How to unlock the Grave Matters achievement in Pentiment - Definitive Guide

There are a few steps to take when getting this achievement.

- Having either Logician or Orator is necessary.

- As others have mentioned, you'll need to be as respectful to Gernot as possible. This includes not asking for your payment early and making sure you don't engage in conversation with the Baron at dinner.

- During the murder scene where Piero will be accused, pick every positive interaction you can with Gernot and try not to defend Piero. At the point where Gernot tells Wojslav to take Piero away, say the following lines:
-[Say nothing]
-"Even if Piero wanted to kill the baron, he’s not physically capable of the act."
-"Forgive me father Gernot. I just don’t think that brother Piero could have done this"
Agree to leave at Gernots request.

- Investigate the body with Florian. When Werner comes around, hide and remain hidden.

- Take all the necessary steps to investigate Ferenec. This will involve sneaking into the library at night via the crypt.

- Once you've obtained everything from the library, Mathieu and Rudeger will enter the library and start getting it on. Make sure you approach them. Basically be as positive in this interaction as you can until you get the option to "keep a secret for a secret". This will ensure your break-in to the library goes unnoticed by Gernot.

- Once you've done the cipher code in the Priors house, approach the grave in the cemetery and Andreas will reflect that he should get the Abbots permission to dig it up.

- Approach Gernot (he was in the large garden for me) and pick the following conversation lines;
First off, Lie and say you've been abiding Gernots command.
Then suspect a weapon is buried in the grave. (DON'T PICK THE DIALOGUE THAT MENTIONS FERENEC)
Then say "He could have suffered 2 fatal injuries. All that blood."
And lastly say "It’s obvious to anyone who gives Baron Rothvogel’s body more than a cursory examination."

You should get the dialogue check, allowing you to convince Gernot to dig up the grave. Achievement unlocked.

Hope this helps!

Thank you! I've tried myself on multiple playthroughs, can confirm now that Logician background is required to give the bonus for the persuasion check.

This isn’t a guide, but just something I discovered after trying multiple times to get this. Besides needing to be nice to the abbot, you also need to have chose the logician skill. Hopefully this helps the ext person looking for this.

Can only be obtained in the field of Logic study. After receiving the "Easy as Easy" achievement, examine the grave in the abbey courtyard. Talk to Gernot, who can be found in the Great Garden or the Abbot's House, to allow you to dig a grave. To pass the test, you must be polite to him and not get caught cutting open a body or otherwise disobeying his orders.
