How to unlock the Disease Annihilator achievement in Pandemic: The Board Game - Definitive Guide

This is one of the most challenging tasks in standard Pandemic with 4+ Epidemics. Fortunately, you can change the difficulty to only have 2 Epidemics and help yourself tremendously.

The Medic is Strongly Recommended based on their ability to clear cubes of cured diseases quickly . I would also recommend the Dispatcher to be able to move the Medic 4 additional moves each round when you are attempting to Eradicate diseases.
Recommended Characters
Researcher/Scientist/Medic (+Dispatcher if you're struggling to clear cubes)

Strategy
To have all 4 diseases Eradicated when you win the game, you have to either cure the 4th disease with no cubes at all on the board, or cure the 4th disease with the Medic occupying the same space as the last cubes on the board (they will get cleared once the disease is cured). Your goal throughout should be to eradicate diseases as you go, leaving yourself less work at the end where you might run out of time. As you get down to 2 or 1 diseases left to cure/eradicate, try and remember which cards are in the infection pile so you can locate your characters strategically for easy treating of cubes as they come on the board.

Forecast Exploit
Thanks to Taro Korya San for identifying this exploit. If you have the Forecast event card, you can play it to see the top cards of the Infection Deck. Before finishing the action, quit out to the main menu. You can then reload the game and you'll have the Forecast event back in your hand and you'll know the next cards coming up and can plan movements accordingly. Be aware, once you draw an Epidemic, the Infection Deck gets shuffled and you'll have to check the top cards again.

Which roles did you use in what order? I tried doing Researcher, Scientist, Dispatcher, Medic, but I feel like 4 roles might be too many?

I used 4 characters to get this achievement, but if you're having a hard time try going down to 3 with Researcher/Scientist/Medic in that order.

Oh I guess I misinterpreted your guide, I went with just the dispatcher and the medic, no one else. Worked ok for me though, the ability to bring the pawns together at any time made it really easy to facilitate card transfers and cure the diseases. Definitely had to get lucky on the draw though. Any game where I couldn't cure and eradicate the first disease within the first 2-3 turns and the 2nd disease by the 6th or 7th was a lost cause. I guess including the researcher and scientist could have sped up the curing process.

Thanks, using the Researcher/Scientist/Medic worked for me!

This is a solid solution. Researcher/Scientist/Medic also worked for me, but it's also worth mentioning that specifically curing a disease in round one with an eradication no later than round two makes this a lot easier especially if the eradicated disease is the yellow one in South America/Africa. This means the researcher and scientist can clean up the blue in the US and the medic can go zipping to wherever he is needed. This took me three attempts because I could not get an early eradication. Using the dispatcher did not work because it broke up the initial cards too much. Also an early bad draw of an outbreak didn't help either.

Can you unlock this on the easiest (2 epidemic setting), I achieved this last night but it didn't pop. Is there a minimum difficulty?

Yes, you can unlock it on the easiest difficulty. Did you make sure all the cubes were gone before curing the last disease? Or that the medic was on the only city with cubes when you cured the last disease?

Yes, you can unlock this on the easiest setting. Like Jujii8 said, you have to ensure either no cubes or that the medic is on the last cubes when you cure the last disease in order to win this.

Well it must have bugged out on me then I had 24 of each cube when I cured the last disease, I will try again and see if I get a different result. (Definition of insanity)

Give it another go, I can confirm I earned mine on the easiest difficulty setting. If it doesn't work again, doing this with 3 Epidemics shouldn't be that much harder with the same strategy.

Popped today on the easiest setting, thanks. Oddly enough I did it on the last turn and that achievement didn't pop this time! Frustrating!

Well I'm glad it panned out in the end! On the bright side, playing through one game on easy going for eradications doesn't take too much time/effort

I'm not having much luck with this at all. I have keep getting stuck with cubes left on the board. I have to have the medic cure the disease and clear the board on the last turn. Any suggestions for clearing the board earlier?

