How to unlock the Treasure Hunter achievement in Path of Exile - Definitive Guide

For me, this achievement was somewhat luck-based. While I could have got lucky with @Frankies Back solution, I believe the achievement popped for a different reason. I believe the third Treasure Key is related to the Mysterious Darkshrines hidden throughout the Labyrinth.

The rest of the guide is correct as far as locating the Darkshrines, there is substantially more detail on additional key drops located at the poelab.com site, all credit goes to them. Specifically here: http://www.poelab.com/?page_id=493#Izaro1

Each phase of Izaro has a chance at getting an extra key. Use the above link and the additional challenge to reward yourself with an extra key. If you get one from a Darkshrine, then you only need to complete one additional challenge to get the achievement.

Original article:

My basis is from the wiki article here: https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Mysterious_Darkshrine

First question, how do I find these secret shrines?
In all my runs (and there were quite a few), I only was able to find the shrines on the following areas:

* Estate Path
* Estate Walkways
* Mansion Path

After several hours running the labyrinth, I ended up skipping through all other maps. Every single time I played those ones above, I would always find a shrine hidden somewhere.

So you're on the right map, how do you find the shrine?
The shrines are in a hidden area of the Labyrinth. You can see the hidden area on your map - it looks like a small room with no doorway. The switch is just outside, but doesnt show up on the map like your usual switch (green icon). You can see on my minimap here, the hidden room to the north-east of where I'm standing:
External image

Once you flick the switch, part of the wall will move for you to go in. Inside you'll find a handful of rare/magic enemies to kill... and the shrine.

The shrine speaks some cryptic message and often leaves you wondering what just happened. First of all (confirmed on the wiki link above), all shrine effects are beneficial in some way, so by all means use it. If you bring up the full-screen map, you can see in the top-right corner what benefits you have in the map. If this is your second or third shrine, I recommend checking what benefits you have BEFORE you use the shrine so you can see whats new.

The most common effects for me were...

* A random shrine effect - only one effect can be in effect at once, so if you get this result a second time, the first effect is overwritten. I believe a patch coming out soon is going to fix this. You'll have a big fat icon appear above your head when this happens.
* Reduced trap damage in the labyrinth - this is nice, but not what we want for the achievement.
* Traps are disabled in the final encounter - if you're running this on Normal, there are no traps anyway, so this is kinda pointless.

All these 3 above effects are displayed on the full-screen map. If there is no additional effect displayed, that means you've picked up one of the following rarer effects:

* Izaro is guaranteed to drop one unique - this is also nice, but not what we want right now.
* You get one extra use of the Divine Font - for me this was a bit of a waste too.
* Izaro drops one extra Treasure Key - this is the one we want.

I say again, these will not appear on your full screen map. If you use a shrine and nothing happens, you have got yourself one of the above effects.

This is the point where you cross your fingers and kill Izaro. The achievement unlocks as soon as you kill him.

Update: http://poelab.com does the layout for the labyrinth for the day,, including which areas have a Dark Shrine for you to seek out.

Finding the extra Treasure Key in a chest doesn't count towards the total, Izaro needs to drop 3 in total (in addition to whatever you have in your inventory).

The website Monkeyman1188 mentions above, http://poelab.com is exceptional at showing which maps have the Dark Shrines on them if you want to increase your chances of having him drop an extra key.

I've done some more digging, and amended the solution.

I have changed the solution, please read the first paragraph and follow the link to poelab.com, there are a number of constraints that will drop additional keys, there is no simple answer,

POELab has more than just layouts, the part linked at the top takes you to the "Izaro and Phases" section of the site dealing specifically with keys relative to the specific phase you're in.

Extra Key: Izaro must have at least 10 charges
Extra key: DO NOT CLICK
Extra key: DO NOT KILL
Extra key: MUST let all gain full life

I'm truly sorry that this needs to be spelt out for you. Clearly the simplest "solution" is to delete this page so you can find it out on your own. I've linked directly to the section dealing with extra keys at the very top of the article, if this is too difficult then I'm afraid no-one can help you.

Thanks for the guide! Very useful. Don't feel bad about Jacky Chaud. I don't think he gets most guides unless they do the achievement for him. He also had issues with my fully detailed and extremely simple masters to level 8 guide....You know, the one where you simply do missions and they hit 8? heh

I really dont understand what challenges you are talking about in this guide and the links provided dont say anything about them just his moves.

Add this: https://www.poelab.com/izaro-phases

The challenge I refer to is the "extra key" mentioned on that page. You need 3 "extra keys" for this achievement.

The shrine I ended up finding that had the extra key for Izaro was in 'Basilica Halls'. Also, it did tell me what rare effect I got, which is how I know I got it, it pops up on the upper right of the screen, below the current server information. Unless your wording is just iffy to me and you did specify that.

You get 3 keys by not killing any of the traps/monsters in the encounters with him. I.e. damage only him and you're good.

Izaro is the boss of the labyrinth and he always drops at least 1 treasure key when you kill him after the third encounter. To get him to drop 3 keys, you need to complete his first two encounters while meeting certain conditions based on the mechanic active during the encounters. Some mechanics have additional monsters you have to avoid killing, like Gargoyles or Lieutenants and others make you wait a certain amount of time until Izaro has been buffed, like Idols. Read more about the encounter mechanics here: LINK

Note: In Labyrinth there are "darkshrines" that will activate a buff/bonus and one bonus is to have Izaro drop an additional key on death. Haven't tested whether this will pop the trophy without requiring both of the first Izaro encounters to have been completed correctly.

In order for Izaro to drop 3 keys, you must meet certain conditions. The battle with Izaro in any labyrinth is divided into 3 stages. Each stage ends after Izaro loses a certain amount of health (30% at the first meeting, another 30% of the original amount at the second meeting, and at the last battle you kill him completely). So, you are guaranteed to receive 1 key when you kill Izaro. You can get 2 more keys by fulfilling 2 conditions of Izaro’s mechanics for the current day (there are 8 in total and they are shuffled every day, 1 mechanic is selected randomly per stage). You can see more about mechanics here: https://www.poelab.com/izaro-phases/ . For example, if Izaro has the “Charge Disruptors” mechanic on the current day, then in order to fulfill the condition for an additional key, you must wait until Izaro has the required number of charges (he will say the phrase “Complex machinations converge to a single act of power”, this is a signal that it’s time for him to retire), and then defeat him at this stage. Or the “Lieutenants” mechanic - in addition to Izaro, 3 of his lieutenants will hang out in the arena; in order to get the key in the final battle, you must leave all three alive in the intermediate battle, attacking only Izaro. Also, every day in the Labyrinth, in secret passages, several darkshrines appear, one of them can guarantee a drop of an additional key from Izaro, i.e. If you are lucky and come across such a darkshrine, then for the trophy it will be enough to perform only one Izaro mechanic.
