How to unlock the Thalassophobia achievement in PAYDAY 2: CRIMEWAVE EDITION - Definitive Guide
Difficulty: Overkill
Okay, so like other achievements, this achievement will most likely glitch on you, so I will provide solo tips here. If you attempt this with any partners, this will be nowhere near as frustrating as solo can be. You can divide the work into floors and give everyone jobs so it is far easier co-op.
But when it comes to solo, the stars need to align, you have to be on your A-game and you can hardly kill any officers. The amount of time a pager takes is far too long to consider killing guards as a viable strategy for this achievement. I'd say you can kill 1 guard maximum, but even then you will be cutting it close.
The basics of this heist revolve around the laptop that you need to use. There are 5 different locations for the computer that I have encountered:
-2 on the bottom floor
-0 on the first floor
-2 on the second floor
-1 on the top floor
Once the password is entered, the computer will provide locations of the individual stashes. You will then need to secure all 8 bags and arrive back at the computer to open the server room within 3:45-4:00 mins. If you have this much time when you arrive at the server room, you have a good chance of making it.
Tip: Pause the game to memorize/write down the locations and plan your route in your mind. It really does help
Sidenote: Shoot doors to unlock them! It saves about 4 seconds per door!
The server room is quite simple, just watch for the guards and be patient and ready to hit those buttons once everything is overheated. You cannot place an ECM jammer while the override needs to take place. This will prevent the buttons from being pressed for 25 seconds. Just don't do it.
If you are confused by any of this, check out one of the videos below to gain a proper understanding of the level and what takes place.
I'll try and provide insight into the separate floors and most optimal stash locations that I found.
-Bottom floor: Only two guards: One in the kitchen, one in the main area. Easy to avoid as long as you're aware. Usually only get 1 stash of money on this floor, which is often in the fridge.
-First floor: There are multiple roaming guards on this floor. I do not recommend killing any of them. The optimal stash locations for this floor are inside of the lifeboat capsules, inside of the rooms and inside of the aquarium. The cigar and wine room isn't that bad, but it has no windows close by to secure the cash and consumes a good amount of time. You can get 3 different stash locations at once in this level.
-Second Floor: There are about the same amount of roaming guards on this level as there are on the first floor. The best locations for this floor are the aquariums. The food carts aren't that bad either, but they can spawn all over the place where as with the aquariums they are in the same locations.
-Top floor: Maximum two guards on this level from what I've found. One inside, one outside. The best stash location I have found is the food cart outside (on the left side if heading outside). It is right near the ledge and can make for some quick securing of loot.
All that being said. Watch out for civilians. They can mess up your runs. The only pro of these civilians is that you can kill them and bag them quite quick. They are usually paired with another civvie, so keep 2 bags on you if possible.
Did you read all that? You probably won't get under 6 minutes first try because you watched the video and read what I have laid out for you. You will get this achievement through practice. practice. practice. The reason everyone says practice makes perfect is because it's true. Just remain patient and try your hardest to knock this achievement out.
Good luck going for this achievement all! It is certainly not the easiest achievement in this game.
Here is my (older) video walkthrough for those who may benefit from it:
Here is my most up to date video guide, with commentary:
If you give me negative feedback, please let me know why so that I can improve on this solution and my future solutions
- this can be done solo, but the more players the easier.
- shoot for good rng, I’ll talk more about this later
- have the right skills for the job.
- as mentioned by “BearlyComplete” you should shoot the door locks to save yourself 4 seconds
- The skills I recommend:
Duck and cover aced
Parkour aced
Inner pockets aced
Optical illusions aced
Transporter
- good rng:
Computer spawns in basement in the room directly to the right or left as you enter.
Computer spawns upstairs behind the locked doors
Computer spawns top floor (only useful really if the money spawns in the bookshelf)
- Best Money spawns:
Lifeboat, downstairs aquarium, bookshelf, food cart upstairs; if it’s near the computer next to aquarium room, and fridge; if it’s not in the middle of the room…
These are the best locations you can get, and you should shoot for them
- Worst money spawns:
Cigar room; especially if it’s in the far back room, either rooms in the back, 2nd and top floor food carts; if there by the bar area, and 2nd floor aquariums; since there’s no convenient windows nearby.
Keep playing, if you get bad rng, reset. You can usually tell from the beginning once you use the computer.
This trophy must be completed on either Overkill, Mayhem, Death Wish or Death Sentence difficulty. Ideally, you should aim to complete this trophy on Overkill as there will be noticeably less civilians to worry about blocking your path. Any person in the lobby will earn this trophy upon completion of the heist.
This is easily the trickiest trophy of the lot due to it being a fair bit more luck based than skill based. Harness everything you learned from the Great White trophy, as you will need to apply this knowledge to zip through the heist. Sometimes you will get horrific loot spawns and guards will be in the most inconvenient spots possible on your way to the loot. Keeping in mind you have four pagers available to use, it is best to kill any guard that will significantly hinder your speed run time. In a perfect world, the loot spawns would be as follows: lower deck laptop spawn, fridge, life boat, main deck aquarium, and room 101 or 102. However, if you have a few mates who play the game, this trophy becomes remarkably easier.
If you have a friend to play with, you can split responsibilities to help take most of the luck portion out of the equation. As an added bonus, the constant de-sync issues in co-op stealth seem to not occur since you aren’t always close to one another. Although easier, you must both have solid knowledge of the map layout, guards and loot locations. The best way to do this with a friend is designate one, in this example your friend, to go to the laptop. If the laptop spawns upper level 1 or 2, you go down to lower deck, vice verse. Your friend should spot a sticker by the laptop, allowing them to call out the color while logging into the laptop. Here you will split loot responsibility but your friend will tell you the two closest loot locations to the direction you went and they will take the two closest to them. It also helps to note where the laptop spawned, as whoever finishes their loot run first should go back to camp the laptop. Once you get to the server room, designate who goes to the left two valves and who goes to the right two valves. Please be aware, that on rare occasion, the server room trick does not work when in an online heist. Due to this, it would be useful to have two pagers remaining to swiftly dispose of the patrolling guards in this area. Be sure to communicate any time a pager is used so you don't trigger an alarm by killing too many guards. Here is a video guide depicting the aforementioned co-op method:
We played with 3 players. We got to the server room in 4 minutes. It is important to leave 2 pagers in order to kill 2 guards in the server room.
