This took me 3 or 4 hours. Important Notes:
-You need to be the only one in the party. Leave the rest of your companions at Oleg's.
-This requirement doesn't count for Animal companions.
I chose Sylvan Sorcerer (level 1) combined with Cleric (level 1). There are likely easier ways of doing this; this guide is meant to be a rough guide for people who wanna do it better.
Start on the easiest difficulty. Choose Smilodon. For sorc level 1, i chose Vanish and Reduce Person. Both useless, feel free to experiment with sorcerer buffs. For cleric level 1, i chose protection from alignment (the bear is chaotic), and Bless, Shield of Faith.
Beeline the questchain to Temple of the Elk. Unchain your sorcerer from your smilodon, once the frogs are dead. Have your sorc near the entrance in stealth. Turn off your sorcerer's a.i. you should still be on the easiest difficulty. Quicksave. Use your smilodon to wittle down the Bear's health until it's 15%-20%. Switch difficulty to normal, and then challenging; consistently wittling down the bear's health. Switch to hard when you can't wittle down his health without killing him. On hard mode, he should only have about 10 hp.
Your smilodon will die. Many, many times. Camp to revive him. Quicksave is your friend. Camping will draw enemies, often. Feel free to use it to avoid being attacked while camping, and to maximize damage output per attempt on the bear. Enjoy
