How to unlock the Battle of the Bulge Ribbon achievement in Panzer General Allied Assault - Definitive Guide

Get any victory on any difficulty on all 12 main single player campaign maps to get this achievement.

Listing strategies for all 12 levels goes beyond the scope of this solution IMO but due to some hatemail and a negative vote I decided to include a general strategy which can be used for any and all levels.

1) A.I. unit placement at the start of a level is fixed. Use this to your advantage. Restart if your artillery is vulnerable or when you can't destroy a key target in one turn.
2) Identify all key targets. Locations with defense bonuses and other priority targets like enemy artillery.
3) Make sure you destroy an enemy unit when attacking. Otherwise you just wasted (a lot of) cards. And in some cases the attacking unit...
4) Artillery, artillery, artillery! The more the better!Don't forget to check their range before placing!
5) Infantry with auto dig-in can be used to gain additional attack bonus without leaving them vulnerable to attack.
6) Use cards that allow you to move multiple units one square or one unit two squares, to clear your own home row and push forward. Allowing you to place more artillery!

I always go for the fast victory types, securing it by occupying three tiles on the enemies home row (unless the scenario forces me otherwise). Remember that you do not need to hold them for more than one turn. Saving "move unit for free" cards can really help here.

If you need more help, or with a specific level, just let me know in the comments or send me a message.

It has been a while since I've played the game... Firing it up right now.

Is it "Operation Lumberjack" you need help with?

Ok, I've replayed the mission (12) and won by turn 7 (America has gained control of the enemy's home row).

First and foremost. The game uses a random seed. This means you can abuse the save/load feature to help you win a battle! Do this whenever it's a close battle and the dice screws you over!

In your first turn you will need to destroy the German infantry on your side of the river:

1) Place your M26 Pershing (Armor, Heavy) directly below it. Place your rangers on row six, column 3, Howitzer next to it and the mortar infantry next to that.
2) Move all three units one space up (reload if you hit a mine)
3) Place another howitzer on your home tile (free placement) and another support unit to aid in the battle against the infantry.
4) Destroy the German infantry after suffering some abuse. Restart if the AI plays a cancel battle card or reload if you lose your tank or cannot win after returning fire.

Now you need to get across the bridge as fast as possible. Use the infantry to take the bridge and get a heavy armor behind it as soon as you can. You will lose the infantry sooner or later btw. Just make sure you've got a steady stream of heavy armor right behind it. Maneuver both howitzers to either side of the bridge for optimal cover.

Please change your negative vote into a positive one if you cleared the level! Cheers!

Hi MastaGus, could you explain in detail what exactly is Row 6, Column 3? Or where does your point of reference begin? If this is common knowledge then I do apologize as I am not a savvy Panzer General:AA gamer.

Regarding #4. Which German infantry were you referring to? The one on the US side of the river or the one blocking the bridge?

So I assume the strategy is to use an elite infantry to push through the bridge blockade, with heavy armor behind it. The artillery pieces will be flanking the bridge & along the river. Would a Priest or Towed Gun be of any use at all on this level? I find their usage rather limited.

Rows are from left to right and columns up and down. So with the battlefield in front of you, your home row is row six. The leftmost column is column 1.

#4 it's the one on the US side.

Priests and Towed guns are not very useful until you've got a foothold on the other side of the river. You can use any unit to push through. Your cards are way more important than the actual unit you're using to attack.

Forgot to mention that unnecessary unit cards often make excellent sacrifice cards! There is a play card with which you can take two unit cards from your deck and add them too your hand. Use them to stock up.

Perhaps I should update the solution with all this new data...

Last one gave me some trouble, Operation Lumberjack. I used MastaGus's guide for the beginning stages. They are spot on, follow that. I found that the Germans put down too many troops to defend the German side of the bridge.

My strategy was to use abuse the save system. I also used bombard to blast my way through to the enemies tile. You will need a remove dig in card, free attack card and free move card to do this, but if you can get a unit on the back row you can end the match. pay attention to your cards, sometimes its better just to let the unit die than sacrifice cards you need.

Speed is the key, this one is tricky.

You don´t need to do the levels B1 = Bloody Omaha and then B2 Herken forest right? I just did Bloody Omaha but Herken Forest did not unlock.

So first question! Do I need to do them to get this achievement?

Second question! How do I unlock Herken Forest? (B2)

FWIW I dropped infantry to occupy the Waffen SS on the last mission, and focused on clearing the bridge and bulldozing towards the enemy home base with tanks. Got it first try.

My other overall tip is to just play the game to the objectives - if the mission is offensive, go hard and drop whatever it takes to plow forward (judiciously). If the mission is defensive, cluster and turtle, the support bonuses will do a lot of work.

To confirm, bonus levels aren't necessary.
