As for raising academics, I went to Wakatsu PR in the Strip Mall except when I was low on cash, in which case I studied in the school library or skipped that day if school was closed. Also, in the run up to exams do the cram studying at night. Also try and stay awake during class and get the questions right. I had the required Academic stat every time, even when I actively tried avoiding increasing it

You get three exams, in May, July and October. I can't confirm it but I recall hearing you need at least Academics level 3 / 5 / 6 to ace each of the exams.

Throughout the school year you’ll come across exam weeks, where instead of spending the week chasing Shadows and building Social Links, you’ll just be putting into practice everything you learned in the school term. There are 4 exam periods you’ll have to contend with: middle of May, middle of July, middle of October and the middle of December.
While you won’t be able to finish top of your class for the May midterms, you can easily achieve that come the finals that take place in July.
In order to finish top of your class, you need to raise your Academics Social Stat to 6, as well as getting all the answers correct in a specific set of exams. If you do that, a few days later you’ll get the results and you’ll be top of the class, and unlock the aptly named ‘Top of the Class’ achievement. Make sure to speak to Mitsuru for your reward too, as she’ll give you a batch of Incense cards, to help boost your (or your teammates’) Persona skills.
