How to unlock the The World Needs a Hero achievement in Pandemic: The Board Game - Definitive Guide

On the right side of the main menu there is a tab which changes difficulty set the game to heroic.

Team wise pick just researcher and scientist anymore then that and your just wasting time.

Pick researcher first so you can instantly finish 1 disease (note if you can’t finish 1 disease on the first turn or you get a bad starting hand ie event cards restart)

Basically the strategy is to not move and keep ending your turn while moving any necessary cards to the scientist. Don’t bother treating nodes unless your close and you need the cubes but I never bothered doing them in my 100 matches at all.

All up matches that are winnable should take roughly 10 minutes my best time was 4 minutes or with 36 cards remaining.

I did this with researcher, scientist and quarantine specialist and got it on my first attempt. Not suggesting the solution is bad but if you are having trouble deploy the quarantine specialist to keep the outbreaks under control.

Thanks for the solution! This dumb game relies mostly on luck, in consequence your best bet is to play as fast as possible the way he described it in the solution. I tried with a QS as 3rd pawn like Rista B mentioned it but wasn't convinced. I think it makes things more difficult because you have less cards for the scientist as well as you don't know beforehand where to put QS efficiently.

I’m a seasoned Pandemic player in real life and would estimate I’ve played at least 300 games.

I just did this first time with the Medic and the Operations Expert. The versatility of the OE allows you to build a research station whenever you need and thus get good coverage of the board. This route works very well as it means you can eradicate at least one disease before the first epidemic, which means 1/4 of the board can be forgotten about in terms of new infections. The Medic is a must to ensure you get diseases under control quickly at the start of the game and can eradicate diseases if the opportunity arises.

The Dispatcher and Medic combo works well to share knowledge and eradicate, since the Medic treats disease whenever he’s in a city with a cured disease WITHOUT using an action. This means you can cover all twelve cities of one colour with just the Medic in three turns. However, you don’t get great coverage of the board in terms of Research Stations when using the Dispatcher.

Tip: After the third epidemic card has arrived, if you clear any city of disease it can’t then outbreak unless you’re unlucky enough to have an adjacent city outbreaks.

As a side note, this does not stack with lower difficulties so I’ll have to repeat my victory at lower levels.

This was really helpful. This is clearly the way. A little bit of luck with the initial cards (if not, restart the game) and stay around Atlanta. I win at my first try with one restart. You just need a little bit of luck with the cards.

Heroic Difficulty adds 6 Epidemic cards into your deck, creating a significant amount of redraw for specific cities in the deck. Cube management will be very important to prevent cities from outbreaking. Too many cities left unchecked with a poorly drawn Epidemic can quickly end a game that seems to be going well.

I recommend the "Dream Team" of the Researcher, Scientist, and Medic. They have solid abilities that play well with each other to balance stopping disease spreading and finding cures. To be completely honest, there is a fair amount of luck with where cities that are drawn frequently are located and what sort of cards you have early on.