BobWings, some of it can definitely be poor luck with which cities of your last disease still have cubes on the board. My best advice would be to try and minimize cubes of your last disease as you near curing it. It can help to have event cards saved for this (I.e. One Quiet Night to prevent additional cubes of your cure color popping up before you can cure it). Additionally, if you have at least 6 cards (for 3 characters) in the deck left, you can always go around one more set of turns before curing it to ensure cubes are cleared.

I managed to get it today. What I learned is that I was getting really unlucky with the disease cubes at the end. Cure and eradicating the diseases early is key to be able to get all of your players to the final continent to whack a mole any diseases that spawn there. I was also able to set up three bases in black (last disease for me) because each character had a black card that was spread out. This meant that the characters could move around the map and be able to cure the disease quickly. Finished with 6 turns left. Thanks for the input!

I'm gonna just add that you're most likely fucked if your last disease to eradicate is yellow, or if a lot of your early infection pile is yellow. If you're getting a lot of yellow infection cards, I strongly recommend bailing and starting a new game. Yellow is the most difficult disease to treat with chokepoints at Laos and Khartoum and Santiago being completely isolated. I didn't even come close to pulling off complete eradication in any game where yellow was a significant factor.

I personally like using the medic, researcher and scientist as well. With the medic first instead. It helped me start clearing cubes fast from the beginning. And then using the medic exclusively for clearing cubes unless you stumble upon five of the same color cards in his inventory. Using his cards primarily to fly and treat the cubes while the other two can focus on curing first worked for me. Took me a few games, but honestly I think this is easier than beating the last level of the tutorial lol

@LordBetus you indeed have the right idea, I used the medic first to start clearing up cubes on first turn and he makes all the difference, and due to the scientist being dead last she cured the last disease and eradicate it on the very last turn giving me the win.

Fantastic guide. Took me several tries, but I ended up getting it with Researcher, Medic, Dispatcher. The good thing is, even though it took several tries, if I got to the end of an attempt and it was clear I couldn't get the achievement I was still usually in good position to get a win.

Tried 3 times with medic, scientist and dispatcher. No luck.
Tried only with scientist and medic, first try.

@llindur I am having no luck or something... No matter what I've tried nothing works. Though I haven't tried going for this achievement with just the scientist and medic. Maybe I'll try it

@Taro Korya San, luck is definitely a part of it in terms of how diseases pop up throughout your game, but keep trying and you'll get there!

A couple of thoughts that could help out:
1. Try to keep track of which cards are being flipped from the disease deck. It may be counter intuitive, but if you can eradicate some of the popular diseases early, later on you will have less of your final disease being drawn from the deck.
2. In a similar vein to #1, if you identify your final disease mid game, try keeping track by physically writing down the cards in the discard of that color. It will help you identify where to orient your characters on the final continent to clear the necessary cubes as they pop up.

Thanks for the words of encouragement @Pandaman822! I kept at it and finally unlocked it today! clap

Is it permitted to post an exploit of the game? I found one small thing that helped me out a bit.

The exploit I found involved using the Forecast card after the player's draw step and before the first infection. You can see the cards coming up then quit out to the main menu without clicking the finish button. Load back in and you will still have the Forecast card and also know the upcoming six infections.
Drawing an Epidemic card reshuffles the deck so be sure to check it after one is drawn too.

I used the team that thanatos8285 mentioned in his earlier comment and got on the first attempt with that team. Had gotten 3 eradicated with the other set up but never 4. Thanks for the tip and nice guide overall.

Just to say that you can’t use the Rapid Vaccine Deployment event Card - after curing the last disease it doesn’t give you the option of playing it which is a shame - got to my last 3 cubes too!

Yeah, unfortunately you'd have to use it to remove cubes prior to the action to cure the final disease. Hopefully you're able to get to it again relatively quickly!

