are essential for this mode.
Do not be afraid to fall back and wait for the lava to disappear. For the escort section, focusing on slicers to keep the payload moving is not a bad idea as it minimizes your time trying to dodge the lava. Cut right to take out the Bastion turret after the door breach, then range the second turret after the first Orisa is dead while waiting for the Tank Bastion to spawn. Keep heals up and work together.
Hero Recommendations
Tank-----
Orisa - in my game, I played Orisa. Killing enemies at range keeps her safe, plus her gravity bomb is useful in grouping enemies together for easy kills. Her shield has 550 hp, and does take damage from the lava. Do not be afraid to use it, though, as the 10 second cooldown is more than enough. Her Halt State can give her a few extra seconds to push through the lava for a kill or to escape as it reduces damage. Her Ultimate ability is very useful during payload defence and storming the last section. Do not be afraid to use it, as you get it back fairly quickly.
I do not recommend other Tanks as they are generally too close range and don't have the group damage potential and survivability of Orisa.
Healer-----
I recommend 2 healers as this mode is rough on health.
Lucio - his group healing will keep everyone topped off while Mercy focuses on healing critical targets. His Boop ability is useful to knock slicers and the bomb away from the payload. His Sonic Barrier Ultimate can help save the group from being overrun and drowned in lava. Paired with Mercy's Valkyrie heal or damage boost, this can mop up enemies and clear waves.
Moira - Including her based off of AES0P's recommendation, and thinking about it, she could be a solid primary healer. Her dodge gets her through and across lava easily, her orbs can do solid healing or damage, and her Ultimate can sweep across the field and heal and damage anything. For those of us who were Moira mains for the Retribution event remember how good she can be. She gets my endorsement as well.
DPS
This choice is up to you, but some hero's are more useful than others
Bastion - in turret form he has insane DPS and can make short work of most of not all enemies. His tank Ultimate is good AOE damage, too. His self heal is a definite plus for all the lava damage.
Soldier 76 - recommending more for his heal ability than anything. Rockets and aimbot are definitely useful. Solid DPS and off healing makes him a great hero pick, on AES0P'S recommendation.
Junkrat - a strange pick, maybe, but his insane burst damage and traps are actually more useful than you'd think. His bombs can make short work of the turrets in the final section. His Riptire Ultimate is also very good at eliminating large groups of enemies, such as a board of slicers. This was a hero pick in the comp that won me the achievement.
Torbjörn -I hesitate to recommend Torb as too much lava could spam the screen and confuse the team. His lava is apparently a different color. But he is a solid hero who's turret is still a very good supplement to team DPS and crowd control. AES0P recommend Torb as even in this mode, he is a solid character for anything Uprising related.
I am open to suggestions and other specific strats or picks, and will update if need be.
I wish you all luck. This isn't that bad of an achievement, it just takes time and playing smart.

AES0P says with good teamwork, two healers is a tad overkill and sacrifices DPS. My recommendation comes from only having one person communicating with me and 2 randoms. Play what you will, this is what worked for me
Mercy - what can I say, she's just that good. Use her as a focused healer to rapidly heal someone getting focused by enemies or going through lava. Her damage boost can be useful when paired with Valkyrie and Orisa's Damage Boost to melt Bastion tanks and turrets, Eradicators, and Orisa's. In general, do not use Resurrection unless you have to. Valkyrie comes quick and easy, so do not be afraid to use it.Lucio - his group healing will keep everyone topped off while Mercy focuses on healing critical targets. His Boop ability is useful to knock slicers and the bomb away from the payload. His Sonic Barrier Ultimate can help save the group from being overrun and drowned in lava. Updated, thanks for the heads up and alternative team comp. I was playing with two randoms, and the extra healer helped us stay alive with the lack of communication.

cheers. I can definitely see this being more difficult with randoms and/ or no communication. With a full squad it feels pretty trivial compared to some of the other archives achievements.

The basis of the Molten Core challenge is that enemies will drop pools of lava after death, turning the mission into an intense game of the floor is lava.
Hero selection: All
Characters such as D.Va, Lúcio, Mercy, Moira, Pharah, Reaper, and Wreckingball will help avoid the lava, but that isn't necessary. A shield hero and lots of damage is all you need to make this challenge a cakewalk.
Orisa, Bastion, Torbjörn, and Mercy/Moira will be a better option. The only time the lava will ever be a problem is during the payload push in the alleyway and even then with everyone on the payload itself, lava shouldn't be much of an issue. Orisa's shield also blocks off lava from spreading any further, making this challenge as simple as beating the mission on expert.
To go into more depth about our strategy; we simply played normally. Yep, just play the game normally, stick close to one another and avoid running out into a group of enemies and you'll be fine. Because enemies drop lava where they die, simply killing them before they get near is the goal. Torb and Soldier made sure that happened. The lava doesn't damage the payload and as long as Orisa, or any other shield tank you choose is using their shield, the lava won't touch you.
If you would like help for this challenge and don't have anyone to do this with message me on Xbox and me and some discord friends will happily take you through.
My teams setup:
Orisa, Soldier 76, Moira, and Torbjörn.
