This achievement description is outdated as of March 7, 2018. It actually pops by unlocking 60 Talents. I haven't unlocked it yet on Steam but I got it on Xbox One using the old method and I struggled to find a definitive answer to how this unlocks in 2020. You can obtain this now by unlocking 60 Talents other than the ones you start out with. A Talent is unlocked when a champion reaches Mastery Levels 2 and 8. This means one way of looking at it would be to have 30 champions reach Mastery Level 8. Currently the game has 45 champions so there are plenty of ways to approach this.

As of March 2023, purchasing talents (previously called cards) is no longer working. The only way to get 60 talents is to grind through 30 champions and get them all to Mastery Level 8. This can be achieved by going into a team deathmatch or onslaught training, they give you a good amount of experience if you win. Having other players in your session also allows you to get a team experience boost, so if you know anybody going for this trophy as well, have them play with you or a party to boost the amount of experience you can get out of one game. If you struggle to have 30 champions unlocked, there are some days where characters are unlocked in a rotation for free, so try to level them up first before you do any default characters or characters you have bought.

tl;dr: open chests earned by playing, get new cards and essence, spend essence on new cards.
The easiest way to get this would be to just keep opening chests. They will contain new cards or cards you already have, thus giving you essence to buy new cards. You'll naturally get this through playing the game and leveling up people. You can speed up getting chests in three ways. One, buying crystals to then buy chests. Two, buying chests with gold (though I would save for new heroes personally). Or three, levelling each hero to 1 before levelling them all to 4. You get a chest at 1 and 4 and gold in between so getting all to 1 would be quickest.