Thanks for the hint that the medic being on the last spot will clear the disease. I was on my last 2 actions with 0 cards left to draw and happened to be able to build and then cure with my medic on sydney to eradicate the last disease.

I've managed to crash the game multiple times by using the airlift event card on my medic and placing him on the final infection cube of a disease that I have the cure for. Seems the game doesn't like the airlift/eradication combo so, you know, watch for that.

After many tries I succeeded with 1.Researcher 2..Dispatcher 3.Medic. Pass the turns until you can cure your 1st disease then move the Medic (with Dispatcher too) to eradicate. Meanwhile your 2nd cure should be ready by D (or R). Eradicate again with M. From there the 3 should be moving treating as much cities as they can. Use the card event Goverment Grant to build the Research Center when you need it or plan to go to a town you own the card. Play slow but smart. A good rng with a good strategy. Fyi I got the final card for the blue cure when there were only 4 cards left in the deck but every cube was cleared from the map at that moment and my 3 pawns were on blue cities ready to move if need be.

This achievement was rough. I did it with the three recommended (researcher, scientist, and medic). Even then it came down to the last turn needing to not hit my last colour so I could cure it. Just so much rng involved.

The technique that worked for me was using the scientist and medic.

The scientist stayed within 3 moves of atlanta so she could cure the first 3 quickly and I had the medic move around eradicating them as quickly as possible. I wasn't swapping cards so used the medics to fly him when necessary.

When it came to the 4th, I saved my forecast card and was able to use it so that only cities with eradicated viruses would show for a couple of turns, which gave me enough time to get rid of all of the last virus before the scientist cured it. By chance the blue was the last one I had, which meant I was able to use the scientist to help treat before curing it.

To be honest there is a bit of chance involved as well, but this worked for me the first time I tried it.

+1 from me, the Scientist and Medic worked after hours trying with different combos. I did get very lucky and was able clear blue, yellow, black fairly quickly so it all came down to getting red cleared. Also was very lucky with the event cards. If you've played the game enough to know when you are getting good deals, this should come with practice. Thanks!

Hi

thanks to thanatos8285 for the idea of the dispatcher and the medic.

it is with these 2 characters that I managed to do it.
(I put the medic first and dispatcher the second)
We easily get to 3 eradicated diseases.
Many times I could have arrived at 4 but I missed 1 round lol.
I don't really have a technique to give.
It's a bit depending on what's going on in the game.

to have it I treated the cities with the medic. I used the skill of the dispatcher to easily move the medicine once the illnesses had healed.
I also used the dispatcher to join the medic or have the medic join the dispatcher.

concerning the cards I gave to the one with the most of the same suit.
As well thought of setting up centers to cure illnesses it saves time by avoiding returning to Atlanta.

I hope my comment will help you get it.smile

I will admit this didn't seem to make sense at first but this method worked (most likely with some help from RNG). My main tactic for this:
Medic - Primary job is clearing cubes (basically started with whatever section I had the most cards for already) and the secondary function was building a research station and finding a cure for a different color from what the dispatcher had (in the game I had, this ended up only being one cure)
Dispatcher - Primary job move the medic and find a cure (again, different colors from whatever the medic has) with a secondary function of keep the US clear (or limited) in infections

RNG really plays into this.

I did this on the Virulent Strain challenge mode, with a team of 2, first up was the researcher and second was the scientist.

I eradicated the first 3 viruses as soon as I had the cures.

The last one is the tricky one you need to remove all the virus blocks before you cure it, I made sure both team's had enough cards to cure the virus and once the last virus block was removed, I played the One Quiet night card, and used the Government Grant card, to cure the virus on the city I was currently on.

You do have to be lucky with the cards, it took me 3 attempts, the first couple I ran out of cards and was forced to cure the virus before I'd cleared all the virus blocks.
I complete the game like this a couple more times when I was doing the Are You Not Entertained? Achievement.
