How to unlock the The Friend Zone achievement in Overwatch 2 - Definitive Guide
You need someone from your friend list for this. Before starting a quick or competitive game and already in the main menu, invite him or her either by the xbox guide or by pressing Y and highlighting the + icon in front of your name and rank and picking invite. As soon as he or she joined (you see another player icon besides yours) search for a game and you will get the achievement.
You get +20%XP for playing this way.

You can either add someone who is on your friends list already to your group, and play a game, or you can do something a little different and guarantees that you get this achievement.
Play a game. Before the game ends, add any player on your team to your friends list, and then invite them to your group. The "Stay As Team" feature works as well. As long as the person you just added to your friends list joins the group, and go into another game, the achievement will pop.

When playing a quick play game with someone on your friends list, you need to start a quick play game where you choose a role.
If you select the any role game mode the achievement will not unlock.

Adding some here for those who aren't unlocking the achievement (myself included). I wasn't unlocking it because I had already done so on Overwatch 1 - PC version. Which apparently locks it out after the account merge. This is the only way I've found to unlock it if you're in the same boat as I was. Just tried it today and finally got the achievement to unlock. Afterwards I was able to revert everything successfully.

You need go to
https://account.battle.net/connections
And unlink your Xbox account
Then you need to create blank battle net account, and link your Xbox to this account. (Second mobile number needed)
After this manipulation, a friend must invite you in game and select Role queue Quick match.
When the match started, the achievement unlocked.
After this, you can unlink from the new account and link again back to your old Battle.net account.

So it sounds like the account linking/unlinking would work but how would you go about the account cooldown? There's a year wait if you're to unlink your primary battle.net account from your Xbox profile.

To unlock this achievement you will need a brand new overwatch account, and to play a game with a person on your friends list.
If you've grandfathered your account over from overwatch 1 it will not unlock.

Everything is very simple. Bring a friend with you to the lobby. If you don't have friends who play Overwatch, you can always add any person from the match.

For most of those who played the first part and transferred their progress, the trophy does not drop. This can be solved by creating a new Battle No account. You unlink your PSN from your battle no and link it to a new one. They will ask for your phone number upon entry, so have it ready right away. We also reject the proposal to transfer progress. Log in to the lobby as a participant (not a host) and play a non-ranked role-playing match. When entering a match, the trophy falls (this happened to me). In open mode (without roles), the trophy did not fall. Once you get the trophy, unlink the psn from the new battle no and link it back to yours. When it comes to transferring battle accounts, it’s better to do it with the game closed so that nothing goes wrong.
So, we kept the progress from the first part and received the trophy not after six months of endless game fixes!
