How to unlock the Hot Spring Mastery achievement in Owlboy - Definitive Guide

Once you are free to explore the starting area, Vellie, near the top-right of the map you'll find a spring. Just land in it and wait. After 10 or so seconds you'll turn red and shortly after that the guy in the spring will tell you how to deal with the heat.

Worth noting, if you do this at the very end of the game a companion will appear (instead of the usual dude) with a "hot" tip! I mention it to confirm this is NOT missable.

After leaving your house for the first time, you'll be able to fly around Vellie. Fly up and a bit to the right until you see someone relaxing in a hot tub. Talk to this person a few times and he will eventually teach you how to survive in hot water. That isn't required for anything in the game later, it just unlocks this trophy.
