To upgrade the rank of a pal you need to merge several of the same kinde into one pal using the Pal Essence Condenser, unlocked at LV 14.
A pal can be ranked up 4 times.
First time you need to merge 4 pals into one. Second rank you need 16, third 32 and fourth 64.
So you need to catch or hatch a total of 117 of the same pal (116 as fodder in the condenser + 1 for the 116 to be merged into)
