How to unlock the A Long Night of Horrors achievement in PAYDAY 2: CRIMEWAVE EDITION - Definitive Guide

Heist: Prison Nightmare
Difficulty: Mayhem
Time Required: Takes minimum of roughly 45 mins

Okay, so to start off, the odds of this achievement glitching for you are pretty high, so I'm just going to outline some solo strategies for this achievement.

Note: You must COMPLETE THE HEIST for the achievement to unlock

Your class build: Dodge or Heavy? Doesn't really matter, as long as you're comfortable with your own playstyle. I tend to favour a heavy build because a dodge build is more luck based and up to chance. Basic skills of a dodge build can be found in the ghost tree. Basic skill for your usual heavy build is the Iron Man aced skill as it unlocks the Improved Combined Tactical Vest.

Equipment: Doctor Bag. First aid kit does not reset downs, but a Doctor Bag does.

Heist Assets: Having an extra ammo bag, doctor bag and grenade case will certainly benefit you in the long run should you use them sparingly throughout your run.

Recommended skills:

Resilience(aced)
due to the apparent abundance of flash bangs throughout the level it can save you from unnecessary damage.

Hostage Taker(basic/aced) so that you can regenerate your health without having to use a doctor bag.

Combat Doctor(aced) so that you have 8 uses from your doctor bags plus the additional 2 uses from the heist assets.

Inspire so that you can pick up your AI; believe me when I say that your AI are your crutch. Should you go down because of a taser that you can't find for the life of you, you'll want your AI to be with you the entire time for the extra backup and revive.

Feign Death/Messiah if you get in a situation where your AI are across the map, yet you got downed, this will benefit you for sure.

Of course, you may not be able to afford all of the skills outlined here, but don't worry, they are just recommendations. I'd say prioritize health bonus skills like Hostage Taker. This will help you avoid using doctor bags so you can save them for dire situations.

Perk Decks: Armorer(if playing heavy), because it increases your amor by 35 points. Rogue(if playing dodge), it adds 45% dodge chance on top of your skills. Sicario, because it helps with dodge and amor. Ex-President stores health from every kill you get and gives you health whenever you lose any. Think of it as a vampire effect.
Half of these perk decks are part of a DLC iirc.

General Tips:

-Learn the map so you can run away from a dozer/cloaker and avoid unnecessary damage. Also so that you can have some solid escape routes and be knowledgeable of enemy spawn locations.

-Save Doctor Bags so that you use them when it's necessary. You only have a maximum of 10 uses if you are playing solo, so don't waste them!

-Dragon's Breath Round is an attachment for shotguns and lights the enemies on fire. Definitely useful for tasers because they are too busy being on fire to paralyze you.

-Count your spins! it would be very painful for you to miss the mark by 1 or 2 keycards yet you are not aware. I'd recommend getting 1 bag of cloaker gold each time you place the keycard in the slot and counting with pen/paper. You will collect 2 bags for the first time and then after that collect 1 each time. This is so that you can cross reference your pen/paper with collected bags to keep track of your keycards. You can view collected bags with cn_back.

Did I miss anything? Let me know and I'll add it to the solution. Thanks

If you give me negative feedback please let me know why or PM me so that I can improve on my future solutionstoast

I like to use the street sweeper shotgun with the dragon's breath attachment as a secondary. For my primary, I usually stick with the Cavity 9mm to deal with dozers and cloakers, but this one can be replaced with anything for yourself.

Great guide helped a lot. I used a lot of what you said. A note is AI can go into custody and taken out of custody. I had this happen and my achievement popped. I did this solo so I don't know if it works if 1 person goes into custody. You should ace the perk that regenerates your health (hostage taker) and set your AI to have the regenerate health perk, armor piercing and more ammo pickup. I equipped them with light machine guns and let them do a lot of the work calling them as I got away from the overwhelming force of the cops. Use the dragons breath shot it is great.

Damn wish you would have mentioned the escape wasn't aware you had to get out straight away as I activated my 16th Key card whilst there was a bunch of enemies blocking the exit..

Worth noting the first Key card definitely does count so you should be escaping with 14 bags by your method. Thanks for the tips 😁

If playing solo, I can confirm if one of the bots goes into custody, the achievement will not void. I must note however that I brought the bot back before the escape by trading a hostage.

Completed the achievement on 29th may 2023 Solo. It took just under an hour to complete. i made sure to get 16 key cards and escaped when collecting the 17th. Used a shotgun/stoic build with 14 First Aid Kits.

Best advice is to use Hostage Taker and hide when the loot starts spawning to regain health. Make sure they don’t stop the wheel, as it is frustrating adding more time to an already long game. When escaping i used the Doctor Bag provided with the heist and took 2 hostages to maintain max health when entering the train. If using stoic, make sure the hip flask is ready to used when running to the escape as there are snipers and dozers. You can run past them but the snipers will still hit you.

Used offline method for all 3 prison nightmare achievements. They popped when i quit the game, went back online and then reloaded the game.

This trophy will take at least 45 to 55 minutes to get done if working efficiently. In your bid to get this trophy, you must be playing on Mayhem, Death Wish or Death Sentence. It is critical to attempt this insidious test of endurance on Mayhem difficulty if you want to live to see the end of this nightmare. The trophy will pop for all players who didn't go into police custody at the heist completion screen.

This mission is poorly optimized and can get terrible frame drops inside the prison. Due to this recipe for a blue screen crash, this should be attempted with no more than two players to ensure a less chaotic environment.

Begin the heist normally as when going for the other two trophies on this heist. Once you get your second keycard, activate the bag moving mini-game instead of the escape zipline. You will continue the mission alternating between the wheel and bag moving mini-game until obtaining the minimum 15 keycards. Whilst the bag moving mini-game is active, it is best to just completely ignore it. The bags will explode when the timer reaches zero and it puts you at unnecessary risk for a down so be sure to avoid them. Keep a keen eye out for snipers, drills and headless dozers when they spawn as those are the main things that could cause you to fail.

Use any device of your choice to keep tally of how many keycards were acquired throughout the mission. You must complete the mission so it is important not to lose track of your keycards and leave prematurely. As started before, this will take the best part of an hour so make sure you have an adequate amount of time to complete this.

The trophy is relatively simple, but it takes about an hour of play (even more than an hour in solo), and everything would be fine if the game didn’t crash to a blue screen right at this time. Our team of three people copied cards (at the moment the reel spins, stand with the whole team towards the glass compartment a little to the left of the reel and frequently press the button to take the item.) One card can go into each player’s inventory. Usually the three of us took off at the threshold of ~53 minutes (and another minute is needed to complete the mission, with this method we won about 6 minutes and safely, the first time we finished at 48 minutes)
